10 TRUE OR FALSE MYTHS ABOUT PREGNANCY

1. You Must Take Special Supplements .... TRUE - experts reccomend taking 0.4mg of folic acid daily as it may protect your baby from spinal cord defects. Always eat your '5-a-day' plus oily fish and other lean protein and high-quality carbs.
2. Peanuts Are out ... FALSE - Government advice is that you should only avoid peanuts is you or an immedate family member has asthma, eczema, hay fever, or a food allergy.
3. You Forget More ... TRUE - Scientists at Australias Uni of New South Wales report that pregnant women undergo memorty problems, for example, finding it harder to remember new phone numbers. Researchers dont know why this happens, but suspect that lack of sleep plays a role
4. You Should Quit Coffee ... FALSE - you can enjoy your brews, but watch the quantity Researchers have found that too much caffine (in tea, coffee coke-cola and chocolate) can increase your risk of miscarriage. Our government recommend maximum 3 mugs of coffee (300mg) a day, but in the US they reccommend a daily allowance of 1.5mugs of coffee (150mg).
5. You Can Double Your Portions ... FALSE - Your body only needs 200 extra calories a day for the growing baby - and only in the last trimester. But that is difficult advice if you have a big appetite from day one. Stay active as possible, keep well hydrated, and eat three meals a day with the odd "treat" in between.
6. Its Safe To Exercise ... TRUE - If you were active before and your pregancy is considered low risk, there is proberly no reason why you cant keep it up. Just be sensible and work within your comfort level without getting dehydrated. Otherwise you can keep running until the end if you feel comfortable with it.
7. Sex is a No-No ... FALSE - Sex is safe in a low risk pregnancy. the baby is well cushioned and no harm will come to it. its thaught that sex can do the baby some good by increasing the pelvic blood flow. Fro higer risk pregnancies (multiple babies, repeated miscarriages or undiagnosed vaginal bleeding) ask your doctor.
8. A Low Bump Means A Boy ... FALSE - The baby determines the shape of your bump. So if the baby moves, your bump will change shape and as the head engages ready for birth, the shape will change again.
9. Morning Sickness Means A Girl ... FALSE - Morning sickness doesnt indicate the babys sex. The confusion could have arisen because women with hyperemesis gravidarum - excessive nausea and vomiting affectiving three in 1000 women - more often carry girls.
10. A Natural Birth Is Best ... FALSE - A safe birth should be the priority. Women who give birth naturally without drugs or instruments, tend to recover faster, and their babies are less sleepy and quicker to learn breastfeeding. But While most women experience no problems giving birth, its important they understand that they might need some intervention to keep them and their babys safe.

Good your thinking about stuff like this. Some girls dive straight into pregnancy without thinking about anything for selfish reasons. Especially women who want children depsite their partners being hesitant.

Another myth about pregnancy: Men find pregnant women very sex. TRUE, many men find pregnant women quite sexy and hot. Though most do not. But be prepared to be hit on a lot while you are pregnant by those men with a pregnant woman fetish. :wink:

Thanks for all this information, many have advice that pregnant women should not drink coffee, so it's proven now that it is safe to drink it during pregnancy. But on the other hand pertaining to eating peanut I've read some researches that during pregnancy you can only avoid eating peanut if you have history in your family or in your husband family on peanut allergy.
