Bleeding after the morning after pill

I took the morning after pill the 3rd day after having unprotected sex. Four days later I started to bleed - about a week before my period was due. I assumed it was an early period except it's quite light compared to usual. It is now 8 days later and about to stop I think. My periods are usually about a week long.

If this was just a side effect of the pills would it last this long? Or is this my real period? I've heard that light periods after the map could mean pregnancy?

The exact same thing happened to me. I took the morinng after pill about a week ago, and now I'm experiencing some light bleeding even though it is several weeks before my period is supposed to start.

I need to start taking oral contraceptives soon. I'm going to, I hope it doesn't make my body act any stranger.

Odds are this is not you period and I`d suggest a home pregnancy test. I feel you waited too long to take the MAP - its ideal within 12-14 hours. I don`t mean to scare you but I was taking it with very very wrong information.

I had sex with my boyfriend on the 8th day of the cycle, the condom spilt and although he wasnt inside me (he was more at the entrance) we decided to be safe and I went and took the morning after pill. This was done 11 hours after sex.
It is now exaclty a week after taking the pill and I am experiencing light, yet constant bleeding.
surely it cannot be a period this early??
Is it a sign of pregnancy?
Is it in relation to the spotting after taking the pill? However I was told that it does not usually occur such a long time after.

I am experiencing the same thing.

I had sex unprotected sex in the early hours of Sunday 15th June,
he did withdrawl before he ejaculated (coitus interruptus), but i then read up about still being able to get pregnant if he pre-came.

I went to the doctors and took the Morning after pill on Monday.
Everything seemed finr, i wasn't sick or anything but then on Friday 20th (4days after taking the pill) i started to bleed yet im not due my period for quite a while.

Reading other girls experiences i am hoping everything will be fine.

same thing happend to me i had protected sex and the comdom split i wasnt to sure if the cum came out inside of me but i took the morning after pill just in case, i had taken it before and no symtoms accured.

I am not due on my period for at least another week and a half but on friday i started to really lightly bleed i figured it could be my period starting early because of the morning after pill.

I read on the internet and it said sometimes you get light blood when pregnant so i took a pregnancy test being very scared on that friday it was negative i was realived it is now monday and the light bleeding has stoped i figured it could of just been a syptom of the morning after pill.

hopefully my next period will be proper and i will start on time.

I taken the morning after pill 5days ago after the condo9m broke i am not supposed to be due on for another 2weeks and when i went the toilet before i found a fair bit of blood.
I hope this is normal, I did get told my period cud be earlier but i didn't expect it to be 2weeks earlier!! Its worrying....

i just took my first dose of plan b last night (27 hours after sex) and i've read practically everything about it and other MAPs...menstrual changes and either heavier or lighter menstrual bleeding is a side effect of MAPs along with
nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, tiredness, headach, breast pain, and diarrhea.

If you get spotting, its normal. Its also normal for you period to be early or late. but if its more than a week late, you could be pregnant

I had sex and the comdom broke, he did not cum inside me... but i was obviously worried about pre cum. I was only able to get the morning after pill 50hours after.

it is a week later and i am having a light period i think. Im going to take a pregnancy test asap after it stops... but im so worried.

The effect of the pill varies from at which time in the month you take it. if you take it before ovulation you are likely two have spotting or bleeding, which could be argues as a period, this stems from hthe reduction in hormones at this time and the lining of your womb shedding to prevent the pregnancy, if you take the pill after ovulation tyou werent going to get pregnant anyway, and the pill doesnt do much except maybe dely your period a bit, (within 5 days of exspectation is classified as norml and not late).

every body is just paranoid!! the pill also has that effect of your hormones lol, cas you have changed your natural cycle. just relax, chances are you not pregant and u will feel you were stressing over nothing. you took the nessersary precaution now you must del, with its side effects...

but saying that... i was paranoid my self only 2 weeks back... 2 week early period, but once i relxed i new it was the pill. just be calm and be prepared. if you periods goes over a week, take a test if two lines then worry,

im 24 and have been pregnant 2 time one i was 8 months and was involved in a car accident that left me in a seriously bad way(lost baby /ended up losing my job on sick so long)
the second i had a abortion as my mentle illness Post traumatic stress/ depresstion after car accident now alot better we are trying for a child
i when on the pill injection for a year took myself off it in nov 2007 period came back nov 2008 were now in feb 2009 no baby yet!

any way i have spent alot of time helpping friends that have asked me questions and here what i found out

morning after pill the same as the 1 st pill you get when you have a abortion. you can experiance bleeding spotting ect
and other symtoms like cramps pains alot like period pains sore boobs ect

I'm in the same situation as most of you.
I took the morning after pill, last monday, and today woke up to find some bleeding, quite heavy bleeding at that. Which worried me because I shouldnt be on my period for at least another 2 weeks!

I read the booklet i was given by my nurse regarding the morning after pill. It states;
- Your period may be different. Most woman will have a normal period at the expected time, but some may have their period later, or earlier than normal. You might also have some irregular bleeding or spotting until your next period. If your period is more than 5 days late, or is unusually light, or unusually heavy, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.

I'm not going to worry, I had a period before I had unprotected sex, and then took the morning after pill, literally, the next morning. Now a week later I have got some "irregular bleeding" I'm just going to take it as it comes. I was also on the contraceptive injection for almost a year, took myself off of it, and then started to have normal periods. There's no chance in hell, fingers crossed, that I'm pregnant. And even so, there are so many options to take from there, if I were to be.

Everyone just needs to calm down, there's definately an answer to everything.
