Who else drives fast?

Postby D.M. » Sun Nov 13, 2005 11:21 am

Today I drove about 50mph in a 25mph area and about 80 in a 35 mph twice. I know it's illeagal, but am I the only person who likes to do this from time to time?

Yeah, but if you checked back on your thread you'd realize some of the possibilities for failure. Tailgating, blah, blah...
Sound off like you've got a pair!

No you're not alone, I'm a bit of a speed demon myself.
It's the double buzz of speed and doing something illegal.

I'll be getting speeding tickets all my life and I am fine with that.
I don't need a man. That's what my car is for; It's good looking, makes me happy, and does what I ask it to do. (JK)

I drive fast when its safe and motorways are clear. I do about 24thousand miles a year most of which are motorway. Sometimes 130mph in early mornings on way to somerset.

For those that drive fast...or try to...please do me a favour dont crash because I get fed up when I have to wait in traffic after some moron has an accident.

Postby beansprout » Sun Dec 11, 2005 3:46 pm

i too like too drive fast sometimes. i would never speed in built up areas though, like near schools etc. i live in the country and so i get to enjoy speeding round the lanes hopefully without putting anyone at risk.

Only idiots speed. Speed kills.

I mean, I am no lane hogger or anything but unexpected things happen and you dont have full control when you are doing a considerable amount of speed.

It isnt cool or fun, it is illegal because its bloody dangerous. If you wanna break the law then go do a bit of shoplifting or something, dont risk peoples lives.

I'm not into speeding myself. I know most of us will do approximately 10 to 15 mph over ocassionally on highways, but to do the speed you're talking about on streets like that, no way hosa and good luck!

Speed doesn't kill. People who don't know how to drive, don't know what their car is capable of and what it can and can't do, people who don't know how to control what their doing, etc kill.

That's amazing Exodus, I did'nt realize someone maybe able to speed so fast on a 35mph road and can still manage to avoid a child dashing right dead smack out in front of them while they're doing 80 if as long they know how to drive, is that what you're saying? Or how about a ball joint breaking loose on your car causing the entire wheel to collaspe while you're speeding killing either you or someone else you think? Just what if a car was to back right out 15 feet in front of you while doing 80mph? I mean according to what you're saying if as long as a person can drive and can handle the capability of their car, it can be avoided right? What if a person changing lanes on a highway cuts dead smack right out in front of you while you're cooking 90 causing you to slam their rear end and causing them to crash? Do you think maybe for just one second if a fatality was to happen in either one of those cases that it might be a speed factor you think? Heck, whadda I know right?

Just wondering, fire away!

Of course it does. It you hit something/someone at a low speed then obviously the effects wont be as bad. Hit someone at 70 and they have no chance.

Its easy to sit back and think you will be ok but someone is killed every day of the year due to bad driving.

If you cant stick to the rules, then you shouldnt be on the road.

I tend to stick pretty much to the limit in 30, 40, 50 limits, for the reasons already said. However, like livehouse, I spend most of my time on the motorways, often commuting between London, Liverpool and Edinburgh, so easily clock up about 25 thousand miles a year. I am a 100mph gal, smack the old cruise control on and I'm away.

It's very common at certain times of the day for the average speed on the motorways to be nearer 90-100mph, and to be honest, it’s the t**** that haven't got a clue that cause the accidents. I totally agree, on the motorways, it's not speed that kills, it's idiots that don't know how to use them.

I have a high powered car, and like to use it 8)

And seeing I've been driving the same way for 15 years with so much as a scratch, I'd say I'm pretty safe!

I'm implying speeding on a highway or main road . . . I'm not talking about going 90mph down a side street or residential area . . .

Also, if your car is going to blow a bearing, drive axle, tire, etc. Its going to, regardless of how fast you are going . . .

So you claim that having a good sense of control on your car doesn't effect skill on driving fast? Yes . . that makes sense. Cause I mean, its not like people in NASCAR or Rally-X's, etc have any talent when it comes to going anywhere between 150-220mph. I'm sure if you ask them, they say when they are going THAT fast, it doesn't take a skill to control  . No matter how fast you are going, if you know how to maintain control and are within reason, things will be fine.
