Thank You Marilyn King !

Postby Lena on Mon Dec 05, 2005 1:02 pm

I grew up poor and never want to be again so for the last few years I have been a fanatic saver . A good way to cut costs is not getting trapped into the clothes buying fetish . Just like when I was a kid I still buy most of my clothes second hand . I do buy new underwear and some clothes at outlet malls but am now buying alot at a second hand shop run by a rich peoples church where the stuff is top quality and barely worn . I guess rich people wud rather jsut go out and buy new clothes the go to the cleaners or get there hands dirty doing the wash themselves . A washing usually has it looking almost new .

Last week we went to a big rummage sale at a rich peoples jewish temple . It was just as good . One lady in her 80's had all these containers that included her daughter's old clothes from probably the 1960's . Everything was pretty traditional ( been wearing that alot lately which for the first time in my life has me dressing with a distinct style rather then a usually clashing mix of different types of clothes ) , in good shape and about my size . For $33 I got 4 dresses , 5 skirts , 3 sweaters , 6 shirts , and 2 blazers ( one even has a crest on it of some private school ) and a ski jacket along with a beautiful wool scarf and about 6 pairs of stockings still in the original packages .Some of the stuff was tailor made , had labels that said " Custom Made by Malady's Tailoring for Marilyn King " I asked the woman if she has any more clothes and she gave me her address . maybe some shoes ? We dropped the stuff off at the cleaners and the bill there wil be about 40 dollars so for 73 dollars I got several hundred dollars worth of clothes . I am so happy .

Thanx for the complient . I'd rather have the money then give it to some big corporation that owns the store and I do alwys buy new underwear .Even I have limits . No one since I was a little girl has ever noticed I'm in second hand clothes either . I am sure when the stuff we got at the temple sale is back from the cleaners I'll look like a heiress instead of a bartender , until at least I talk .

The clothes came back from the cleaners yesterday and mostly turned out all right . The white blazer was a little grey but now looks like a milk chicklet , the blue blazer is real crisp . Although not looking brand new the rest look very good . The only problems were 2 dresses and 3 shirts that shrunk real bad and even 5'3" scrawny me can't fit in . Maybe I can find a 10 year old who want to look retro ? . Also from the 2 pair I've open the pantyhose weren't made with spandex back then so they bag at the knees and ankles making it look like you have the elephant man's disease so they can only be worn with a long skirt and pants .

I was looking at them in the closet and they are beautiful . I have never been able to afford such nice clothes and never really had the taste to coordinate so well . Maybe instead of wearing them I wil just use them as a art work like a painting to look at and be happy .................

I am finnally going to be wearing the clothes above over the next few weeks . I know it sounds goofy but after paying a fortune to have them dry cleaned I let them hang in the closet not wanting to see them get dirty again . I'll be mixing withmy regular clothes , monday may be in a blazer and plaid skirt from the sale and on tuesday in sweats or jeans . Should be interesting ! Especially to look for any differences in how people in general respond to me depending on what i am wearing .. Today to start it off in new clothes , a navy blue crewneck sweater, white shirt , and dark grey wool skirt . Nude pantyhose & my best blue clogs from Europe .Already I feel more sophisticated and mature. Just have to keep my mouth shut so my thick hillbilly twang doesn't come out .............

Yesterday in the sweater and dark grey skirt I felt so mature , sophisticatd ,and confident . It was also nice being dressed up for a change since I am always so informal . But as before I was thinking if I had to dress like this every day for work I wud be spending all my money on clothes .Glad I don't work in a office and the hotel gives us uniforms . It will hopefully change next year if I get a real estae sales license . Better sell alot to pay for the clothes ! Did notice too people were in general nicer then when am in jeans or sweats . Got alot more smiles on the street and everyone from the clerks at the coffe boutique , staff at my gf's library , and the clerks at the stores we went too were nicer . My gf was almost shocked when she looked and saw me like that since on my of days I am usually Ms . Slob . Said I should dress up more often .The only problem was I like to get about 5 wears out of pantyhose but made it to only 2 with the ones yesteray , got runs in the soles form being barefoot at my gfs college library for 2 hours . But that was my sloppiness, hey , gotta be down home me even when I'm dressed up !

Today in a dress from the rummage sale . These clothes go back to the late 60's from what I have seen hems were short . This dress is knee length though , a very light almost tan color brown jumper dress . Am wearing a white turtle neck with it . Acces's include a shark tooth necklace , brown earrings , nude thigh tops ( I wear them more then ph since I used to avoid gynie infections like I used to get alot in the past ) and probably brown pumps . Will be happy to get to work to get into my orthies that ae sinfully comfy. As I sit here tying in just the dress and hose I also feel more mature , sophisticated and confident like yesterday . I'm seetting a good example , although she usually goes to school and work in jeans or sweats my gf left today in a nice sweater and skirt .More tomorrow .

Yesterday also noticed how when you are dressed up people do treat you better . More smiles all over and at the coffee boutique these yuppettes in there dark business suits who wud never even acknowledge me on a average day all said hello . Wow , I am so honored ! Dressing up has also helped me relieve winter boredoom and also anxiety about our buying apartment .

Today in what is a turtleneck dress .Made of virgin wool according the label , lite lite purple with the hem about 2 inches above my knee ( really do wish I had long legs to show off ) pink camisole ( don't want to be itching all day ) and with the same nude thigh tops ( washed them out over night ) as yesterday . Also my in style just below the knee-three inch heel brown boots.

Amazing that even though it can be a pain dressing up does make you feel better about yourself and also has been giving me a feeling of some excitement .The fashion industry must love that feeling among people especialy women since it sells more clothes !. Maybe I should write a self help book called BEAT THE BLUES BY DRESSING UP EVERY DAY ? Both my gf and the personel manager at work ( a metrosexual guy who always judges people on how they look ) complimented me on how nice I looked which was nice to hear . Lite purple like the color of the dress yesterday is a beautiful color , will be keeping my eye out for clothes with that color . Had to stay late at work and after almost 11 hours was a little to tired to switch from my uniform back to the classy street clothes but did . The good feeling from dressing up made it a justifiable cost to pay .

Today another turtle neck mini dress . This one is white and cable knit . Actually looks like along sweater but is indeed a dress . Also nude pantyhose ( it' s too short for thigh tops ) and my brown boots .Between the white dress that is oh so tradiotional with it's cable knit style and nude hose I look just so wholesome !!!! Maybe stop at the meeting of the Young Republicans or instead after work hang out at some sleazy bar in the slums I came up in fooling everyone I am some kinky rich woman lookking for some trouble ? Ofcourse that could get you robbed or killed real easy here ...................

The white cable length mini dress was a big hit . Came in the big door instead of the employee entrance and saw some suits smiling at me as they undressed me in there minds . :D Came off and went back on real easy at the end of my shift . After work we headed to a gay bar to see a old friend who had moved away and was visiting . There among all the women in jeans and sweats was me in that wholesome looking dress the bouncer didn't recognize me at first and started laffing when he figured out it ws me . Asked me if I'm now into retro . Inside I did notice one girl staring at my legs ( at least the short skinny things I have for legs ) and it also made me feel good . :D They can be a pain but short dresses/skirts are fun too.................

Nothing classic today . just jeans a t shirt to go into work then new and more modern clothes for a nice patry later. A ribbed turtleneck thats black and a brown suade mini .

Back to the classic clothes today . Yesterday wore a mini and felt very sporty , loved the way some guys were staring /lusting at me at the coffee boutique and later some other guys were doing the same in the employee cafeteria . Hee hee.

Today a navy blue jumper dress that is tight & short .Also a white turtle neck and off blue pantyhose ( there was a pair of off blue stockings in the box but this dress is too short for them , do have a blue skirt they'll go with ) . I was thinking this was made ( it's tailor made ) for a 17-18 year old girl and must have been very cute on her. For me it's a little different , lol. My gf says I look kinky :o , I laffed and said no , kinky was when a old bf wud have me wear a girl scout dress with nothing on underneath!!!! . The mailman did however look real excited when I signed for a letter this morning. For shoes probably my black boots , it will help show off my legs . Do feel lively in this too .I really could be in the first AUSTIN POWERS movie . :D

Had fun yesterday , went to my gf's colege and while I waited for her to finish studying was on a computer there. Noticed some guy then aother guy looking at my legs . I am such a sex goddess !!!!!!!!! You have to be careful getting up in something short but I din't , sad to say don't think anyone saw me ! Dam !!!!!. Started thinking maybe it's time to go to a club in a mini with no undies and tease away!

More clothes from the rummage sale .Today a navy blue sweater , u-neck , ribbed , and contours to the body , white blouse& pleated grey mini . Maybe thigh tops or if too short pantyhose . Also my black boots .Look cute and innocent ( me ! )

Had fun in the pleated grey mini , really hikes up when you sit down . While waiting at the oil change place did notice most of the guys working there came out to use the soda machine and ask me some question while looking at my legs . The security at work whistled too , that can be obnoxious but I smiled . My friend who is a manger asked why am I dressing up so much .

Today in just jeans and a old t shirt . Tomorrow is my day off o who knows , don't usually dres up on my free days . L.
