speeding tickets

I passed the fuzz today hiding in the road with a speed camera. I was doing 36 in a 30. This is a very fast road anyway so it wasn't dangerous. (no schools etc)

What are my chances of getting a ticket and what are my best chances of getting out of it? I hear that you can ask for proof of calibration for that piece of equipment they have to provide you with it - if it wasn't done that day you cannot be prosicuted. any truth in this or any other ideas to get me out of it? i know speeding is breaking the law but why should i get 3 points and a fine + increased insurance etc for doing 6 mph over a speed limit on a main road? fair enough if i was driving at 95 on a busy motorway - hands up, i would take all i got but i wasn't!

6mph over? Doubtful. Usually cops tend to go for anything 10 and over. They can do 5 over if they really need a ticket, but most won't.

Although the "unofficial guidelines" of 10% plus 3 mph were introduced a few years back, some counties have decided on a "zero tolerance" approach towards speeding, as proven by someone I know; received 3 points for doing 34 in a 30! :roll:

In answer to your question; yes, always ask for a copy of the calibration certificate! You will have a better case to argue if the camera wasnt calibrated; however, it doesnt mean you will be let off the fine for definate! It just means the authorities will have to "review" your case, should you wish to appeal. But if the camera were calibrated that day; get your rent out and accept the 3 points. Sorry.

I believe the authorities have 28 days (or 14, cant remember) to issue the ticket, if you havent hear anything after 28 days; you're okay! :wink:
