British Police - What do you think

Postby Fat_Bunny on Thu Jun 01, 2006 11:48 pm

Not really a debate

Just wondering what people in britain think to the current police force

Are they doing a good job?

What could they do better?

Personally, i think that if their paperwork was cut. They could be out doing their jobs and policing.

Everyones opinion welcome

But NO TROLLS!

Well, i am a PC in TVP and i can tell you without a doubt my colleagues and I are completely fed up with the amount of paperwork we have.

We have a new crime recording system where civilians with no law training crime incidents.

unfortunately they end up criming civil matters, or wrongly criming incidents. IE they crime a robbery and its actually a theft and an assault.
It takes HOURS of work to change the classification or get rid of a job.

Plus, TVP's new idea is to swamp the streets with Police community support officers (who cannot arrest, cannot take statements, dont carry protective equipment, cannot search ppl)

They want PC's to stay in the office and act as "line managers" to the PCSO's

gahhhhhh

yep. paperwork is a plague.
I have remained self employed ever since i left college 25 years ago because I hated beurocracy - but now it has finaly even caught up with me...

according to the new health and safety laws I have to do regular method statements and risk assesments plus fire strategies based on MS's & RA's even if I only work by myself in my own garden shed!!!

unbelievable.

A recent job that I did asked for a full report at the end of it - with the implication that it should be fairly voluminous. so I wrote a cover page and an opening page then attached 15 pages of random text that i got from wikipedia. the report was accepted with thanks, and no-one has mentioned anything, the report exists, its box got ticked so everything is peachy (if anyone took the trouble to read it I seem to remember it was partly about the american war of independence, partly the constitution of Cuba and partly about 'long cat').

the problem is that those who work in offices - can only recognise stuff done on paper as 'real' work. they just cant comprehend that 'actually doing something' might also take some effort.

worse still is the fact that the educational system is now so focused on learning how to do things theoreticaly on paper that whole new generations of box tickers are being groomed even as we speak.
Work like you don't need the money.
Dance like nobody's watching.
Love like you've never been hurt.
and add a bit of text to the end of each post so you seem witty.

I think the Police do their best to do a very difficult job in very difficult circumstances. It must be frustrating for them. I think the hunan rights and 'politically correct' brigaide have made their lives a misery.
I think we all wish it were old fashioned and wholesome like in Dixon of Dock Green (remember that?) when you could clip a youth round the ear without getting done for ABH or child abuse, but it isn't.
There will be bad coppers as in any walk of life, but on the whole I do trust them and I'm glad they're there.

Fairly useless these days... Seem to concentrate on soft targets... Although I understand that Human Rights Act, blah, blah, has probably lead to a lot of this...

I wouldn't want them off the streets though... They are better than nothing...

Sometimes it feels like the Police won't help you and the law won't let you help yourself... Although I understand we can't have mindless mobs on the streets lynching people again...

They're doing a grand job - finest trained police officers in the world. Recent bad publicity has only arisen as they have been forced to act on credible sources, which later turned out to be false. For the few times it's gone wrong - how many times has there been a successful operation/arrest?? Loads is the answer. The only problems arise when the current government forces bureaucracy, red tape (ie paperwork) and a bunch of overpaid dozy civil servants (who moan when they may have to work to 65 like everyone else!!) on the force.

thank you! The media is quick to critise when things go wrong. But never praise when we get it right.

I've been traveled to many countries.

Personally. I think the british police is the best. Streets are very safe at night and when you go to any where you'll find a policeman even at small markets.

They are doing a very good job. and yes the are the best most trained men in the world!

Streets might be safe at night, but I will never forgive the British (London) cops for shooting dead that poor innocent man they so wrongly mistook for a terrorist.

I suppose if the police HADN'T of acted and he had been a terrorist and killed many ppl you wouldn't have forgiven the police either?

It was a no win situation.

The independant police complaints commission and the CPS did not fault individual officers or the police service,
Only health and safety protocols not adhered to.
