From personal experience, and talking to friends.........for MOST normal people (ie. Not celebs), then 10 years is about the biggest gap that can work in the long term. Any more than that and you are getting uncomfortably close to a generation gap (16 years give or take). You will find that your friends wont get on. You will have little in common to talk about. Sex, which many percieve to be a common problem, usually isnt. Once married, sex normally wanes a bit anyway, so dont expect intense passion like when you first met. Lets face it, you dont go into a library and take out the same book every week do you? And expect to be surprised at the ending?
Ideally, I would say and age gap of 0-5 years is the best. 5-10 years can be fine depending. Over ten years and the writings on the wall from day one.
And thats the bottom line, like it or not.
