I learned how to do this when i was a young child, i used to have strong vivid dreams, and night terrors that would upset/scare me and cause me loss of sleep. Between the ages of about 4-6 i became aware, during my dream that i was only dreaming, and although this didnt put me at ease during my dream, i was able to take control of my self and force myself to wake up. This worked for me in some of my most terrifying nightmares. Although i cannot and do not do it anymore, perhaps because i am older and have an understanding of dreams... i don't know??? Still get the odd night terror though, where i wake up screaming
