State funeral for Thatcher?

Postby Ming on Sun Aug 03, 2008 10:29 pm

I consider her Satan in slingbacks and would be greatly in favour of setting the date now. However, there are those that think she's wonderful, so it would be interesting to see how many people think she should have a state funeral.

Judging by your txt-spk you weren't even born when she was in power. If I wanted the opinion of a minor I would ask my eleven year-old.

sorry i wasn't logged in when i posted that comment mangy - oh yes I am well old enough to remember one of the greatest polticians this country has ever seen - Maggie Thatcher. I left this sorry arsed country in 1976 - owing to the crass actions of the then labour gov / Harold Wilson. I came back in 1984 when maggie had sorted out the scum & enabled hard working people to earn a decent living agin.

So don't patronise me with your 'young' comments Mangy Minge. This country is an even worst state now than it was back in 1976 thanks to 'New' labour Bliar / joke Brown et al - & if i was 'younger' again - i would be gone again to another country - anywhere but this sorry place with silly people like you who don't recognise what good work the likes of maggie did for this country. UK was the laughing stock of Europe until she stepped in to the ring

Did I say I was a Labour supporter?

Would you like to discuss this, or do you feel more comfortable with the infantile name-calling?

If achieving greatness is selling off every government owned utility to line the pockets of her cronies and artificially inflate the coffers of the treasury, and engineering a war to boost her own popularity, then by that definition, she is great. I daresay that there are many in Serbia who regard Radovan Karadžić with the same warmth. The point is that there are as many people who, like me, dislike what she stood for as there are ardent supporters. Everyone else who has been granted a State funeral has previously been universally accepted as 'great'.

Pure speculation here, but with your exciting approach to spelling and grammar, right-wing viewpoint, and wit as sharp as a ripe banana, I'm guessing you were a member of HM Armed forces. You may have even made it as far as a junior NCO.

Ah. Someone stuck on 'transmit'. Well, thank you for your valuable contribution to the discussion. You will probably (without justification) be relieved to hear that your keen insights have made a lasting impression, and that no-one could have a higher opinion of Margaret Thatcher than I do.

As I suspected. There is little point in trying to get you to engage in discussion.I am prepared to admit one prejudice. It is against bigotry, which itself is s reaction to fear of the unknown. I don't hate people for the colour of their skin or their beliefs, I reserve my dislike for closed-minded Neanderthals, fascists, and racists. Fortunately, you seem to fulfil all of these criteria.

u can read mangy minge? I don't discuss anything - to repeat myself.

u have no idea what i stand for mangy & u never will.

suffice to say unlike u i am a doer, not a waffler of words like u.

boy - u must be a bundle of fun to have around with such a pathetically self righteous pedantic outlook.

now do one

The prospect of my tax going to pay for Thatcher to have a state funeral makes my blood boil.

What is so special about the mad cow?

She destroyed whole communities leaving a generation of unemployed people in poverty. The 3 million unemployed she created (actually nearer 5 - she kept on fiddling the figures to massage people off the official unemployment figures) were a very necessary part of her plan to destroy the Trade Unions.

Their children still live in the broken communities she created and are now the lawless feral kids whose families have known nothing but poverty, deprivation and futility all their lives.

The only thing I'd like to celebrate when she goes is that the Old Brass Bat is dead.

While Thatcher was in power I despised her and couldn't wait for her to be ousted. However, when I look back she was necessary at the time. The country was on its knees and she sorted us out. The Labour government had ensured Britain was a laughing-stock. The unions were just as power hungry as Thatcher later became. The country was plagued by strikes and productivity was an absolute joke. I remember Scargill swanning around the place in his Jaguar, showing 'support' for his 'brothers' - now there was an arsehole that needed to be crushed! Other world leaders also had utmost respect for her and stopped pushing our country around like they had been under the previous government.

We got the leader we deserved (and needed) at the time. I accept that she got worse as the years went by and felt she could do whatever she liked. For those reasons I don't agree with a state funeral for her. I do believe she was a great leader for the first few years of her premiership though, and I think history will be relatively kind to her.
