When my girlfriend and I talk on the phone, for some reason we do not seem to "click" most of the time. She gets really frustratd that I do not seem to be listening, or communicating on the same level with her. Most of the time she talks a lot and I just listen to what she has to say, then give my response. Sometimes I do tend to be superficial on the phone, or to hold a lot back from her that I would rather discuss personally, and I think she senses this also.
Like today when she called me, she asked me how I was and I said a polite "fine" or "good" or something like that when in fact I was really feeling quite depressed. I think she sensed my facade, but I did not want to tell her how I really felt at that time.
Another thing that happens is that sometimes after she is finished talking, I cannot at that moment think of something meaningful to say, or not what she wants to hear from me. Sometimes I have no clue what she wants to hear from me and she just gets mad. We then end up fighting on the phone.
We do not have as many communication problems in person, and in fact can have some pretty interesting and stimulating conversations together. What gives?
Why do I have trouble opening up to her on the phone?
Is this a common problem with other guys? do you women have a problem talking on the phone and do you men have similar probs?
