Should I say anything to the mother or keep my mouth shut. Just wondered if anyone else has come across this?

I think it depends on what part of the UK you're in. Where I live in the South West, girls mostly wear trousers to school - my daughter does and even though she sometimes wears white long socks no-one sees them apart from she changes in PE. I saw some of the programme Waterloo Road the other day which is set up North and the girls were wearing short skirts and long socks, so maybe the fashion has caught on from there.
