No period

Postby smithy1 on Tue Sep 23, 2008 2:37 pm

HI All

I'm new to this site but have found your messages really helpful. My husband and I are also TTC and I came off the pill (Microgynam) in mid-July and I still have not had a period. Its been 10 weeks. My GP was kind enough to give me a blood test to check hormone leves and it all seems fine but is it really normal not to have a period in so long. I'm so worried and as you can imagine, its all i think about. I'm 29 and we are desperate to have a baby and naively i now know, i thought i would come off the pill and have pretty regular periods. I have been on the pill for 6 years and before that they were always every 27 days. I just dont know what to do now..should i wait a bit longer and then go back to the GP - its just constantly on my mind.

Has anyone else had anything similar?

Hello!!! I totally understand your frustration! I came off Microgynon in August 2006 after being on it without a break for 9 years. I had a period 46 days later, and then 54 days later, and then nothing for 8 months. I saw my GP who said my ovaries were "sleepy" as I had been on the pill for so long.

It is perfectly normal for your body to take upto a year to settle down after coming off the pill, but after not having a period for 8 months, I was eventually referred to the Gynae dept at our local hospital by my GP. A scan showed that my ovaries were polycystic in appearance, and myself and my hubby had numerous other investigations that showed I was not ovulating, and my hubby had very low motility, but good count.

We ended up being started on a drug called Clomid to kick start ovulation, and I fell pregnant after three cycles, and gave birth to my gorgeous son last month.

There is something called Agnus Castus that can regulate your cycles after coming off the pill, a herbal remedy that you can buy from any health food shop. (Google it!)

I would probably give it another month or two, and then get back to your GP. I hope this helps, and keep us informed. Good luck in TTC hon xxxx :bighug:

thank you so much for your email and congratulations on the birth of your son. How lovely!

I have googled agnus castus and am going to pick some up today - hopefully that will help!

thank you again for your advice - i'll give it another few months and see what happens!

Gosh I never knew that tryong for a baby is so hard!! I am so happy for my mate tho who has been trying for 2 years and it has finally happened for her! She is so excited!! I hope it doesn't take me that long!

I was on Microginon for 4 years and I never ever missed a day! I come off mid-pack on 22nd September 08, had aperiod 2 days later which lasted 2 days then had nothing for 3 weeks and had a full on period which lasted 4 days! My God did my body knows it was off the pill, was so painful and uncomfortable! At the same time was very happy when I saw because that meant my periods have regulated how I worked them out to be specially cause I come off mid-pack too!! Anyway I come off my last period on 22nd October and I have had nothing yet yet I found brown spotting yesterday so that could be a sign of ovulation! Anyway hoping not to see a period this weekend which is when I'm due on!! Gonna test the week after if nothing just ot extra sure! All this waiting lark is a nightmare!! NEVER GOING BACK ON THE PILL!! MURDER COMING OFF IT!

By the way I have no signs that I am due a period this weeknd.. last month there were bad cramps!! XX

I have been on contraception since I was 14 - I am now nearly 21.

I have been on microgynon, injection, implant, microgynon and now loestrin.

I went back onto microgynon in November 06 after being on the implant and found it was brilliant for me untill about 4 months ago! I was 9 weeks late, went to and from the doctors, did numerous tests and still nothing...I was told by the doctors it was normal but it doesn't bloody feel that way! :(

My next period was due and I was 5 weeks late....I went to the doctors again and he swapped my pill to loestrin....I have now been on it for just over a month and my periods are all over the place!! It is so frustrating!!!

Me and my boyfriend are going to start trying for a baby in about 6 months and I can just tell that it is going to take us ages and I know it will be all my fault as he already has 2 children to a women he had only known 3 weeks when she fell pregnant! I don't want to feel like a failure but I am determined I WILL get pregnant!!

i've never heard of loestrin, so i don't know the in's and outs' of it, but, have you thought about coming off contraception altogether so that your body can get itself regulated before trying ??

Loestrin has lower oestrogen.

I came off it for about 3 months and have gone back onto the pill but loestrin.....My doctor said they will be scatty for a while until they regulate again.

If I came off the pill now I would probably end up getting pregnant just because I'm not ready just yet! Typical!

Hi,

I'm new to this site and also need some advice! I came off Microgynon in October, I had a normal period 4 weeks later, I then am pretty sure I ovulated two weeks after that but my period did not come and I am now over a week late. I took a test and it was negative, I assumed by getting my period 4 weeks after stopping the pill everything had returned to normal. I am now trying to conceive and with me not getting my period I don't know if I will ovulate when I thought I would originally. Does anyone have any advice as this is stressing me out!!!! :(

Hi Pixie!

Don't worry we are all in the same boat!! I come off the pill mid Sept but unlike you I have been getting my periods. I would recommend having a read through the forum "Helllooo... where is everyone??" it's a forum about different women trying to get pregnant and trust me it will help you! There will be messages in there about women in your sort of situation too and what they did about it.

Also a big advice to you is pls pls try not to stress, when I came off the pill in Sept I was regular as clock work but this month I was a week late because I was stressed about moving etc... as soon as I stopped stressing and knew I wasn't preg after taking 2 preg tests ... I came on! When did u tke your preg test because now you know you're not preg your body will stop thinking it is and will stop having the symptoms of pregnancy! The woman's body is a tricky thing!! xx

HI,

My husband and I want to start trying for a baby around April next year. I have been on microgynon for about 7 years and have read that you should wait for your periods to return properly before trying to concieve, so that you can predict your due date more accurately. Do most people do this or is it fine to start trying as soon as I stop taking tha pill?
