Hi Ringgirl49,
It seems to me you have started on a very interesting journey and I hope it brings you alot of pleasure, its nice to hear of people breaking with convention and doing their own thing.

About the ankle cuffs, it will be difficult to just buy somthing of the shelf that fits even if you measure your ankles you will not know if they will be confortable long term, don't forget your ankles maybe slightly different sizes, like grace I wanted apair of cuffs for my ankles that could stay on all the time and then be chained together at home.

What i did was to make 2 cuffs from copper strip 25mm wide and 4mm thick
then bought 2 brass hings and hasp and stapples (copper is soft and easy to work with it can be soldered to brass with a blow lamp) I made them to fit not too tightly and tried them out, I found that if they drop down low onto the ankle where it starts to get thicker it caused pain on the tendons, after much messing about, cutting, bending, resoldering I found the best size. they fit on the narrow part of my ankle just tight enough not to slip down but not tight enough to cause pain, they are oval in shape and touch my skin all the way around and was constantly aware of them, I found I could wear these all the time even with work boots on while at work. There was a very slight differance in diameter about 2mm,
so if they were on the wrong ankles they both hurt alittle, getting the perfect size is critical if they are to be worn permanently.

After making them perfect for your ankles and wearing them a month or 2, they could them be sent to axmar or sm-factory for them to make an exact copy with your own choice of locking system. Personaly I think a key or bolt is best because I prefer to know somebody is keeping me in them, if they are permanent and cannot be removed ever it kinda takes that away from it, and a sprained and swollen ankle could cause serious problems.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks, Grace. That's exactly the type of information that I was seeking! Since I'm always wearing 7 1/2 to 8 inch high heels and the tops of my ankle bones are about 4 inches above those I hope to have 11 1/2 to 12 inches between my ankle cuff and the floor. If that were the case, I could actually wear a chain up to about 24 inches long before the chain would touch the floor. Not that I think that I will be allowed the luxury of a 24 inch chain between my ankles, but your assistance gives me some sort of reference point. The good news about wearing heels of the height that I do is that I think that by wearing a long skirt I might be able to hide the ankle chain completely when I'm out and about in public. Unless, of course, Hubby decides that short skirts also become an exclusive and permanent part of my wardrobe!

The other lesson is that, even though you have a 19 inch chain, you only take 12 inch steps. That's another thing that I had wondered about. In my mind's eye I could only see the ankle cuffs sawing through the skin on my ankles as I walked. That information might allow me to suggest a longer chain in that my steps would necessarily be shorter than the total length of the chain to avoid that sawing action. And a longer chain would make climbing stairs, getting in and out of automobiles and life in general easier to cope with but still provide a stride (if I can call it that) which would still achieve the level of inconvenience that my Hubby is looking for.

And the idea of wearing a thin sock under the cuffs until my skin hardens up will definitely be helpful. Thanks again!

But correct me if I'm wrong, but your anklets are formed steel rods, are they not? Or are they cuffs? And, in your experience, would cuffs like yours be more comfortable than, say, cuffs that are around two inches or so tall? If you could design a new cuff for yourself (nostalgia aside), what would you wear?

Everyone - Grace'ss information has been a great help! But I'm still interested in anyone else's suggestions or experience. This is an important issue for me and the more information that I can gather and evaluate, the better I may fare in the future.

Thanking you in advance,

ringgirl49
8" heels?--I'm impressed! I can still get around in 4" heels pretty well--5" are a challenge now. I found that the longer chain increased the chance of snagging. The short one was too restrictive for daily chores and such. The 19" seems the best overall for me. 24/7 wear is going to be completely different for you compared to "sessions" wear. My anklets (sounds so much more feminine than shackles!) were made from plain steel, are polished, and are 1/8" thick and about 7/8" high. Each has a small half-loop on the inside--the left one has a post w/ ring on the outside. Jingles softly when I move about--love it! Each one was shaped exactly to "it's" ankle, and are a slightly different size. And yes, I have calluses and some scarring underneath them. But I can't imagine life without them.

jack and grace -

Thanks for the additional information. Although it's logical, I never thought about my ankles being slightly different sizes and shapes! So it appears that custom anklets (NOT shackles, right grace?) are the way to go. And I agree with jack that once the size and shape is finalized, wearing the "prototype" anklets for a month or more might be a good idea. I just hope that Hubby agrees! Because once they're on me, I'm certain that they won't be coming off so I would like them to be as comfortable as possible before they become a part of me. The other advantage of this prototyping system would be that I could experiment with different length chains between the anklets so that I might at least be able to recommend the final length even though Hubby will make the final choice.

And I noticed that you both wear a cuff style anklet as opposed to the bar stock "Eternity Collar" style anklets. Again, that makes sense to me as a method of distributing the stress of a connecting chain on the ankle should a step become a bit too long.

Further, you both recommend that the anklets be close fitting enough that they maintain constant but light contact with the skin around the smallest part of my ankle at all times. As I'm very afraid that the anklets might drop down over my tendon and cause all sorts of skin problems that advice also makes sense.

I expect that anything sent to Axsmar for custom work would be of high quality and wholly satisfactory. But it will also be VERY expensive. Does anyone have any recommendations other than Axsmar? As I quite probably will be wearing these baubles for the rest of my life the actual expense is a consideration but not an over riding one. These babies will have to be RIGHT!

Thanks again for the input! But I have to admit that I'm not looking forward to building callouses and scar tissue under Hubby's latest toys.

And grace -

I have to admit to being a bit of a cheater in the high heel department. Even though I have to wear 8 inch heels as my daily footwear, they're not "pure" 8 inch heels as they usually have about a 4 inch platform under the toes. Without a platform I, too, have trouble with heels much over about 4 1/2 inches. And although I can wear 5 inch heels, can't walk more than a couple of blocks in them at one time. While I might be able to wear them to dinner, a taxi would definitely be in order.

And although I know that this is off topic, have you ever spent any time in ballet heels? I have a pair that we have toyed with but Hubby is making noises about me becoming MUCH more familiar with that style of foot wear. Maybe I need to start a string on that subject.

Hi Ringgirl
Glad the info was of help, Are these anklets going to be made permanent along with the chain so you can not get them off at all ever? it seems like quite a drastic step to take, there could be all sorts of reasons why you would need to remove them, if they are a close fit to you ankle then it would very difficult to cut them.
Just hope you thought it through.
How will your family react to seeing you like this?
Jack.

Re: Permanent ankle chains

Postby ringgirl49 » Wed Mar 24, 2010 4:20 pm

jack -

One of the most electrifying things about being married to the man that I am is that I'm always kept guessing. I never know what he has planned, either for me or for any given weekend or evening. He frequently tells me that this or that will be hapening to me, has me research a topic to death (such as this topic) and then nothing happens. But sometimes it does. Other times what he does to/for me is a total surprise (as with my nose hardware). And that's probably part of the attraction.

In the past he has threatened to put a solid bar between permanent ankle cuffs but that never happened. But when he threatened to lock my feet into pony boots, well, I ended up wearing pony boots exclusively for over a year (until the steel pony shoes wore down to nothing). He threatened to keep me in a chastity belt but it never happened. He also threatened to train me to be able to handle a reverse prayer position and I have had to master it. And there have been other things that either were done to me or forgotten about as the spirit moved him. I just never know what will be next!

So we've talked over the implications of having a permanent chain between my ankles as opposed to a removable one and, as you ca guess, all sort of things have come up in discussion concerning daily life if my ankles are attached together permanently. Much would depend upon the length of the chain. But no matter what the length, my life would definitely change. Of course pants would become a thing of the past for me (barring velcro modifications) as would any sort of rapid walkng. If I'm made to wear short skirts as opposed to long ones, I'm certian that the number of questions asked of me will increase several fold. And if the length of the chain is too short, even stairs could become a problem as they are for penney-x. Lots of variables but, thanks to you and grace, fewer questions.

As far as my family is concerned, I don't think that anything would surprise or phase them at this point. I have a purple pony tail down to my knees, the sides of my head are shaved and I have a quite pronounced permanent lisp because of the steel stuck through my tongue. My mouth is partially obscured by titanium rings, my nose had a bar sticking through it and my ears have more ear rings than does a jewelry store. And as I normally wear rather heavy jewelry anyway and they've already seen me wearing various ankle rings in the past, a simple chain between my legs probably wouldn't elicit a very great response.

:) Hello everyone!

I am glad that i find that forum!

I have trought before that i am very rare person because i have very strong need to feel my limits in real... Real limits like unbreakable steel restraints, cuffs, shackles can do.
To me wearing steel restraints is same like keep ring in finger some another, "normal" person. That how i show my loving to person who locked me in.

I live over 3 years in relationship where i am every moment restrained/chained somehow, we have own rules in life: he tread and handling me like maximum security prisoner, with respect but same time he is my tender lover who take care all my needs.

When we started our relationship we make very clear rules: If i am not somekind restrained or secured that relation is over.

We living "normal" life... we worked together in our homeoffice, we going outdoors and shopping together... we have social life too with "normal" peoples, some of they understant our lifestyle very good... some dont...

In normally i wear long skirts all time, summer and winter, those skirts hide well my legirons and waist/crotchchain (crotchchain keeps hobblechain up to ground), we dont have any reason to shock peoples.
To neighbours i was "that strange woman in long skirts"

Our rules says also that my hands need to be restrained when i am not secured in chains or behind locks, so i have nice coats and jackets who sidepocket can go handcuff chain in my waistchain trought to pocket inside, that way i can keep my cuffed hand in pockets and anyone cant notice that. We have many variations restraint me.

I sleeping in the chains, take shower in chained... in every moments and i love it!

I have another things too how i show my loving, i wear tighlacing corset who can only he take off and steel collar (SM-Factory) , that how i feel her love in every breathe and swallows...

:) heh... i write allmost novel (in my bad english), but i am very happy that i find peoples (i hope some women too) who understand me even least...

Thank You

I forget that: Because i have very good experience in legcuffs and other restraints i am sure that i want permanent anklets with hobble chain and i dont see reason why it cant to be permanent. When that happen i want somekind cuffs in my wrist too but chain between those need to be lockable, i want that i can dress in normally way.
I think also cuffs in my arm...up to ellbow, they can be permanent too.

I have lot of dreams and plan to my future life...

I understand your decision to live as you do and applaud your courage to do so! I, too, have given my physical self to my loved one and have enjoyed life since then. I frequently go out in public wearing some sort of restraint. But in my case my general appearance usually overshadows other folks' realization that I'm restrained!

Niceinmate, Captive Girl -

I forgot to ask the important question. How long is the chain between your ankle cuffs? And how long would you want it to be if it was permanently attached to your ankles?

Anklecuffs what i normally use in daytime chain lenght is 16", but because i use waistchain and crotch/connectorchain who keeps hobble chain in high my step lenght is maybe 13"-14", i am happy with that.
With cuffs i wear usually leather liners/bracelet who comes tight under cuffs, they protect my ankleskin and bones in chafe. Also tight boots, real leather, gives good protect.
If i wear permanent cuffs... anklets they must be tight fitting who prevent that chafes, i am little worry how i can keep my skin healthy under cuff.... Then i cant use my liners and boots anymore.

I also like dress clothess who confine me, that style is strange in nowadays but i like it and that in away gives me reason why i move and act little different way.
When i dress long hobble skirt is very clear that i walk slow and short steps, anyone cant know that i wear chains under my skirt and if people notice that i am tight lacer... that gives reason to act in unusual :) Tight lacers is weird people... :)

I do my best all time to hiding my other restraints too, i dont have any reason to shock people, i am not anykind performer.
OK...peoples watch me but my opinion is that when peoples see me, they look once but thats it.... if i act like that is my normal routine, maybe they think that i have somekind problem with my mobility... who knows.

Anyway...I dont ever go out without my escorter/partner.
He is very pleasant and proud all my sacrifice what i do to showing my love to her.

Sorry again my bad english :(

While you try not to shock the public by displaying your "hobbies", my Hubby's outlook is just the opposite. He wants me to be noticed, seen and sometimes I think even stared at. At first I thought that he just wanted me to feel badly about my appearance. But later I came to know that he is proud to be seen with me and I love him for that. And I discovered that I actually LIKE to be the center of attention!

And thanks for the information on the length of your hobble chain. My Hubbie is still talking about having me fitted with permanent ankle chains and any info that I can get now will probably save me a LOT of grief should he ever take me back to the machine shop and make good on his threat of having me hobbled for life. I really don't think that i want a chain any shorter than yours. It seems to me that anything less than a 14 inch stride would REALLY slow me down!

I, too, worry about the chaffing once the cuffs are attached. In fact, I think that I'm more afraid of the chaffing than I am of having a permanently shortened stride.

If you get your ankles permanently chained, will your waist chain and crotch connector chain be made permanent as well?

I think that waistchain cant be permanent because thatway i cant dress my tube and corsets anymore... i working a lot that i have waistline like now and that process go on.

If/when i get permanent anklechain i want continue waistchain and crotch/connectorchains use because that makes my life littlebit easier. Also that lockable, tight chain in my smaller part in my waist prevent that i cant take of or loosen my corset.

Maybe that long chain can be permanent part in my hobblechain... weld middle in hobblechain... i hate big, ugly locks... thatway i need all times use waistchain, or that long chain can use to locking me somewhere (shower, bedroom, where ever...), that is nice solution.

Corsets and tight lacing lifestyle is my own choise likewise my life in chains and confining clothing use. Nobody force me life like that, that is my way show to my partner/lover how much i love her.

niceinmate - I like the idea of your waist chain and its connector chain to your hobble chain. Although I hadn't thought of it before, I really didn't see a need for such a setup because I'm only allowed wear platform shoes with 8 inch heels. Since my ankles where the anklets would be permanently welded on me is about 4 inches above the heels of my shoes I figured that I could carry a chain that was as long as 24 inches in between my legs and the chain would never drag. But if I'm ever permitted to get off of these stilts (and that very well could be never as I've already been perched up on them for three years) I can see where a chain as short as 9 inches would drag along behind me, making noise and snagging on everything that I step over. A connector chain would not only keep that from happening, but would also relieve some of the weight of the chain from what I'm sure will be my poor, sore ankles. I think that I can convince my Hubby to include the connector using your idea about the chain being able to be used as a tether for other activities. And I agree that the chains should be connected by either a ring or a weld for nothing else than the sake of appearances

I have worn corsets off and on for some time so I understand your thoughts about having the waist chain removable. I like corsets but have a devil of a time putting them on by myself and getting them tightened up. I admire your tight lacing decision and wish I could do the same.

niceinmate -

I need to ask you another couple of questions about your waist chain connector. How do you handle the situation that occurs when you sit down in a public place? Don't both your ankle chain and the connector chain come crashing to the floor? Or do you grab them somehow and lower them quietly?

And when you sit, your skirt hem will rise. You take such care not to offend the sensibilities of those around you. How do you protect those sensibilities when you are sitting with a pile of chain between your feet and your anklets exposed? Or is that the one situation where you can't keep everything a secret?

I'm supposed to present my report on permanent ankle chains soon so I guess my Hubby will be making a decision about whether or not I'll be dealing with these issues for the rest of my life. I'm still more than a bit frightened about becoming permanently hobbled. And then there's the issue of how long the chain between my feet might end up being. From what I can tell, a couple of inches difference in length in either direction will make a BIG difference in the degree to which my world would change. I just hope that, if the time comes to permanently shorten my stride, that he errs on the long side and not the short!
