Knowing how to properly care for your clothing will not only save you money, but it will also ensure they are looking like new each time you wear them. This article will teach you the importance of using hangers for all your suits and jackets.

Hi all,

If any of you are contemplating dying your blonde hair brown, don't do it! Unless you see a hairdresser who really knows what they're talkin about. I did this 6 months ago and am now sitting here with auburn browny hair which has made me miserable for the last 6 motnhs as it's not what I wanted at all. My hairdresser (not the 1st hairdresser who completely ruined my hair!) has told me I have to let it grow out and keep washing it but it's heading towards streaky ginger which is not a good look. but another hairdresser has said she can strip it, put a toner on it and put a dye over the top. Altho she said she can't guarantee for sure it'll end up nice as she'll have to see what it turns out like. I'm a bit nervous to go for this option as I might end up ruining my hair more.

Has anyone had their hair stripped and put toner on it and it ends up ok? Will the new dye fade and an orange colour shine thru?

Re: How To go Dark to Blonde!!

Postby seriouslyneedhelp » Sun Mar 29, 2009 3:35 pm

Hi, i was hoping you could help me, i've had the same hairdresser for the last 15 years and had blonde highlights for the last 10 years, on Thursday she did something new (a full blonde tint and white highlights on top) the result being orange roots (where my previous naturally dark parts were) and very bright hair, she said it was supposed to look like that!!! i got her back the next day where she put more bleach on my orange parts-the result old lady nicotine stained 3inch hair at the top and gwen stefani white everywhere else it looks awful i can't leave the house i'm so ashamed. i've asked her to fix it and she says i need to wait a few weeks for the root to grow until she can put darker lowlights through it (i'm worried all my hairs will be damaged-suprisingly it is very soft and in good condition) and also my dark hair growing out against the contrasting colour is going to look too awful to even imagine. i know to get it brown is achievable but i still want blonde hair, but i can't go out with hair like this, would you please help me, do i really need to wait 4 weeks? can i do something myself? can i tell her what to do? as this is not her hair she doesn't seem to be taking this seriously, but i will do anything, i am so self concious and crying, i can't even look in the mirror-the top part is nicotine yellow, then brassy then white then my normal blonde highlights! please help i can't afford to go to a salon, i've already paid her this week!

If you want to do it the cheap way by going it yourself then listen up!!
- buy a bleach porixide from your local chemist (e.g B blonde)
- if your not sure what your hair will turn out like then do a stran test. by mixing up the colour and snipping a tiny part of your hair and applying the bleach to it. leave it for 45 minites and check results. leave longer if still dark. once the stran is lifted to a blondy brassy colour then wash the stran. to make sure that your har wont break try and pull the hair apart and you will see if it snaps. to get rid of the brassy yellow effect buy a normal blonde hair dye and apply after this will treat your hair aswell. If your hair is still brassy and yellow then apply a 99p toner from the chemist. This should be an ash blonde as it has violet in it and will knock out any brassy effects. PLEASE NOTE TRY NOT TO GET THE BLEACH ON YOUR SKIN AS IT WILL BURN A LITTLE!!!!

Don't dye your hair red first....the first time I ever tried to go blonde I had died my hair red months before. well lets just say bad choice on my part. very bad.

I ended up with pink hair.

anyways, i just had my hair done yesterday to blonde, I have dark brown hair and they had to strip the colour from it first with bleach, then they dyed it the blonde it turned out well.

mind you the bleaching was not a happy time, painful is an understatment, but it wokred and now my hair is fine. They put a serum in it after to soften it. and now Im putting that same serum in it along with conditioner, and my hair is silky smooth the day after it was done.

good luck.

So sorry to hear about your exp at the hairdresser. A very similar thing happened to me in 1992. I was left with burnt orange roots and very bright white hair. I returned to the hairdresser (well known salon) where they put in lots of bleach highlights (peroxide in those days) to get rid of orange. I was horrified to find all my hair completely white and got upset. The girl did not get advice on what to do next but put in some lowlights which, when my hair was dry, became pink. I felt desperate and had been in salon for hours. All I wanted was to be able to walk down the road and not be noticed! The manager got involved when I burst into tears. Had bleached highlights again to correct problem but pink tinge in certain light. Had to go back regularly for lowlights because all the bleach meant root problem. YOU MUST GO BACK AND DEMAND HELP WITH THIS. Perhaps another hairdresser might give you advice, one of the bigger groups that have colourists for instance. Ash toners are very good for dealing with yellow, use sparingly at first as your hair might be very porous and you'll end up grey. Just wash it in and rinse out the first time! Low lights will help, it's finding the right shade. Your hairdresser might not be the best person to do this! I feel so sorry for you because I remember how I felt. I actually took part in a tv programme that had a slot about hair disasters, it's more common than we think! Good Luck!

Think of the roots my dear, the roots.
Getting old isn't so bad when you consider the alternative

Marby, Just go all blonde! You will love it. Blonde, your stilettos, and an above knee skirt is more efective than a dating sevice. Read the recent threads and you see several gals that got good husbands. I did. If you aren't in the man market do blonde anyway and enjoy life. Linda
