I thought this thread had run it's course, but it seems that people are still finding it when looking through.
At the moment I am wearing nappies almost constantly, I usually only wear them at night due to urinary incontinence,
Normally I use a shieth and legbag system during the daytime, but after 6 years of constant wearing the legbag and the little strap that hold the tube in place, The skin on my legs has become very irritated and becomes very red and itchy after only a short time using the legbags.
So I am wearing disposable nappies nearly all the time at the moment, This of couse is giving my skin elsewhere a very hard time and I'm fighting skin rashes all the time.
I occasionally wear terry cloth nappies to bed so that I can cover the affected skin in cream to try and ease the rash and still have the bed protected.
I'm almost sure that Diabetes is the reason that my nightime urine output has recently greatly increased, leading to some very wet and soggy mornings.
I have discussed this with both my continence nurse and the G.P. practice nurse at the surgery I attend.
The Nurse at the Doctors says that my bloods and urine tests are fine and that I'm managing my diet and weight fine, but the incontinence is often due to having Diabetes. It's just one of it's many effects.
The continence nurse has also checked my urine paying partcular attension to kidney function and the possibility of any infections and I'm clear in that area. Her main concern is that I am wearing nappies all the time and it's causing skin damage.
What the final answer to this problem no one seems quite sure at the moment and I'm still trying to stay active and carry on life as normal.
I still like wearing nappies, I really have to, as I'm stuck with them, but I still get the feeling of safety and security when I'm wearing them, Yes I have had a few leaky wet days and had wet trousers in rather unappropiate places also wet the bed a few times, but it's all part of living with urinary incontinence.
