Photographers

Postby LightRibena » Wed Jan 04, 2012 1:51 pm

I'm planning my wedding for October. We don't have much of a budget, at all, but I would really like someone to do some creative photography on the day. I want the Ceremony and the family pictures afterwards mainly done. I also only want the image CD so that I can build my own album.

I found a young girl who, like myself, is an amateur photographer. Is it worth the risk? Or should I try to find a well seasoned photographer for the couple hours I'd need them?
I like to tell people I have the heart of a small boy. Then I say it's in a jar on my desk.

It is completely up to your mind.
But I think you'd better choose a wedding dress which you like first. According to the theme you prepare to held.

I'm not sure what the wedding dress (which I have already bought) has to do with the photography.

I think maybe I should she if this girl has any other work she can show me.

That is true, but I know from experience, photographing people you don't really know is a whole other board game.

Hi, If your in Essex, anywhere near Saffron Walden I`d be happy to help out on a second shooter/casual shot kinda basis.
I`ve got some samples from the four weddings I did in mid 2010 and late 2011.
As for trusting your day to a friend just ask her for some portfolio shots, ask what equipment she has, (I`ve shot weddings with Sony A350/380/580 and now have a brand new 24 mp Sony A77.)
Sit down with her and arrange an engagement shoot, a relaxed affair at a local venue or try to get access to the church or registry office and grounds and try and do a mini run thru of what you envisage and look over the results. If your not happy then say so and look elsewhere.
It`s a sad fact of our current economic climate that the photography/photographer is the last thing to be considered and the first to be cut back on.
It`s a bit of a lottery how things might turn out. You could get the shots to make a great album and feature pics for your home. Theres lots of graduates, keen amateurs who are very good and who might help out in exchange for additions to their own portfolio`s.
All you need to offer is refreshments on the day.
If your very happy then at some stage just put some money in an envelope and give them some amount of payment for the time they gave up for you both.
But dont go into any agreement thinking its your day and theyre your photographs because the photographer owns copyright.
Good luck for your day, I know it can be very stressful if things dont go quite as planned, things happen, but hopefully you`ll both have a day to really remember for all the right reasons and get to put together an album of great memories.

depends on how important the photos are - use a Pro and you will get some great shots, experience shows and also they should have all the correct gear and backup kit - and know how NOT to take over the day and ensure everything goes smoothly
pros can make a mistake, but they should have insurance for that ...

or risk an amateur and you may still get good results, if they are any good at portraits, groups etc and composition and know how to capture the emotion of the day

I have taken quite a few as an amateur for friends and family - but they all knew the risk, and also liked my photography
But I also had the kit , backup camera , and low light lens - in the days of film

so lots to consider when choosing
