Else if not, and if I like the guy, we could become friends. Often I will hang out with these guys, but even after I've made it clear that it's just friendship, they often still try it on, even months or years later.
Do other girls have this experience and how do they handle it? I'm too polite to guys and i think that's the problem

Some would accept, some would not. There really is more to life and social interraction than the contents of someone's pants.

generally speaking men do not want to be friends with women, only friends with benefits. you may have guy friends who hang around you and dont come on to you, but that is most likely because they are shy, or not good with girls. if you offered any of your guy friends a blowjob, they wouldnt hesitate. dont kid yourself that they would.
i am 31 and i have NEVER intentionally spent time with a woman that i didnt want to screw, with perhaps family being the only exception to this.
if you want to make it clear to a guy you dont want to have sex with him, tell him. if hes hanging around hes after your pants.
