Re: Side Effects After Stopping cerazette

I looked on the internet for side effects of this pill after turning into a complete emotional wreck over the last month. A week after starting to take it, I bled for a week (starting the day before my wedding.... grrrrr) and tonight got so angry at (something really insignificant) that I smashed up the remote for the tv. This has really scared me - I'm usually a calm & rational person. I'm not taking any more of these horrors and just hope I return to normal soon! I've had no other side effects like bloating, weight gain etc, but believe me the mood swings are enough!

I'm 15 and was recommended Cerazette by my GP as i have very heavy and painful periods. Anyway, I started taking cerazette, I was on it for roughly 2 months (stopped half way through my second pack) and had no period at all, was over emotional and generally hated everyone and everything and my interest in food completely went which is an issue as I'm extremely organised usually and like my periods to come each months etc. It's been nearly 2 months, no period, everything is so tender, i'm emotional, bloated and to be honest quite worried. How long will I feel like this? :(

I haven't had a period yet and didn't really have one while i was on it. I have a constant headache, i can't stop peeing, i am tired & lethargic, i am so sensitive & tearful, i am also feel i am putting weight on. I have cried loads, and tonight i completely flipped, i was angry upset & shaking. Its just out of character for me. What the hell is wrong with me?! Is this normal or should i go and see my doctor? How long will this last? How long before i get pregnant? Can anyone help? I am really suffering :-(

I AM SUFFERING THE SAME THING AND WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON, DONT PREGNANCY TESTS AND ALL BEEN NEGATIVE BUT COULD I STILL BE PREGNANT. NEED HELP. EMMA

I'm glad I've found this thread and hope someone can help. Ive been on Cerazette for 3 years and have had no periods in this time.
Suddenly, 5 weeks ago, I started bleeding for no reason and have done so on and off now every other day.
I went to see my nurse who didn't know what to do and I'm now booked to see my GP. I'm thinking about coming off this pill.
Last night, I started bleeding again, very heavily, to the point where it has worried me. I have stomach cramps. I can't ever remember my periods being this heavy and I'm getting medium to large clots. I haven't missed a pill, I'm not pregnant....is this normal?

Hi I have come off cerazette about 2 and a bit weeks ago, i had really bad period pains last week and was convinced my period would start but no bleeding, now I've just got pain really low down and have been really tired and emotional and irational at times, I want to try for a baby and I have no idea when is safe to start trying after all the sites I've been on, some people have said to wait until after my first period, but what happens if it doesn't come on? also I have heard people saying you should wait 6 months otherwise its not safe for the baby. I dont understand what the pains were/ are if theres no bleeding, Iv'e taken a pregnancy test-but came back negative. I've never had that before I came on this pill, I used to get pain a couple of days before and then start bleeding, but this time nothing! Is this normal? It's been frustrating not knowing whats going on or who to talk to.

Hi i am 24, i stopped taking the pill for two weeks last year and fell pregnant. It was ectopic and didnt have a good time of it. I had been taking Cerazette for about 4 years. i started back on Cerazette after the Op, come off recently and feel sick, headache, swollen belly and sore boobs. never had that before so feels a bit strange. Hoping to fall pregnant soon, then can enjoy 9months of it :-) glad i know now it is rather normal!

Hi everybody,
I wanted to share my experience too. I'm 28 and I was using Yasmin for more than a year, I was completely fine except for the blood preasure was a little high. I went to the MP and a nurse told me I should change to cerazette because of my family medical history and the bp, I got a 3 months trial treatment on october 2011... I started with the pill just about to have my period that month and in the begining I had really bad headaches and after a small walk I was feeling really tired and suffocated, but the nurse told me it was completely normal because my body was adapting to the pill. I didn't have period during the treatment and my boyfriend and I decided to come off almost 5 weeks ago (on 16-Jan-2012) because the headaches were increasing and my mood was completely out of control! I still don't have my period back, I have this brownish liquid coming out irregularly since I left the pill and I'm feeling stomach pain, I gain weight and all the symptoms many of you already described... I'm a bit worried but after read all your comments, I'm feeling a kind of relief, I'll do a visit to my GP as soon as I can and I'll do a pregnancy test just to be sure... Thank you for all your comments!

Re: Side Effects After Stopping cerazette

Postby kln » Fri Mar 30, 2012 4:11 pm

I have had a really bad time on Cerazette: mood swings, teary, weight gain, hair thinning, terrible skin etc - also no periods at all after the first 2 months. After 10 months I decided to come off of it because the side-effects were awful and I didn't want to do it to my body any more. I have been off it a week with terrible stomach pains particularly in my overies and no sign of a period. I feel really bloated and quite nausious although emotionally a little better. I am desperate for my body to go back to normal asap, does anyone know anything that helps? I am very angry that there is no warning about these side-effects (on and off the pill) as I would NEVER have agreed to take it had I known.

Hope people feel better soon.

I'm so glad I found this site!
I started btaking cerazette mid jan after visiting the doctor with heavy periods I'm 33 and they have got considerably worse over the years, never needed contraception as hubby had the snip 11 years ago but having split with my husband in jan thought it a good idea to take something having started seeing someone. 3rd of the way through pack 3 my boobs were extra sensitive, my relationship ended with other person when my husband and I decided to give our marriage of 13 years another go In march. I never missed a pill and was staying on it but half way through pack 4 boobs were getting more sore and weight gain so I came off it and now I have gained more weight, boobs even more sore mood swings emotional, very nauseous and god I'm tired!! Have taken a pregnancy test 3 times all negative through the weeks. I get mild cramps but still no bleeding my last period was end of January where I started taking the pill on the first day. I did think I would bleed few days of not taking it but nothing, ive been going out of my mind if it was eptopic pregnancy i had or p.test not picking it up however it's good to know it's normal and can relax now and hope my body returns to it's slim self in a few weeks!! Thank you ladies for sharing your experiences.

Re: Side Effects After Stopping cerazette

Postby SoozUK » Tue May 29, 2012 11:12 am

You can't imagine my relief at finding this thread on Google! I was on various combined-type pills since I was 17, eventually having to come off for 6 months 2 years ago because they were causing almost constant breast tenderness. I was put on a mini pill, Cerazette, which improved things no end and I had 2 years of no trouble at all on the pill. I split with my boyfriend 6 weeks ago and stopped taking the pill having had no real periods for over a year. After 5 days of not taking Cerazette I had a period that was virtually pain free and fairly light and I figured things were getting back to normal. 2 weeks later I started getting breast tenderness which has got steadily worse for over 3 weeks now and I can barely wear a bra it's so painful, they feel bruised. I haven't had another period and have no abdominal pain although I am slightly off my food and have been getting a bit of nausea now and then. My symptoms are thankfully a lot less serious than a lot of women on this forum I have to say, I really feel for all of you.

The weirdest symptom of all for me personally is my weight. I have never gained weight due to being on the pill and have always found it way too easy to lose. I spent most of my teenage and adult life eating whatever I liked and often MORE than I really wanted to keep my weight up...if I slack off with eating I can easily lose 10lb in a fortnight and I look really skinny. I have always prided myself on a really flat stomach - if I eat a massive meal at night, the food-baby is completely gone by the morning. Since coming off Cerazette I am constantly bloated, something I have never suffered from before. Being off my food (due to coming off the pill but probably also due to my break-up with my long-term boyfriend) has always meant in the past I'd lose a substantial amount of weight but I've only lost 2lb in 6 weeks and I have a balloon-belly! I haven't taken a pregnancy test as I took the pill correctly and 5 days after coming off it had a bleed, but I sure LOOK pregnant if I don't hold my stomach in! Anyway, lament over....it would be great if people who had terrible symptoms could come back here and tell us when their bodies started to look and feel normal again. Coz it's bikini season, ya know?

Just as an update, I got my period on Wednesday night and it's a NIGHTMARE one, worse than I got before I ever went on the pill. I also still have sore boobs and my stomach hasn't gone down yet. I will update again when my period has stopped for a week to see if the coming-off-Cerazette symptoms have gone away.
