Ive had my naval piereced for about 5 years now and I want to get rid of it. What Im afraid of is that when I take it out, is there a possibility it will bleed? Is there a possibility it could turn into an abcess? Does it heal easily? Ive been googling for hours and days and havent found an answer to my question and then I found this forum. I hope someone will help me with some advice. Im scared of it getting infected or something when I take it out and then Ill have to go to the doctor which Im trying to avoid. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

I got my belly button pierce twice. The first time I was 16 and it was not done by a professional, a medical student. He did not pierce it very deep and a small hoop fit in it. I have a bf that did not like it when I was 20 that did not like it so I took it out and let it heal. I had a small red dot scare. Not to bad, but I decided to get it pierced again a year later to cover the old scare. I went to a piercer and they did the classic deep curved look. It took months to heal. It swelled up so bad, I had to put a larger bar in it to give it room to heal. They only thing that helped it heal was bactine and it worked very well. They don't recommend you to use it though now. I found out now that most of my problems were related to metal allergies. I can't put silver in my ears at all. So, when I got pregnant at 24, I took out my ring again and let it totally heal up. It took a few months and I could probably still put a rod through it. The hole never really completely healed shut and I am almost 30 now. You can take your ring out and let it heal up. You should not have any problems. I had a little irritation, but it quickly went away.

As for all of you teenager wanting to get your belly button pierced. If I could go back and do it all over again, I would of never done it.During my pregnancy the skin stretched so badly that I can never wear a bikini again. It looks horrible. The pierced area droops and hangs and my pregnancy caused stretch marks just around the piercing. I am reading on forums that the only way to get rid of this with the most minimal scaring is a complete tummy tuck and that it is very hard to reconstruct the belly button without additional scaring. So something stupid I did when I was 16 that cost 40 bucks will be with me for the rest of my life or cost over 10 grand to fix and I will still have scaring.

I also want to mention a friend of mine got her nipple pierced. This is a bad idea also because you may not be able to breastfeed your children later in life. No one educated her about this before she had it done.

Re: Belly Button Piercing Scar

Postby neeeen » Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:06 am

hey everyone.

I got my belly button pierced 4 years ago on my 16th birthday. At first it was sore, and it did get infected (pretty much the same way all the 14 year olds on here were complaining about puss and scabs and swelling) I remember the woman who did my piercing told/warned me that it wasn't going to look pretty while it was healing.(I got mine done at a professional piercing parlor that was so clean you could literally eat off the floor) Also, when you first get it pierced, you are suppose to get a ring, because it's a whole lot easier to clean, plus you have to move the ring around so it can heal. I was told I could change it to a barbell in 6 months, but I waited till it was completely healed. When it was infected, I put neosporin on it and it worked magic for me. I would put it around the piercing and on the ring and turn my ring so it could get inside the hole. Once it healed I changed it to a barbell, and it never go infected again. I have no redness around the hole or anything to worry about. I looks like it never got infected, or was ever swollen! (Knock on wood).

I've been debating for a while if I should take it out because sometimes when my ring would get caught on something it hurt like a Bleet and I'm growing out of it..over the fad! Plus, I do want to have kids someday, and I don't want to wait till the last minute to take it out. I'm well aware of the scaring, but is it worth it to take it out? It seems like every forum I've read on this subject, most people seem to get it re-pierced just to hide the scar, but to be honest, if thats the only way to hide the scar, I might as well just live with the stupid decision I made when I was a teenager. Since I have no bumps, infections, or redness near the piercing site now, will my scar not be THAT bad? I'm prepared to buy scar cream, cocoa butter, and vitamin e, and rub it on my ringless bb piercing like crazy....

sorry this was really long, but can anyone give me advice from past experience?

Hi,

Not sure if anyone can help but I had my belly button ring in for around an year, maybe 2 years in total but I took it out at least 4 years ago. Today I noticed something sort of dark in the hole thats still there - when I squeezed the scar from the top and bottom a whole lot of thick white stuff came out in the shape of the scar. Then to my horror it was like the inside of the hole was coming out - its all red and purple. As soon as I let go this kind of goes away and goes back into the hole but now I don't know whats going on - I had always accepted the fact that I will have the hard line of skin from where the barbell was but didnt think it was possible that there was still stuff in there?! What do I do with it - go to the Dr?! Am freaked as I hate belly buttons and the fact I have a hole there!!

Thanks,
nickysnu

I'd go to the doctor - or the practice Nurse - at the worst they'll blame you-(which they won't) if it's in a bad way then they'll get it dealt with. If it's in a really bad way, they'll deal with it - there and then.

If you don't go and it gets worse then you've lost.

Remember that the Doctor & Practice are there to help you. not to blame you.
Also its easier to treat early-on - leaving- it-be is the worst choice.

Phone them for an appointment - The Doctor is the right person - (not the A & E)
Keep us informed.

The other day i was just about to clean my bellybutton with some salt water as i usually do every now and again because it hadnt healed up properly since i got it done in february and i noticed that i could see the bar coming out the skin had totally disappeared! So i tried to clean it anyways and the whole bar just came out and the piercing just spilt! I'm now furious because i didnt even know that this was possible in the first place and if i had of known i definately wouldnt have gotten the piercing! Now i'm left with a big huge dark mark around where the piercing was and i can only imagine what its going to look like when it heals up and scars! I'm not going to be able to show off my stomach again!

um. i got mine done abt a month ago. the process was pretty standard but now am not so sure abt it. :( :?
i had stopped hurting after a while but now it kinda stings a little esp. if i move it to clean it and ave been using alcohol (which i found out is a big NO NO) so now i think its infected cuz the skin at the top n bottom is dark and more puss seems to be coming out.
ave recently adopted a new cleaning regime, the anti bacterial soap in the bath n the saline solution once a week. i really hope it works cuz i LOOOOOVVVVEEE my piercing very much. :)
will the skin return back to normal though?
and wen does the pus actually stop coming out?
and wen do u kno if its FINALLY healed?

yay i found a place where girls have the same issue as me. i got my belly pierced about 8 or 9 months ago? anyways after about 6 months i think it was pretty much safe to say my body was rejecting it b/c the ring kept popping out and i had done everything the piercer told me to do to take care of it. from spraying it w/ H20 Ocean spray 3 times a day to mixing warm water with sea salt and apply it over my belly every night. it just wouldn't heal so i did the smart thing and just took it out. i was so devastated b/c i had wanted a belly ring for years (i am 23) and it looked super cute on me. i hate my body for rejecting it LoL. i don't think i'm ever going to re-pierce it b/c if my body rejected it the first time it will prob reject it again. so no adorable rings for me (i am so envious of girls that have one! haha. but then again they might run into problems in the future??) so my deal is that ever since i took it out it has healed and closed up. but now it's a little red and depressed :( it's not soooooo bad but knowing that it's there bothers me lol. i have used Neosporin which has helped a little but the depression is still there. i'm looking into NATURAL remedies to help it a lil b/c i'm not a fan of surgery :/ and i can't afford it. besides i don't think mine needs surgery i know there has to be something out there to make my scar blend w/ the rest of my tummy :/ hmmm... so if anyone out there has any suggestions for natural remedies or any over the counter medication or ointments plz let me know! my last choice is to visit a dermatologist to seek advice and or treatment. sorry for the long post! this is my first one ever :))

I got my lower navel pierce (ive had my upper navel for over a year) and the bar was far too short. It got infected within two days and had to be removed. Its still slowly healing but I want to know how to help it at least heal properly (the hole anyways) and what went wrong...

That was my 15th piercing so I know how to keep it clean and all that....

healed belly piercing redness?

Postby britaanyx0 » Mon Mar 07, 2011 6:03 am

hi, i got my belly button pierced on my 15th birthday (october 2009) i've had it for over a year (obviously) and its been infected a few times, mostly because i got lazy in cleaning it so i had to suffer the consequences.. or because i'm allergic to certain metals, pretty much anything that isn't gold. soo after i got a gold bar bell the infections cleared up and it did't bother me. so tonight i took it out to clean it just for the hell of it and i notice around the holes its still pretty red? kinda looks like i just got it. but it doesnt hurt one bit and its not oozing pus when i put the bar back through soo what does that mean? is it scarred? i really hoope not :/ sorry that was uber long lol. but does anyone know why its doing thaat?
thaank you :)

Bubbles14, i dont think that sounds like anything out of the ordinary . i had mine done when i was 13/14 too (without my mum knowing!) and i think thats just how it heals. maybe pop back into where you got it pierced and they'll take a look at it ! make sure you clean it ALL the time, iv heard of yucky stories when it gets infected !
