It's out!

Postby LauraBH » Sat Jun 23, 2007 10:03 pm

Hi
I'm glad I stumbled across this site. I had the implanon put in Oct 05, going straight from the injections. I have been a miserable cow to live with ever since apparently! But as stress and depression had been diagnosed and the doc said it couldn't be the implanon I carried on. Gained 3.5st and became more miserable. I'm 28 with no kids. My periods suddenly returned this year, after bleeding for 23days I went to the doc who gave me more homones and this did stop the bleeding. I got married in March this year and after long talks with hubby we decided enough was enough the implanon had to go! BUT we don't want kids yet.

Experience with the doc was enough to know I didn't want to go back there, so we had a consultation at the local family planning clinic who were BRILLIANT. They listened to the problems, were helpful and came up with a good solution. They have taken out my implanon and put in a copper coil. So I am now hormone free!!!!!! :D

The implanon was not painful to remove (although apparently it was in deep) and was very quick, please do not fear having it removed. I can't say the coil was pain free  as I haven't had kids but 48hrs on I'm fine.

When deciding what to do I thought that going to the doc was OK but she does only a couple of coil insertions a month and even less implanon removals. The family planning guys do it every day, they were professional, slick and just plain wonderful! :D

Hello everone, I have had my implant in 7 days now and I feel like CRAP!

My left arm - in which the implant is inserted - is constantly tingling and cold, also my shoulder, ribcage and also slight dull pains in my jaw have occured. Also, my left nipple is always hard and my left breast seems to be growing at a massive rate while my right one stays the same! I mean, for God's sake! Also, I've found lumps in my left breast and when I inspect them they become achy and extremely sore.
I confessed to my boyfriend that all of this was going on and he made me call NHS direct (UK). The Nurse on the phone said that it was because of the implant but told me to get a check up anyways. There were no signs of these things happening at all before I got the implant.

I've never had a regular period but I've been spotting a lot but extremely light. I'm quite overweight but I am so scared of putting more on as I'm trying to lose as best I can. I've already noticed stretchmarks on my tummy and I've only had it in a week but I've been dieting strictly and excercising all the same.

I'm about to move from the north to down south in a weeks time so I'm going to have to have my doctor/surgery changed which is a massive upheaval. I'm not excited about the move like I was before I went in and I've been feeling utterly worthless and very depressed. I'm extremely lethargic while at the same time having terrible problems sleeping.

I'm 23 and the last thing I would ever want to have is children and I don't think I am a strong enough person to go through with an abortion if it were to ever happen to me, it's one of my main fears. Myself and my boyfriend REALLY don't want kids. I'm alergic to rubber and go absolutely INSANE if I'm put on estrogen pills. Are there any other options?

I'm only young but I know that I will never want to have children. I'm seriously considering surgery.

Any advice would help greatly.

Oh I am so glad to find people suffering with their implants!

Me and my housemate both got the implanon around june last year and we have both decided to have it out. We have both put on around a stone despite also having joined the gym at the same time and constant salad eating!

In response to anybody who says that the implanon does not make you put on weight, please bear in mind that people react to these things in different ways and I would say that it has definitely affected weight gain for us!

I too have suffered great mood swings including crying at the drop of a hat like the first poster on here. I have not heard much about people's moods being affected so I am so glad there are others out there! I have also come very close to becoming violent with people over relatively small things, this worries me because it is not in my nature at all!

On top of this I started off bleeding for two weeks every three weeks, now it has become worse with heavy bleeding, cramps which are so extreme I have been sick and felt faint and now I am pretty much on my period all the time apart from three days off every two weeks.

If the implant doesn't affect your mood much I dread to think what I'd be like on the pill!

I have discussed adding the pill into it but this is mainly aimed at controlling the bleeding so I think if anything I will go for the coil, as I feel anything hormone related changes my whole personality!

I can't believe I haven't had it taken out sooner to be honest, it's affected my life in a very negative way. :(

OMG, i cant believe it I've just sat reading through most of these posts and everything that you have all been experiencing mood wise i have had, but my doc told me it was nothing to do with my implant! I had my implant put in roughly june 2006. Iv put on at least 4 stone since then, i feel miserable, i argue with my boyfriend about the simplest of things and i even take it out on his kids some times which is not fair on them. I went onto the implant after using the pill and then having injections. Didnt have any periods at all since i started the pill untill 2 months ago when i started and i bleed for about 2 weeks which is S*** and costs a bomb in pads!! I cant believe so many of you have had the same problems as me, i may have to think about getting mine out and seeing if it helps. God you lot are life savers :P

Hi guys,

I've had 2 days at the doctors and a night spent in A+E. I've had severe reactions to this implant but I still suggest that if you're considering getting it then do your homework. It's actually very dangerous if you use it long term and there has been evidence of long term repercussions even after singular use. I've been reading up on it and it shouldn't be given to anyone who -

Smokes
Is overweight
Has a heart murmur (Basically you should have a chest exam before you're even considered)
If any member of their family from either parental side has had breast cancer.
If any member of your family - past or present - has had a stroke.
Has had or has depression

My friend is a registered nurse and she says that the cons outweigh the pros on this implant. I've talked to people in GUM clinics, Accident and Emergency and Doctors surgeries and they all have said that about 95% if women will put on a drastic amount of weight and have huge amounts of side effects for the whole of their time with the implant.. The other 5% are lucky but have effects in other ways. You're lucky if it settles down and you're super lucky if you have no side effects at all.
It's hard to get the implant taken out because you have to wait but luckily I'm getting mine taking out on Tuesday, less than 2 weeks before it got put in.

I really do hope you all feel better and more comfortable about this situation in the future.

Implants

Postby Sandra, croydon » Mon Jul 02, 2007 9:12 pm

Hi all, just had my implant removed this afternoon, after months of trying to find someone who would take it out. No one seemed to have wanted to! The waiting list at the clinic was months away and finally my doctor agreed. I've got stiches in my arm and get them removed next week, but am in pain and have been given antibiotics which apparently is the norm. I was on my periods for 3 weeks out of the month and constantly felt, moody, sad and lightheaded. Twice, I almost fainted when out, feeling like the room was spinning! It's been dreeadful. I've put weight on too, and it seems like for no reason, my whole body shape has changed! I'm glad I've had it removed and am just waiting for my system to get back to normal. Does anyone know how long it takes for your body and moods to get back to normal and are you covered or should I be taking some other form of contraception straight away? Only had the thing in my arm for a year, but hey, it was a year too long?

Implanon contraceptive implant

Postby kirstysue » Tue Jul 03, 2007 3:45 am

I had the implant fitted in November 2006, all good till about 2 months ago, then a 2 week heavy period started, I'd had no bleeding for 6 months previous to this. 2 weeks after the period stopped I came on again, just as heavy and inconvenient as the last. Spotty skin around my mouth, (hormonal I've been told), tender, sore boobs, a raging appetite and a low libido. Having it removed asap and going back on the progesterone only pill, Cerazette. No periods, weight gain or spots. Why did I ever go off it I ask myself now.

I'm getting the rod taken out today! In 3 hours in fact! Can't bloody wait. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but one of my boobs has grown bigger than the other and it's quite noticble. Horrible stuff. I had to go to A+E, family planning/test centres and my GP 3 times before anyone would help me get it out but I've had extreme side effects so that may be why I got someone to take it out asap. Still had to wait 5 days though.

I'm also hoping that all of the side effects just go away as soon as I've had it removed and that I lose all the weight that I've put on. Bear in mind that I've had this thing in just under 2 weeks. I can't cope with it any more.

Could anyone offer any guidence as to what is the best pill to take instead of this rod thing? No weight gain, no spots, no bigger sore boobs and no periods please.

Implanon removed thank God!!!

Postby Yvonney » Tue Jul 03, 2007 9:26 am

I had the Implanon put in at end of Feb, no probs at all, I had headaches when I was on the pill, so thought this was a good Idea. a friend of mine recommended it, she was on her 2nd one. Hten about a month ago I started getting pains in my stomach, cramps, bloatedness, I couldnt enjoy a meal without feeling sick or bloated. Several people suggested I pregnant, as it appears like morning sickness. I tried all the indegestion tablets under the sun, didnt work. I'm getting married in 2 months and have put on 8lbs (6kg).Ive never put on more than 2 -3 lbs over a few months, my weight never really fluctua I ve been going to gym 3 times a wk since January and cut out carbs, red meat, alcohol, living on veg and fish, but I still put on wieigh. Snapping at my fiance, crying, feeling depressed all the time for no reason!

So i got it taken out 2 wks ago. Thing is, does anyone know how long it takes to lose that weight? Doc told me it was all water retention but I havent lost a pound since it was removed! Really need to lose this extra weight for me to fit into my dress. Its not that much, but I cant seem to shift it! Anyone know how long it takes for body to go back to normal????? :?

Anyone had a good experience on this?

Postby Sarah81 » Wed Jul 04, 2007 3:21 pm

I have just spent the last half hour reading through most of the posts - and it seems to me that no-one has had a good experience with Implanon!

I'm considering having it done - but a couple of my friends have had weight gain / mood swings / acne so I was sceptical when the doctor suggested it. They said this is very rare and most women it works wonders and without any side effects. (hmmm, I find that hard to belive having read the posts!)

Perhaps it works as a contraceptive because you get so fat spotty and moody that no man will touch you with a barge pole!!

I think I'll go back on the pill!!

Implanon

Postby Annabella » Wed Jul 04, 2007 8:56 pm

I have had the implanon for about 18 months now and I feel that I have not had major problems with it up until now! My sex drive has gone progressivlely down hill.  I first thought that it was due to having a young child and baby but now that they are both sleeping through the night I am should be happy to spend time in bed with my hubby insetad my sex drive is non existent.
I also find that I am sweating constantly and have to shower and change a few times a day! :( :( :(
I went to my doctor today who although sweating is not supossed to be one of the side effects he says that it is possible and I should think about getting steralised (I am 30 with 2 children).
I notice a lot of people saying that they are getting weight increase ... I just thought that my weight gain was still my baby fat!
My periods has also returned .. they were completely gone for about a year ... now they have come back worse than ever!
Thanks for reading.

Implanon removal

Postby jodle » Thu Jul 05, 2007 1:30 pm

Hi all!

I had my implant removed in March and I'm still waiting for my hormones to get back to normal, has anyone else experienced this. When I had my implant fitted three years ago my periods completely stopped immediately, I had some side effects including feeling pregnant regularly (extreme fatigue, nausea etc) and decided not to replace it as my husband and I want to start a family however I still haven't had a period but have had the most apalling cramps which painkillers don't touch, the last time the pain lasted for a week and was like the most horrific period pain I have ever experienced but with no bleeding, I am now having to go to see a gynacologist which I'm really worried about as I am scared about what they'll find.

Has anyone else experience this?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!
