Please Please help.

I had the implant inserted over 2 months ago but in the last 3 days I feel like im going crazy. I have a history of Depression and I feel at the moment like a double edged sword. Its like bi polar. One minuite im ok generally fine next im biting the head of my partner and getting snazy and nasty even though I know theres no reson for it.

Is this my implant? Do I need it removing?

Thanks

hi

if it helps, i was diagnosed with depression about 18months ago.... ive been on the implanon for 7 years now... however, after reading various forums i am having it removed ASAP

ive had alot of side affects that other women have got too - tiredness, fatigue, weight gain, extremely up and down moods - i even had 4 blood tests for thyroid etc which were all negative....

my doctor has been insistant that there are no side affects but there cant be over 400 posts from different women with the same affects and there "be no side affects".... absolute BS...

i thought the implant was faultless - now i cannot believe i thought that... i will try to remember to check in after a couple months of it being removed (cycle should return to normal after a few days) hopefully i will be back to my old happy skinny active awake self in no time :)

NB - may be different for you, but hopefully this helps... i take 20mg ecitalopram but i swear i shouldnt be.... is probably the implant...

Jo your doctor is talking bull sh*t which is shocking tbh! You cant introduce any hormones into your body and not have reaction to it! It's all about whether you can manage those reactions!

I suggest you print this off and show it to your doctor... It's the list of side effects from an nhs website

Hope you get on ok!

Hey everyone

Like loads of people before me I just want to say thanks as well for posting your experiences. At 1st I thought it was just me but then I read what was happening to other people and it was such a relief to know I wasn't alone.

I got the implant about november time last year. I was on the pill (cilest) for about 6/7 yearss before that. I have always suffered really bad period pain on the pill so thought I would look into alternative contraception.
I had read a bit about side effects and long periods so I asked the doctor about it at my appointment at the clinic. She just said ‘everyone’s different’ so I thought I would give it a go. I really now wish I hadn’t because it has ruined so much :(

At first I was taking the pill with the implant to try and control my periods because I was just constantly bleeding. My periods then regulated about jan time so I stopped taking the pill jan/feb time. At first like many others I thought the implant was great – my periods had seemed to stop altogether and I didn’t have bad period pain anymore! I also didn’t seem to be putting on much or any weight although I have always been pretty slim.
It’s not until the break up between me and my boyfriend that I’ve realised what it’s been doing to me.
I was arguing with him for no reason or for ridiculous things that shouldn’t have bothered me. I would just feel so wound up and like my blood was boiling that I couldn’t control what I did or said. I would also get upset about nothing or the simplest of things! I’m totally gutted about all this because I don’t think he wants to speak to me anymore because he feels the way I treated him was just out of control and he can’t forget it. I wish he would read what people are saying here and see that that wasn’t me and I’m not that person and for him to give me another chance :(

Now on thinking back I can see a lot of side effects here which I didn’t realise could be related to the implant. I have IBS which has been pretty bad recently I get bad stomach pains, cramps and bloating which could actually be related to the implant. (have been taking medicine for my ibs for months which hasn’t helped at all)
Have also been quite a panicky and stressed person recently (I just blamed stress at work) had no idea that could be linked to the implant as well. Other things that may be linked are headaches, feeling pretty down and crying a lot for no reason, dizziness, and anxiety.

The one thing I have found different from others is that I haven’t put on weight on the implant (although I’ve always been skinny) and after jan/feb time I didn’t get anymore bleeding. Have any others been like this?
Also I was wondering when most people got affected by the mood swings? How many months into getting the implant and if anything made it worse? Also what I don’t get is how they know what dose of hormones are going into your body from the implant? Mean we are not all the same size and what might be ok for one person could be a huge overdose to the next person.

Anyway sorry for rambling and I wish everyone out there good luck :)

I will try to keep you updated once I get the implant out (Monday hopefully) and try to return to normal life. Whether my relationship can be saved or not I do not know :(

wow! I thought i was the only 1. i am from australia and got the implanon this year @ age 16, i got the implanon inserted for 2 reasons, to make sure i didnt become pregnant and it seemed like the easiest option. My friend had got it a few months earlier and she had lost weight so i thought great! i will too since having the implanon i have put on at least 5 kgs and get very moody, my boobs have grown tremendously resulting to really bad strech marks which i have become very self consious about. I have only had it in for about 4 months but am considering removing it early as the weight gain and depressing weight gain is not worth it.

I gained almost 100 pounds during my pregnancy, and even one year after having my daughter, I still hadn't lost a pound. I just had my implanon out a week ago and I honestly haven't changed my eating habits (which are pretty healthy) and I have already lost 10-15 pounds. I am SO happy I got it out as I had unpredictable bleeding and crazy mood swings. I feel like I have my life back. Hope you all can consider a change if it is bringing you frustration.

Hi guys,

Update for you...
I have just had it removed hurrah!! It doesnt hurt, the anesthetic is the most uncomfortable things, like a pin prick then some stinging other than that, painless!

I am hoping like hell I loose this exess weight, and my mood swings improve and in turn my ibs improves, because I don't know what else I can do!

I will be back to let you know how I'm getting on!

:-)

The side effects and weight gain is very real and not something you guys are imagining. I just had my implant removed 3 weeks ago after having it in for 6 months. During these 6 months I was extremely depressed and angry and irrational and I am normally a pretty upbeat optimistic person. I also put on 25lbs very quickly and I have never had a weight problem or been over 125lbs in my life. I am extremely active and due to my many food allergies have always been a very healthy eater and my fiance is a personal trainer he would never let me get away with any unhealthy habits. I just kept gaining and no matter how hard I worked the weight would not budge. In just 3 weeks since the removal I have already dropped 10lbs easily with no change to my regular diet and workout routine and I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders and I am finally happy and feeling more and more like my real self again everyday.
For those of you that like implanon and dont have side effects thats awesome and I wish it worked out for me because it would have been very convenient not having to worry about birth control everyday. But for those having side effects just trust me that getting rid of it has made my life sooo much better emotionally and physically. :D
- I also forgot to mention it wasnt painful at all getting it removed, they numb you up and you feel nothing. I just had a bruise for a couple days no biggie

Hi I have been using Implanon for 12 years and think it is absolutely wonderful! I have had no problems with weight control other than my own eating habits!! I may have had 6 periods over this time which for me was more than welcomed. I mainly use this form of contraception because I suffer from stroke effect migrains and the combined pill makes them severly worse.

Re: Implanon contraceptive implant-weight loss after remova

Postby Guest » Fri Aug 05, 2011 12:29 pm

Hi!

I've had the implant since the start of October 2010. I'm getting it removed later on today. It's been really up and down - I had four months of bleeding constantly - I remember I had one Sunday where I didn't bleed! After that I had 4 months not bleeding and now I've been bleeding since May. It's really irritating and it costs a fortune in sanitaries as well.
The one side effect I've had which I haven't seen mentioned very often is that it ITCHES SO MUCH. I've practically scratched it out of arm a couple of times - often when I've got quite warm.. I've also had whole afternoons when it's stung for no apparent reason as well. My arm looks an absolute mess when I've been scratching it because of all the scabs on top of the implant and around the side of it where I've tried not to scratch it. Also, I've been scratching it in my sleep as well...
I took the pill (microgynon 30) a couple of times which has stopped the bleeding but as soon as I come off it, the bleeding starts again.. Plus I get really bad spots as well.
I'm scared about having it removed later because I'm not the best with dealing with pain as I remember it did hurt when it was inserted. It was more the local anaesthetic that stung quite a lot. But at least the pain doesn't last too long..

I hope my experiences will help you guys make a decision about whether to have it inserted. The only good thing about it, is that it's so convenient. Also I think I lost weight when I first had it inserted as well and my weight has been constant all time I've had it.
Clare :D

Concerns about implanon

Postby Ashley3721 » Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:52 am

Ive had implanon since March 2009 and practically been bleeding every since I got it. Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of anyone getting pregnant while having implanon?
I know the drs say its 99.99% effective or whatever but the past few weeks I'd swear on anything Ive been feeling pregnant. Not taken a test or been to the doctors yet just wondering if anyone know of anyone getting pregnant,
especially this far into their 3 years.??

Hi Ladies

It's been 3 months since I had the implanon, and I already want to get it removed. I just had my daughter four and a half months ago. Since having the implanon placed, I have gained weight. I've been so depressed and gloomy and emotional and it's terrible cause usually I'm a very cheerful and happy person. I been dieting and watching what I eat and staying active, but instead of losing weight, I'M GAINING WEIGHT!!! With three young children at home I have no choice but be active :benny: lol. Reading all of these post made me decide to call and get this implant removed ASAP thanks ladies for the advice  .

Hi everyone,

Have had the implant out for 2 weeks now. Have been feeling so much better its amazing. My moods have lifted and I don't feel so anxious anymore and worry about every silly thing! I also haven't had any moments of rage - I don't feel so wound up anymore and I can see what I was like before was out of control, almost possessed!
It's so reassuring to know that this wasn't me and that these hormones were affecting who I was - just have to try and get my life back on track now.
Would also like to say that I have had hardly any ibs symptoms in the past few weeks - I know its early days but I really do think now that this was all related to the implant too - all the bloating and cramps and stomach pain.
I also haven't suffered any bad headaches and feel less tired and grumpy (which I felt almost all the time before when I had the implant!)
The above are all listed side effects and if it’s affecting you its your body and if you want to get it out then do it. It's the best thing I have done for myself I just wish I had never got it put in in the first place. The implant hasn't been around for that long and I don’t feel the healthcare profession know enough about it and how it affects woman. Just because it's cost effective and is very effective at preventing pregnancy doesn't mean its a wonderdrug. They don't think about how much these hormones can mess with peoples bodies both physically and mentally.

Good luck to everyone!

OMG, I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread!!
I'm having my implant removed this afternoon, its my second on. I had NO problems at all with my first (in for 3 years) but after my 3rd child (who is 2 in September) I had my second Implant and I have had all the syptoms that everyone else has had too, weight gain/ depression/ lack of sex drive!
I don't quite understand how it is only the second implant that made me feel this way but there we go. My husband has now had the "snip" so we dont ever have to worry anymore either. I've been on a diet for the last 3 weeks and have managed to loose 7lbs by myself, I've still got at least another 20 to go, but its pleasing to know that it might happen a bit quicker after the implant has gone.
