i had my implant in two days after my 17th birthday in 2004, they told me i had to be on my period, but i wanted it as soon as i herd about it, so we booked a date when i estimated when i would start my period.

The day that i went to have it i wasnt on my period so i lied and said i was anyway! Since then i have a period every 3 weeks, and it lasts for 3 weeks, and there VERY heavy! Does any one know if thats because i wasnt on my period when i had my implant??

It doesnt realy bother me as much as it does my fiance!

hey no it doesn't matter that you wasn't on you period because when I had mine I wasn't on mine and I have had mine for nearly 2 years with out even having 1 period. I guess it just because everyone is different and reacts differently to it. I feel sorry for you though.

hello ladies! and i thought i was the only one.
i got implanon to help stop my periods so i would stop being so anemic.
well, it stopped my periods but it didnt help anything else!
i became a different person, testy, irritable, low concentration, low motivation, low energy, weight gain, the lot.
in the 2 years i have had it i probably gained 15lbs. BUT those 15lbs are from striving to stay slim (i model) and sometimes eating very little for days on end. i have signed a contract to model with an agency but i just want to shift this horrible extra weight that is on me! i am not huge by any means, but i was very naturally skinny before- and i have found weight really sticks to my thighs and stomach NO MATTER what i eat/do to exercise.
well, ive emailed my local health clinic to see if they will do this for me- if not im turning up at the hospital and demanding they take it out there and then! i will let you know how it goes.
thanks everyone for the advice, aand good luck!

[b]I only checked on this link because I was due to take my implant out 4 days ago but was worried about side effects!
Glad I stumbled on this though.

I had a baby in April 2009 and had the implant put in in the June of the same year. I'd gained 3 stone during pregnancy and only shifted 1 stone before having the implant put in.
I am now 3 1/2 stone heavier then my post baby weight and although I've joined weight loss classes, I havn't lost as much as I know I should have by now. hopefully when the implant is removed i might see a better result!

I've also lost my sex drive, i thought this was due to being a mummy and feeling bad about my weight gain but now i'm not so sure. Depression was also mentioned and that sent alarm bells ringing as well. constant lows, crying for silly reasons, i thought i was going mad and kept telling myself to pull it together. im not trying to blame my problems on the implant as someone suggested in previous posts but it would explain a lot. im due to take it out on monday so will keep you posted and see if it is this thing in my arm or if im just a depressed overweight mess without a reason lol

Having read this forum my eyes have been opened wide. I've had two implanons since 2007 and have sworn by them as I've had normal menstrual cycle and no side effects. That i knew of. From reading this i now know that my weight gain is more likely to be attributed to my implant. I was on Lighterlife diet in 2006-2007 and lost 4stone but then I got implant and my weight plateaued so I stopped diet seeing it as a waste of money. I have since gained in excess of the 4stone i lost and two summers ago i was doing three bodypump classes a week as well as bodycombat amd bodyattack three times a week whilst watching my calorie intake and didnt budge all summer. Last summer i went on Lipotrim diet and plateaued after a month and this year I took part in a Pureloser bootcamp at my gym and plateaued after a week. A WEEK! So now I have had implant removed hopefully I can achieve some weightloss.

omg!! after reading this i have confirmed in my head that my implant doesnt agree with me, i have had mine in a year and its been nothing but trouble i think ive only had an average of 12 weeks that i havent bled thro the year mainly heavy but sometimes light (which is confidence destroyer) i cant really say about mood swings as i suffer from bipolar but if i put hand on heart i wood say ive been worst this last year.
i have also gained weight a whole 2 stone and havent been able 2 work out why as i go to gym 3 times a week and do slimming world diet and i lose 1lb 1 week then but 2lb on week after, and i stick to the diet it makes me wanna break down that i cant lose weight!!
i went to my doctors a few times but they have refused to take mine out even tho i have no labido since having this implant and could quite simply turn selabit lol any ideas of how i can convince them to take it out for me??
all suggestions welcome xx

I have had the implanon in for the past 3 years, in that time i have gone from a size 10 to a size 16  I'm finally getting it taken out this friday and so hoping i can at least get down to a size 12 :) I have had mood swings, weight gain, acne, NO bleeding what so ever, increase in appetite, tender/sore breasts/nipples...I'm hoping all these side effects calm down after the removal

Hi ladies.
I had my implant put in after the birth of my son in november 2009. straight after birth i lost all my baby weight soon as i had the implant put in i put so much weight on,tried exercise, changing my meal plan and nothing to shift the weight i would lose a couple of pounds but put it back on straight away! My mood swings were just unbearable ,id get so mad over the littlest of things i literally felt like my blood was boiling . i Felt constantly tired all the time and worried about everything and anything and had no sex drive what so ever. Also my periods were terrrible i could go a couple of months without no bleeding and then constant bleeding of and on for weeks at end . So after 2 and half years i finally had enough i had no confidence in me because of the weight i had put on and just wanted the implant out of me , so I had the implant taken out a week ago and i feel so different . I have more energy i feel more calm and at ease . My libido is defiantly back and i feel less hungry and get full up straight way . Hope this helps

I hope it all works out for you...I actually had a different effect since having the implant 4 years ago my BP has steadily risen, uncontrolled by meds and no family history. Went on 18 Jun 12 to have it removed BP 167/101 after removal 142/72! Even the Doc was shocked! Hope all goes well.

Disgusting wrote:I'm beyond happy that I found this discussion board. I started Implanon in late August 2011, and gained a little over 20 lbs (I don't know what the stone equivalent is for that) in 10 months. While I could probably attribute a few pounds to a formerly sedentary lifestyle, there is no way that I gained that much weight on my own. I have been eating a clean + healthy diet for 5 of those months and have been working out 4-6 times a week. One week, I gained 5 **cking pounds in 4 days! To say I'm p*ssed is to make an understatement.

I've also had disgusting back acne, which has never been a problem in my entire life. My skin is beyond oily, and nothing I use on it makes it better. I am convinced that these effects are directly related to the implant. I got mine removed this afternoon, so I can't wait until it's out of my system so I can finally see if my body + my life will go back to normal. I have never felt like such a disgusting individual in my entire life when I'm more active + healthy than I have ever been.

Kudos to you girls who haven't experienced any of this, and please do not judge those of us who gained weight by saying it's simply diet and exercise. It's so frustrating to see that when I'm working my butt off exercising, eating clean and still gaining weight. Hormones can have wild effects on weight on women, so it was so comforting to see that I'm not crazy and that there are over 100 pages of girls who are experiencing the same problems.

I didn't see anyone else with this problem, but prior to the implant I had my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc checked and everything was off-the-charts awesome. I had it taken today when they were removing it and it's very high. They took it twice and the second time (after they removed it) was higher than the first time. Something I also find scary, and hopefully is an isolated incident as I have never come close to high blood pressure.

Postby Noel-Vermillion » Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:16 pm

Hello everyone,
I got the implant in February this year, because i knew i wouldn't be practicle for me to have the pill becuase i know i would forget to take it, and didn't want to risk getting pregnant because i am only 16 and a half, and have a sexual relationship. When i got the implant, i didn't actually feel it go inside my arm, which was nice, and the lady said it would be visible in my arm because i am quite skinny (about 6stone 4ish). I knew anyway that i would end up with a bruise around the area for a few days, yet mine lasted over a week and kept changing colours. Before i got the implant i had very irregular periods, which once didnt come for 12 weeks. When i first got it in, i had very heavy periods which was odd to me, that where painful and lasted nearly a week, and now i am 3 months in, and i havent had a bleed in quite a few weeks, which is nice for me. But i have experienced side affects: constant mood changes (easily frustrated and upset), fluctuations in weight. But worst of all, because the implant is constantly pumping progesterone into my body, it has made my breast size increase from about an DD to E, and i am now an F, and for a 4ft 11, 16 year old there very noticable, and i have ended up with bright red, deep stretchmarks, which i hate because i want to look good in a bikini for the summer if its decent. I just want to ask the rest of you if you think i should change it for another contraceptive, or stay with it?

Sometimes I feel the positive posts put on sites for Implanon are from male drug reps. I had mine inserted on July 29, 2011. Had it removed October 15,2011. Acne, oh my gosh it was bad!!!! . Gained 10 pounds. That wasn't the big issue, though. Mood swings from hell, severe anxiety, and depression! Wtf..... It was bad. My OB now, refuses to put it in anyone. Oh, and it can take much more than 6 days for your hormones to return to normal. Read about hormonal imbalances. On a reputable web site. I just had a hysterectomy and I'm finally starting to feel a little better. Hormones are stored in our uterus' too. I recommend the use of synthetic hormones be banned. Pull out, use a condom, pray, get a hysterectomy, tubal ligation, just please women, lets stop poisoning our bodies to prevent life. There are other, safer ways!!!

Re: Implanon contraceptive implant-weight loss after re

Postby bye bye Implanon » Fri Jul 06, 2012 2:01 pm

Hi I've had my implanon in for about 7 month now, i had it put in about two months after my second child was born at which point i'd mostly lost my baby weight, i went for this one because i'd got caught with my both son(5yr) and daughter(9mnt) on the combined pill. I barely gained any weight during my pregnancy with my son and was back into size 8 jeans a week after he was born and i've stayed size 8 between 8-9 stone since, i then got caught with my daughter and went up to size 12 (maternity jeans) this time whilst pregnant, i've been lucky in preganacy. I lost the weight again almost straight away i was back to 9 stone size 8-10 by her two month point at which time we decided to try implanon. since then i've had weeks of bleeding with the occasional week off inbetween, spots, mood swings (mainly getting randomly blue, teary and overwhelmed) tiredness and i've put on a 2stone which at 5'4 doesn't spread well lol! i eat really healthy, take vitamins and do a workout dvd (jillian michaels) every weekday morning as normal... plus too'ing and fro'ing from nurseries, doctors, playgroups and walking the dog! so i can only chalk this weight gain up to the implanon i even stop having a monthly takeaway as my well earned treat!3 months ago and no effect! i'm having it removed at the year mark and we'll have a good look into other options. it not fair working to so hard to have a healthy body and having it taken away regardless and quite alot of my friends who i've complained about this too have had the same side effects too! The contraceptive effect of this is moot if your feling rubbish emotionally and physically and bleeding all the time anyway because you dont feel like having "intimate relations" with your partner. gald i tried it to get my own opinion on it as we ladies are delicate creatures and all effected differently but this one is definitely not for
bye bye Implanon

Re: Implanon contraceptive implant-weight loss after re

Postby emma3662 » Mon Jul 09, 2012 10:40 am

ive been using the contraceptive implant for 5 years now. I am having it replaced today, although im actually thinking of not having it replaced and going without for a while. since having it first inserted over 5 years ago it has stopped my periods completely, not even slight spotting. now as some of you may be thinking thats great (especially those who have had heavy and painfull periods) yes in a way it is great, but in all seriousness, that cant be good for your body! 5 years without having a single period.

Contraception wise... the implant has been brilliant, certainly done its job, BUT side effect wise its been awful.

My severe weight gain is the worst thing. Now im not blaming all of my weight gain on the implant as i will be honest, my diet isnt the greatest but the implant is notoriously known for weight gain so i do belive it had played a big part in this.
i had the implant fitted after the birth of my son, at the time of birth i had gone up to a size 16. After having it fitted i ballooned from a size 16 to a size 22 within 12 months! 17 stone!!! the absoloute heaviest i had ever been! i had been a size 10/12 all of my life except for pregnancy so this was absoloute devastating for me. after 5 years of being on the implant i have managed to keep my weight stable at 17 stone.

I also have quite bad water retention on my legs. my calfs especially. they are massive and rock solid!!! my legs literally are like trunks at the moment, considering i used to be someone who loved wearing skirts i wont even wear three quarter length trousers now as my ankles are like the same size as my thighs.

My labido has gone the complete opposite to what seems to have happened to everyone else. i cat get enough. my poor boyfriend cant keep up lol.

i wouldnt say i have mood swings but my fuse has definatly shortened. as someone who used to have alot of patience, now the slightest thing will send me into a vile raging menace. usually i am generally happy and upbeat but i definatly now have no tolerance for bullsh*t.

so today at 2pm i will be having the implant removed and i think more than not, i wont be having another put in. i shall keep you updated on any weight loss.... fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!

Postby ScarTissue » Mon Jul 09, 2012 3:42 pm

Wow, I can't believe how delusional I've been over the last 3 years.

I originally got the implant 3 years ago when I was in an abusive relationship.
Too scared to leave, I got Implanon, determined to avoid pregnancy and a life sentence with the dirtbag. It was the easiest thing to hide.
I noticed instant changes, probably within a week of insertion.
My hair had become unmanageable and rather than having to wash it every three days, I begun having to wash it every day.
I also had a sweet tooth that I couldn't combat, and my self esteem began to plummet further.
I was told by the doctor that I wouldn't gain weight or really notice any difference.
I was put on anti deppressants within the same month, so couple that medication with the implant, my weight and behaviour spiralled.

I'm disgusted in the weight I've gained with little to no change in diet.
I went from a healthy size 8 (Aust) to a blubbering wreck of a size 14-16. I've literally doubled in size!
I have lost confidence in myself, I hate going out, hate shopping etc.
I exercise, walking at least 3km per day, I eat well, avoid snacks etc.
I've actually increased exercise from before insertion!

My 3 year sentence is nearly up, so hopefully I can get my life back on track after this parasite is removed.

Thank you all for your stories, you've confirmed my suspicions and now I'm going for the removal. I'm hoping to post back in 6 months and let you all know about the changes I've noticed, with hopefully a lot of weight loss!

After reading all of everyone elses expriences i feel alittle smug for about what im about to say.

i got my rod put into my arm 3 years ago (going to get it replaced tommorrow) and its caused me no issues, sure i've put on weight but i know girl the same age as me who have also put weight on without using the rod.. plus these days weight gain is a side effect of anything,

plus having working at mcdonalds for 5 years i don't like to pin point all my weight gain on the contraception i use ect

I did exprience alot of moodyness and depression about half way through this year and for awhile i also blamed that on the rod.. but i also recovered from all of that and learnt to be happy again.

also i just got my period for the first time in 3 years and my god! I DID NOT MISS IT. i am in so much pain, feeling so on edge, so cranky, snappying at everyone, crying, eating so much rubbish.. its actually so much worse then anything else i can recall i have been through while not using the rod at contraception.. but as they say things effect others differently.. and maybe i just got lucky?

i hope that everyone elses expirences better themselves! xx
