Security and safety tips for travelling abroad

Postby Asa Gislason (FF Visitor) » Sun Apr 15, 2012 2:57 pm

Very good article. I would like to add the following tips to it:

Women travelling alone should avoid carrying bags that are easy to snatch of you. If you need your bag, try to wrap it around you rather than carrying it on your side.

If you find yourself in a situation where a thief tries to snatch your bag away from you, let it go rather than try to hold on to it and risk more serious assault.

Enjoy your travels.

Hello,
Passport and credit cards are the most important things when someone is travelling abroad and one should pay special attention to keep it safe. It is better not to put your travel documents in suitcase and always keep it on you so that when you lose your luggage, you still have your documents.

Thanks

there are many things apart passport and credit cards which raise safety issue. many women carry expensive jewelry on trip. if you are out for wedding then it is fine, but just for a normal family tour, carrying jewelry is unnecessary. also try to keep you baggage as less as possible. two bags are more than enough.

Tourists always stand out in the throng just for the reason that they do not fit in. Before you head to your aim, find out what the locals wear and how they act so you can mix together as a result. It is not a good thought to stare in awe at the attraction or look as if you are lost and confused. Furthermore, keep your camera inside your messenger's container in its place of execution it around your neck. Be tactful so you do not magnetize criminals who are always on the watch for unwary tourists.

Inform your neighbours of your holiday plans so that they can keep an eye on your property
Stop all newspaper deliveries and ask a friend or neighbour to collect your post. A bulging post box is a dead giveaway that you are not at home
If hiring a house sitter, ensure that you teach them how to use your alarm correctly
Double check that you have locked and secured all windows and doors before leaving home
Ensure that all your outside locks are a minimum of four lever locks or double cylinder security locks
Never leave a key in the inside of an outer door which has glass panels or glass near the door lock
Having security gates fitted on outer doors is a highly effective security measure that gives you an extra line of defence
Sliding doors can be secured simply by placing a piece of timber cut to size in the sliding rail. Make sure that sliding doors cannot be lifted vertically
Full fencing and sturdy gates are a good deterrent
Have good exterior lighting, preferably on a timer
Do not leave tools like ladders or spades outside, as they can be used to break into your house
Clear signage indicating that you have security also helps to discourage burglars
