Hello Lyn

Im a new driver an passd my test about 8 weeks ago. As I dont have much money I could only afford a cheap car so i got an old Peugot 205. I parkd it on the driveway at home while i saved up to pay for the insurance. It was left for about 6 weeks and i tried to drive it last week but i couldnt get it to start straight away. it took ages but eventually it started and i went out in it. But because there is lots of snow around i havnt been out in it for about a week. i was talkin to one of my friends and she suggested that even if i dnt drive it this week i should start it up and let it run for a bit. so i went out today but i couldnt get it to start. im new to driving and dont know much about cars so i would appreciate any tips.

Hi Sarah- if yours is anything like my car, you will probably have to do some pumping and bouncing to get it started, and it may take quite a bit of that since it has been sitting for some time. If you like, I will be on yahoo instant messanger in about 5 minutes- I am at "[email protected]" if you care to chat.

hi sarah smith, what lynn means is to pump the accelerator pedal really fast and to move your body up and down in the seat so furiously that your bottom comes off the seat oh yeah and try and coax the car abit by talking 2 it and saying sweet things to it.

if i can be of any help then email me @ [email protected] i will be glad to assist you if i can i don't know much about cars but i can be a reassuring help and a good listener.

your very welcome sarah and don't worry if you look silly doing it because it's a natural thing to do if you have a cold stubborn car i know quite a few people that do this sort of thing and kind of enjoy it just like lynn does and a few other members here do.

as i said before feel free to email me and let me know how you get on.

Hi Sarah- How did it go this morning? What I mean by "pumping and bouncing" is when you have a car that is difficult to start sometimes you have to be aggressive working the gas pedal while cranking the car at the same time, you know what I mean? Sooo- while the car is going rrrrrrRRRRRrrrrrrr you should be pumping the pedal at the same time, usually for me when that happens I tend to bounce up and down in the seat from pumping the pedal if that makes sense? Your body will look like you are running in place on the seat, its kind of weird.

The other thing to remember when you have an extended cranking session is to not crank the car too long or you will kill the battery faster. YOu have to let it rest some between tries. Also, pump the pedal some while you are waiting and not cranking the car.

Let me know if this helps!

It was 25 degrees out this morning when I left for work, so you can use your imagination how my car was, put it to you this way- "I appeared to anybody that saw me to be running in place in my seat while trying to start her today"....I hope leaving work is better for me, but I think it is only like 33 degrees out now, wish me luck :?
