Well to be honest, it would put me off if he was about to be a potential suitor. It would mean me driving around all of the time rather than sharing it.

My husband doesn't drive, and we've been married for 33 years. It doesn't bother me at all.

What do women think of men who don't drive?

Postby Guest » Mon Jun 26, 2006 10:23 pm

Thanks for the two opposing replies. Surely a potential suitor can possess many other qualities, talents or skills. Also in this age of equality is it ok for a woman not to drive? If yes then why can't a man also not drive? After all some women are content to let their husbands/boyfriends be the only driver, so why not the other way around? The main thing is that he doesn't regard you as a taxi service.
Interesting that the other view is from a women who's husband doesn't drive and she's been married for 33 years. Can I ask if you drove before you were married? Do you like being the one who drives? I assume your husband has never been interested in driving?
Hope this keeps the debate going.

I think men who talk about cars are awfully boring and if a guy doesn't drive, I wouldn't give a toss. There are always ways to get around. :D

Depends on where and how you live. In some cities driving makes little sense and car ownership prohibitive. So who really needs to be able to drive, man or woman?

But in country areas and towns/cities that have a more urban sprawl (like many of the US and Australian cities) not driving can be a professional and social handicap and these folk can become dependant on the good graces of others. In this situation I would loose patience with one who did not take the trouble to learn and assert their own independence of mobility.

I assume you drive, but don't mind your husband/lover only ever sat in the passenger seat. :)

Some interesting replies, it does depend on ware you actually live. Its less important if you live in a big city and don't have kids.

Guys who don't drive are losers and I wouldn't consider dating one. No ambition or drive obviously.
Margret Thatcher once stated that if a guy finds himself on a bus at the age of 23, unable to drive, and not owning a car, he may consider himself a failure.
Cars are the ultimate symbol of individualism and freedom, other women that find them boring or "dumb" are usually stupid themselves and are fitting themselves nicely into the "I'm a woman and don't want to know about cars- becuase they're a "man-thing" stereotype very nicely.

A very ambitious man I know doesn't drive. There goes your theory.

Because Margret Thatcher is an authority on what constitutes being a "failure" and not. LOL.

No, I'm of above average intelligence, actually. I just think many men who are very into cars are usually very boring. I wouldn't care, if a guy can drive or not, I have other prerogatives.

A very ambitious girl I know is a teenage single mother who lives off welfare. Theory intact.
Margret Thatcher was someone gal-kind should be proud of :)
It's interesting that you must proclaim your intelligence. Actions and posts speak louder than words m'dear. Nevermind, you never know, you keep saying it over and over and you might start believing it ;)

I sat next to some very attractive guys on the tube and bus and actually never gave it a second thought as to whether they possess a car or not. Think of all those missed opportunities if they were zipping around in cars.

with regard to margaret Thatcher. She has a son who is able to drive and has managed to get lost in the desert. I won't even bother to go into his involvement in helping to overthrow a foreign government. Now he is living in shame with mother....Failure!!!
