Macbook Pro keyboard illumination.

Postby Lucylastic » Thu Sep 11, 2008 12:54 pm

Does anyone know if it's possible to turn on keyboard illumination on an external Apple aluminium keyboard plugged into a Macbook Pro?

If I turn keyboard illumination on in system preferences, the built in keyboard illuminates but not the external one. Ideally I want one on and one off. This can't be beyond a smart computer like a Mac?

It may be a silly question, but does the external keyboard have external illumination?
Perhaps there's a setting in the operating system to tell it which keyboard you're using, but I'm only making a guess as I've only used a Mac once.
I certainly understand why you got a separate keyboard. It's not very comfortable to type on a laptop keyboard because the screen needs to be higher.

Apple says it needs a keyboard software update to use it:

Presumably that's something you would have done, but I can't find the driver update on Apple's site.

The built in keyboard is also an uncomfortably long way away on the 17 inch model.

I've done that, but it worked fine without it. Apple doesn't refer to 'drivers' just software - it was on the support site.

It appears that it does not. How embarrassing for me.

It's a lovely keyboard all the same. Highly recommended. Now I just need to wait for my cinema display to arrive. I'm getting a discount on that, so it has to chug over here from China.

Cinema display! :o That sounds awesome. Is that like some newfangled telliovision set to watch your moving pictures on?

No it's just what Apple calls its overpriced displays (probably with Samsung innards).

I do have a newfangled TV, since you ask. :D
