Honestly, this is where I think her massive ego got in the way. If this is "their" story (her words...because they lived through it, she just wrote about it), I think she would have been better off putting the actors front & center. I think the actors would have had more compelling things to say about the war and the film in relation to it and might have gotten more people to the theater. People like a human connection. Yes, most people go to the movies to escape or for entertainment, but there are the "tough" stories that people do flock to see because something about it makes them relate, sympathize, want to learn more, etc. You can make an educational story accessible & relatable, but it's all about the approach. And I think Angelina failed miserably at how she approached the marketing of this film. There is a disconnection because the only person you see front & center is a rich American who has spent very little time in that region and admits she didn't even know there was a war going on at the time. Angelina could have used her name recognition & power to get her actors face time; she did not need to be the one doing most of the talking, defending and lecturing. She's under the impression that people will see it because she's viewed as worldly & knowledgeable, but that's not reality. If this was true, her movie wouldn't be just over $300,000 right now. Unfortunately she has just wasted the most valuable press time she had, and I doubt she will walk away learning anything from this experience. After all, it's only $15+ million dollars.

I've stated before and I will state it once again...Jolie doesn't give two figs about these people and what they went through, nor will she EVER step foot in that region again, after she has used them for her own glorification. You will never hear her mention this region again. She will never go back on a humanitarian jaunt. She will use them for her own selfish purposes and toss them aside, just like Cambodia (where I still have never EVER seen pictures of such a clinic or school named after Maddox), just like Vietnam, just like Ethiopia that she states that they have been building a aids clinic there in honor for Zahara and setting up a foundation in her name, for 7 damn years...and yet they are still "building" it?? Whatthefuckever. Just like the Jolie-Pitt foundation, or the Maddox Jolie-Pitt foundation is only used for them using it a means for tax exempt status, to hide their money from the IRS.

I'm sure they are feeling very used at this point. Jolie has not once given the actors the spotlight. She uses them as props the same way she uses that gaggle of kids.
