I don't think he can bring himself to say the words. He's been denying her for years and even now they are calling it a promise. If he wanted to marry her he would just go ahead and do it. If you are with someone that long and have children how sad is it that you have to make a "promise for the future".

+2 This has already been said, but it bears repeating: these two are even dumber than we thought (which is frightening enough) if they honestly believe that anyone, save for their LOONatics, sees this "promise" as anything but another publicity grab. I mean, really.

Yes, it's absolutely TELLING that we are hearing about how the ring has been in production for "a year"-yet there is no sign that wedding plans are being or have been made AT ALL! Zip. Nada. That fact, in and of itself, is the CLUE that demonstrates that the whole thing is a big PR song-and-dance, probably meant to distract from the PLAGIARISM SUIT...Yahoo, f'r instance, can't seem to pump the articles about this bogus engagement out FAST ENOUGH!
