The bible has been translated numerous times and in each translation it is not unusual for at least one passage to be mistranslated. Look at the word helper when it refers to wives. Originally taken from a hebrew word *racks brain to try and remember the spelling..it eludes me* the word is uncommon and is used only to describe the wife as roughly translated "helper" though if you look at the other times it is used you will notice that it is used only when speaking of god as the helper as he smote someone's enemies. I really must go back and find the exact words.

Most evangelical Christians hold to these standards. Just read the Southern Baptist Convention's "Manifesto", pretty much that of any Pentecostal church (Assembly of God, Church of God, etc), and most independent fundamentalist churches', and you'll see what I mean. Children obey their parents. wives are to obey their earthy Christs (their husbands), and the head of the house (man) is to obey God. Or so the story goes...

Same here, but doesn't mean I believe this is suitable for most women nor even me if my HB was to leave or die or even until we die of old age, as I tell my friends its a lifestyle I choose now wit my HB only. No other man is my master and I will not submit to any other many. On the contray I tend to do the opposite. I love and enjoy seeing men blubber before me when standing there in tall kick arse heels, fitted clothing with a bit of clevage showing looking super hot and devilish.

I think reason why many religons are struggling with membership is because people see quotes like in OP and fail to see how this relates to today. Look at catholics stance on contraception, only hard liners follow and even then they use some form of birth control such as withdrawal and really how many even hard line catholic males don't masterbate, ever!
