Isn't that an offence in the US? Over here you would be in trouble if you had that on your car.

If that bumper sticker was illegal, every black rapper would be arrested due to their lyrics... and Chris Rock, with every other black comedian, would be buried under the jail house. I don't see the difference.

Thank You Zia.
There IS NO DIFFERENCE!
(And if somebody says that it's OK for a black man to call his own "people" the "N" word, but not a white man--THAT in and of itself is "racist".)

There is a reason I put in an apostrophe when I call him o'bumma  Bloodlines aside however, in his heart o'bumma is no more Irish than Bush is Sudanese.

I think the bumper sticker is both racist and politically incorrect. The n word originated and is still viewed today as a derogatory term toward blacks, and therefore use of it is racist. However, I also agree with Az that for blacks to use it themselves but throw a hissy fit when whites use it, also is racist.

Some people believe that the bumper sticker is a plant from the o'bumma reelection campaign to drum up sympathy for the president.
o'bumma is a play on words, using the American slang "bummer" = an unfortunate situation. oh!...bummer! is spelled as o'bumma. This and similar plays on words can be found in numerous places throughout the internet.

Lena, a woman who has declared:

"Israel is Hitler's revenge on the world"

When Lena makes statements like that, it shows that one should definitely pass on her advice.

The use of the N word isn't the only reason that bumper sticker is racist, even if it said "don't re-elect a black president" it would still be racist. At the time of The Labour Party election to find a replacement for Gordon Brown if a newspaper had run a headline saying "don't vote for Diane Abbott, choose a white leader" it would have been in trouble and quite rightly so.

Dan, please answer this; Is rap music racist with the abundant use of "nigga" this and "nigga" that? Is Chris Rock and Wanda Sykes racists when they use it in their stand-up acts?

Is "cracker" racist? Is "honkey" racist? C'mon, answer please. I truly want your opinion.

You never spoke up when Lena called black Republicans "Uncle Toms". Why is that? Isn't that 'racist'? Or is it only racist when it's applied to certain people? Every one of the conservative members in this thread took issue with her for using it. NO ONE to the left, or you guys from across the pond said anything about it. :?

Please don't shy away or ignore my questions. I really want to hear both sides of this because from where I sit, I see double standards.

Dan, I would also like to read what you think about this which is on the front page of AOL news today:

"Newt Gingrich Calls Robert De Niro First Lady Comments 'Inexcusable'

Newt Gingrich wants President Obama to apologize for a joke that Robert De Niro made at a campaign event Monday night.

"What De Niro said last night was inexcusable and the president should apologize for him," Gingrich told supporters in Shreveport, Louisiana, according to CNN. "It was at an Obama fundraiser, it is exactly wrong, it divides the country."

De Niro co-hosted the event with Michelle Obama at one of his New York City restaurants, and before the First Lady was introduced he made a quip about the GOP candidates' wives.

"Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white First Lady?" he asked the crowd. "Too soon, right?"

The Obama for America crowd had a good laugh, but Gingrich did not. On Tuesday the former House Speaker fired back at De Niro, dismissing him as a shortsighted Hollywood actor who "probably doesn't notice the price of gasoline."

"I do want to say one thing, both on behalf of my wife and on behalf of Karen Santorum and on behalf of Ann Romney, I think that Robert De Niro's wrong," he said. "I think the country is ready for a new first lady and he doesn't have to describe it in racial terms."

Team Obama reacted to Gingrich's comments Tuesday with a short statement.

"We believe the joke was inappropriate," said FLOTUS campaign spokesperson Olivia Alair."

Personally, it doesn't bother me. It doesn't offend me. However, I can see why Republican Newt Gingrich finds it "racist". The Republicans are for equality in everyone. That's the problem I think people have with them. Some people feel they are special and they don't want to be treated like they pull their pants up the same way everyone else does. It does look like a double standard... and at the same time, I find it a little funny given all the hoopla about race.

Honkey, yes I think so, I don't understand cracker in that context.

There is an unpleasant term sometimes used here - wigger, I suppose it's a bit like the white version of Uncle Tom, which refers to white people acting as though they are black. BBC Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood has been called that, which may also be racist since it's purely because he plays a lot of music of black origin.

None of this stuff is set in stone and there will always be an argument about what is and isn't racist.
