Public Restroom Laws

Postby Mac » Mon Sep 11, 2006 4:10 am

I have frequently seen women enter the men's public restroom when there is a long line for the women's restroom. However, the other day a man (dressed as a man) came into the women's restroom, entered a stall, sat down (at least he was courteous enough to sit and not stand), used the toilet, exited the stall, washed his hands and left the restroom as though it was the normal thing to do.

Do any countries, states or cities have laws regarding the use of public restrooms? If so, what is the law and location. Also, what is the penalty for violating the law.

I'm not sure what the legal position on that sort of thing is in the UK. However I suspect a lady who used the gents in emergency circumstances would be viewed rather more sympathetically than a man who used the ladies room - whether in an emergency or not.

One thing I can tell you is that councils and local authorities are under no statutory obligation to provide public toilets. Their provision is purely a matter of grace and favour, with the result that when councils want to cut costs the first amenities they target are public toilets. Nationally I think there are only about half the number of public loos there were a decade ago. I suspect though that some councils are waking up, albeit slowly, to the fact that closing public toilets in busy city centres, especially at night, is a false economy. The corrosive effects of uric acid on public buldings are well enough known to the world.

I think that it is wrong for a girl to use a males public rest room because if we were to do the same thing they would consider us a pervert and may take legal action if it is a bathroom with one toilet and a locking door I think that it is ok but to be able to go into a bathroom with other people of the opisset sex is just wrong and personally I think it is more wrong for the girls to do it because they have their own stall and we have alot of urinals any girl could just watch you pee :) but the girls restrooms are so much more privite so shouldn't it be the other way around

I would support the concept of multi-user unisex public restrooms with private stalls for all users (no open urinals). This would assure equal status for everybody: equal lines and waiting times; equal quantity of stalls; etc.

But a guy needs a urinal when out in public. He can't always rely on a perfect aim - especially after a few pints!

He can always sit - which he should do anyway! It is not nice to splash as it is an inconvenience for others.

I think that some of the reason why it is seen as less ok for a man to go into a ladies toilet than a woman to go into a mens is because of the differnt ways men and wemen are veiwed sexually. Men are genrally dominat in sexual relations and thefore a man going into the ladies is seen as much more of a physical threst than a lady going into the mens. This may be because females are seen as passive (i.e. they are less lickly to r**** than males). Same sort of reasons that lesbianism is (or was) seen as less of a threst than male gayness. However my male gay friend always comes into the ladies and no one seams to mind. As for females being passive.... the people who thought that had obviosly never met my 'friend' lara.......:)

That may be your position on the issue. However, my guy has sat full time for the past 10 years (he has not stood to pee even once in that time) and says that it is much better than standing. He is more relaxed and able to more fully empty his bladder. He does not get splash spots on his trousers or get the last spurt in them. He said that he will never go back to standing.

Also, I wouldn't have any objection to unisex public restrooms if the stalls offered adequate privacy and there was no open urinals.

Ok you dont know me...[i am not being hostile here or anything]...i dont generalise seriously as i am opposed to it. I was joking, i have gone to camps where it was mostly girls thus i had to sit down and i have no problems with it...i was bored when i stated that...

I am still in favor of multi-user unisex public restrooms.
