Long Hair

Postby Yamaharley_UK » Sat Aug 21, 2010 1:07 pm

My daughter’s wedding is coming up soon. It has a “Victorian” theme, which is fine (we’ve got clothes from a theatrical costumier) but as a male with long hair, what shall I do with it? No, cutting it off isn’t an option! It’s pretty long, about six inches below my shoulders (mid-back length) and fairly straight. And ideas, guys and gals?

Victorian men wore their hair short, so not a lot you can do unless you can sweep it round the front and call it a beard. Beards were popular.

You could always wear a dress, long hair was popular with women and dresses. Victorian transvestites were not unknown and not ridiculed like modern times. Check with your daughter first :-)

Otherwise I'd suggest a tight pony tail. Not unknown with merchant adventures especially if they were involved with the sea trade routes even into Victorian times.

Years ago, I had a close friend who was hired to play guitar in a campy, retro '50s rock & roll band (think: Sha Na Na). He had really long hair at the time, down to mid-back, and of course this was not appopriate for the era the band was trying to recreate. In other words, they wanted him to look like a 1950s "greaser". As with you, cutting it off wasn't an option, so before every show he would get his girlfriend (or me) to put it in a tight braid and tuck it into the back of his shirt. Then he would slick the front back into a kind of greasy pompadour with some industrial-strength hair product and presto! Instant 50s hairdo.

Mind you, all he really had to do was stand still on stage and play guitar (most of the antics being performed by the lead singers), which means that it was unlikely his braid would pop out. You, of course, would be moving about more, turning your head, etc. so this may not work for long, but you could try it out for, say, an afternoon and see how it goes. (skip the greasy pompadour, though!)

Just a thought... :?

Thanks for the advice. Think I'll avoid the TV thing so as not to scare off the groom! My wife suggested a plait (braid) as probably the most suitable. it would look okay in the pix at least. It's going to be a kind of wierd gig, anyhow.

I too think plait is the best option
why not try it.

Here are a couple of ideas from another long haired guy that should look real good for a wedding. You could have it done in ringlets, and that would look nice for a victorian wedding, and it would shorten it a little without having to cut it. My other idea is you could have it cut into a layered bob, which is what I have myself this summer. The bob is a very versatile cut, that looks great on guys and gals, and it can be styled many ways. Good luck

Victorian gentlemen. well layered short back and sides, slightly longer on top, for a formal look go with a side parting, for more rugged bebbelish victorian go with middle parting. i think.

You can just wear a wig or just simply pulled up your hair. I think when they said that its victorian theme I think they really pertain to the dress.

Hello
For the long hair it is necessary for everyone to use the fish oil for the shining and growth even for the long shape at least 6-month.
