As someone who does swim training 7 days a week for an hour a day, who is also a vegan and lives a very healthy lifestyle I have to dissagree. Some peoples body chemsty just doesnt aggree with synthetic hormones, mine doesnt.

I have put on 15kgs of body fat - not lean muscle mass, since having the implanon inserted and my doctors all aggree that implanon is the cause. Im having mine removed in 2 weeks time.

Sure some people just need to move a little more and eat a little more fresh fruit and veg, but sometimes the 'fix' for weight gain and obesity isnt all that easy.

Implant

Postby katieboo » Fri Apr 13, 2007 10:47 am

Hi

I had my implant put in in Jan 2005, at first everything was fine but after a few months i started to feel depressed and would get moody for no reason. I used to just burst into tears over nothing in particular and this would happen at random times of the day and night! I eventually went back to see my doctor in April 2006 and she managed to persuade me to give it another try. So i did and things seemed to settle down a bit but i still felt depressed and moody alot of the time.

I didnt have any problems with weight gain i actaully lost weight but that was mainly down to a change in my diet, and i too didnt really have any periods just the odd one here and there, nothing major tho.

I got my implat removed nearly two weeks ago now and am just waiting to see how long it takes my body to return back to "normal" whatever that is.

Implanon

Postby katieboo » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:32 pm

I have had my Implanon since December 2004 and have had only one short bleed. I have broke out in severe acne though!
I dont know if this is related to the implant? I bleed once when i started Roaccutane for my acne and it lasted for 3 weeks. Apart from that ive had no problems with it. Im due to have it taken in 6 months, although my partner and i have discussed removal in the summer. We are getting married and are going to let nature take its course! :P

ive had my implant in for just under 2 years now , ive suffered massive weight gain! (3 stone since it was put in!) plus acne and nausea! but on the plus side ive only had about 4 periods in a year and a half! but i am looking to have mine removed as the weight gain is making me a bit depressed as no matter how much exercise i do or how well i eat it wont shift! as im the only person i know who has one of these i have no one to talk to about it! does any one know do you have to go to your gp to get it removed does anyone know? as i would rather have a monthly period than be a fattie! lol!

Implant removal

Postby ClaireBearLovesU » Tue May 01, 2007 10:24 pm

I had the implant inserted yesterday. The area is sore and bruised as I had expected. I just really want to know the procedure for removal. No one had really explained it! I know it is 3 years away but I am dreading it! I am also, perhaps even more so, the three years i have ahead of me! It is obvious the implant doesn't agree with everyone, I hope i am not as unlucky as some of the women here. My heart goes out to ye.

I was on the pill, 2 years ago and I lost weight, but suffered mild depression that I did blame on the pill, this did occur the same time as a bad break up, he was the "love of my life" I was a stupid 18 year old!!! I did suffer mild depression before too. Having said that, I decided after one day after a really bad night to go off the pill and my mood changed quickly afterwards, I still do suffer from depression but thats my own and not caused by any extra hormones. Unfortunately after coming off the pill I gained weight, weight I still cant get rid off!!! My bad!!!

I really hope I don't have any problems with this, if i become depressed and/or gain weight I actually think it is just me, not the implant. I do suffer from cramps and heavy periods and I am really hoping that will be helped. The doctor and nurses assured me they havn't heard of any bad reactions, some of my friends have it done and they couldn't be happier! I'll have to wait and see! Honestly I think a baby is worse than the side affects. I really don't want to have children.

Hi, I had my implant put in about 2 or 3 weeks ago. A few days ago I noticed that the lower half of one of my legs felt slightly pressured. Now the whole of the lower leg feels under pressure. Has that happened to anyone else? I'm not sure if I should go back to the doctor :(

I got the implant in last year, 25th may, and I havnt had a period since. But the bloating I have is crazy and Iv put on at least just under two stone. And I havnt changed my diet at all, and I walk everywhere (as I can't drive) so Im fit. I can't say anything about the deppression as I've been depressed since I was 14. I hate the way I look now Im just not comfortable in clothes anymore and my face has rounded like nothing else and the spots that have sprouted around my mouth (which is caused my premestrual symtoms) is just crazy and I never got spots before even being 18.
I want it out but the seem so reluctant to do it.

I had the implant fitted in December 2005, had it removed on 9th May - 2 days ago!

I was told before and during the "fitting" that I wouldn't get a period, certainly in the first year as the level of hormone is higher, but there was a chance I'd bleed in the second year. I bled within a week of it being fitted and that first week was the heaviest bleed I'd ever had. Things did settle down for the best part of a year but was replaced with a strong urge to vomit roughly once a month (though I never did). In the leaflet I was given it said to go back to the surgery in 3 months if I wasn't happy but I chose to stick it out.

I gained nearly 3 stone in weight over the last 8 months or so of using the implant. I've never been the healthiest of eaters but thought that was a wee bit excessive and the gain in weight was the main reason for me having it removed.

For those of you that are having trouble convincing your doctor to remove the implant, your doctor should have made you aware that most practice nurses are fully qualified, and quite capable, to do this. I called the doctors surgery on Wednesday and asked for an appoint with the nurse to remove the contraceptive implant - and was given an appointment for 2.30pm same day! Its really not painful at all and you'll be given a local anaesthetic - despite any rumours that you won't!

Also, for those of you asking about fertility, it stated on the leaflet within the packet that your body will adjust to its "normal" levels of fertility within 24 hours. I'm guessing it would be different for everyone, but would believe that to be pretty accurate. It should also be noted that sperm will live within your body for up to 5 days - so make sure to be careful!! I'd use condoms one week before and one week after if you're not trying for a family!!!!

IMPLANON OVER 3 YEARS

Postby CHRISY35 » Mon May 21, 2007 7:07 pm

 I HAD THE INPLANON PUT IN 3 YEARS AGO.IT'S COMING UP FOR MY REMOVAL DATE ON THE 1 JUNE,I HAD SOME OF THE SIDE AFFECTS.THE SPOTS ,THE PAINFULL BREASTS ,THE HEADACHES ,THE WEIGHT GAIN WHICH HAS MAD ME FEEL HUGE.BUT I STUCK IT THROUGH AND NOW THE TIME HAS COME FOR IT TO BE REMOVED.
THE ONLY MAJOR PROBLEM I HAVE HAD IS THAT WHEN I RANG THE DOCTORS TO GET A REMOVAL APPOINTMENT THEY COULD ONLY GIVE ME 27TH JUNE.
SO NOW MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND ARE CONCERNED AS WE WANT TO TRY FOR A BABY AND THE IMPLANT WILL BE OVER DUE FOR BEING REMOVED.
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I GET COUGHT PREGNANT WOULD THEY STILL REMOVE THE IMPLANT UNDER A LOCAL.

Im getting d implanon probably next week when i get my period.i was on the pill three times before and i got most of the side effects and stopped taking it.I was on yasmin the last time and I put on nearly a stone in weight on it and within two weeks of coming off it I lost it.Im afraid that ill put on weight on the implanon and I would get it taken out if i put on any.Ive seen on some posts that it made some people hungry, can it be stopped by resisting the extra hunger and by eating healthy and exercising regulary or is there nothing you can do?

IMPLANON REMOVAL

Postby GUESTANDREA » Tue May 29, 2007 4:22 pm

Ive just had my implant out 5 days ago. as i had fallen pregnant whilst taking the pill, and me and my partner both decided that a termination would be our best option last october 18th. on the day of the termination, i had the implant fitted straight away and for the first three days felt absolutely fine, but all of a sudden, i got extremely anxious, and extremely worried all of the time. i went back to the doctor after about a month and explained that i had been feeling worried all the time and not only that, my period had barely stopped since having it and she told me to give it a chance and everything should settle down after about 3 months. but 7 months later, i had it removed. ive become depressed and quite nasty and couldnt help but blame the implant. i constantly had my period, and in 7 months, the longest break i had was just under 3 weeks, but as the months past i realised i was too emotional and didnt feel myself at all. perhaps it isnt related to the implant, but i thought it was be best for my sanity if i had it removed, and i have instantly felt relief since havin it out, im still on now tho (which has been a three week period) but knowing that i am soon going to be in control of my emotions again is fantastic, heres hoping :)

THE REASON THEY WONT TAKE IT OUT ALSO IS BECAUSE THE IMPLANT COSTS AROUND £100 AND THERE ARE SHORTAGES. PEOPLE HAVE TO BE PUT ON A WAITING LIST. BUT APPARENTLY THE IMPLANT IS 99.9% EFFECTIVE, GUTTED IT DIDNT WORK OUT FOR ME XX
