Horrible lip peeling. help!!

Postby threshhold121 » Tue Nov 08, 2005 9:57 am

I am 14 and for 1 year now i have had morbid peeling of my lips. It just started one day out of the blue, i have never had dry or cracked lips in my life. This peeling is not caused by dry or licking of the lips, but the entire layer on both my lips will peel right off, with minium bleeding, then once a new layer starts to grow, it doesnt seem to stay atatched to my lip and peels right off again, and this happens every day. I have tried numerous lips balms and treatments that dermatoligists have told me to use. and i dont have any std's or any other symtptons such as white lips or pussing, no red bumps etc...none of that. just the peeling and the bleeding and soreness. There is no inflamation really. but the skin will just not stay on my lips!! i am healthy and in shap, with a good organic diet. Can any doc help me out? thanks alot.

MYfriend posted this and she was talking about the lips on her face!! Some stds can infect your face, like sores and breakouts and such, but like she said, she tested negative for the stds.

Cracked lips are generally a sign of poor diet (ie, not enough green vegetables and vitamin c especially). It's also a sign of dehydration - encourage your friend to drink a minimum of 8 large glasses of water a day - more if she can stomach it. Also to up her intake of fruit and green veg.
She would also benefit from investing in(or ask her mum to buy her)some multivitamins - check for ones that contain 100% daily recommended allowance of Vitamin C, Zinc, Iron especially.
Vitamin E moiturisers can help your skin too, but your main issue will be water and diet.

Also try carrying one of those little handy tins of Vaseline around with you - the green one with Aloe Vera is especially good for healing chapped lips. Try not to chew the lips or skin generally!

Peeling Lips

Postby Deima » Fri Jan 11, 2008 8:05 pm

Resolution! I found something very good!
After MANY YEARS of peeling and biting my lips I decided it's time to stop. I have been reading a lot of "lip peeling" forums lately trying to figure out best solutions. First I was ready to see a dermatologist, then I was planing to buy steroid creams and such, but before that I decided to try something simple and cheap. And VOILA! This is my fourth day without peeling lips!!!:D I I am very excited and hope it will last! The remedy: Blistex Lip Medex. You can find it in any pharmacy stores. Here is the link so you can take a look at it: http://www.blistex.com/Lip%20Medex.htm . It is absolutely the best thing I have ever tried! I bought it four days ago and applied to my cracked, half-peeled, sore lips. Few minutes later lips felt wonderfully soft and hydrated. I applied it a few times more later that evening and just before going to bed. When I woke up next day - my lips were wonderful and smooth! No peeling, no flaking, no inflammation - NOTHING!
So, the key is - apply a thin layer on dry lips, whenever you feel they are getting dry or scratchy, or after eating. TRY not to lick or touch them. Let the skin heel properly and you will see what I am talking about!:D Like I said - it's my fourth day with great looking, soft and KISSABLE lips!:) Keep doing that and maybe the problem will go away completely. Good luck!

Go and see a doctor would as soon as you can. A course of antibiotics may be all it takes to cure you.

peeling skin!! HELP

Postby anonymous38 » Wed Mar 05, 2008 2:02 am

stupidpatheticgirl- i have the EXACT same symptoms! I gave oral sex to a guy that I barely knew and two days later my mouth and the skin around my mouth is dry and peeling. I've been worried that it is an STD but can't find any STD symptoms with dry skin.

Please let me know or private message me if you are suddenly cured, if you get any info from a doctor, or if you hear anything else!

answers!

Postby anonymous38 » Wed Mar 05, 2008 4:26 pm

so I spoke to my doctor, concerned it was some sort of STD or fungal infection on my face...and she sort of put that to rest because I would have sores or blisters around my mouth if it was herpes. Then she brought up the fact that her husband sometimes doesn't shave and it makes her skin dry...and even a 5:00 shadow, if you're making out with a boy, can really irritate your skin. This was the problem for me, though the problem was definitely exacerbated by Boston's dry winter air.
This seems SO simple and I didn't even think about it, but it seems like a very viable solution :D

Good luck with your problem, I hope that can help you too!

Peeling Lips

Postby santacruz » Tue Apr 22, 2008 4:03 am

I was googling the symptom for peeling lips when I came across this forum. I too have been having severely chapped and peeling lips and I don't know why. I recently moved to Santa Cruz from a dryer climate (Tahoe) and have this symptom continually after about a few weeks of being here. And no it's not an STD. My friends keeping suggesting it's dehydration, but it's very strange. It almost seems like they are peeling from an irritant that stems more from the inside than the outside. If anyone finds a reason I would be happy to know too. I have never had this problem until a few months ago.

I have this problem, too. Someone said that being the pill can cause dry lips. Mine peel pretty much everyday, and it drives me crazy. They don't feel chapped or look reddish. Just build up a thick layer of dead skin that starts to peel. I try to drink a lot of water, but it doesn't make it go away completely. I found a good lip care product, though, but can't vouch for its long term effectiveness, since I've only used it two days.

Himalaya brand Organique Lip Care (soothing lotus flower). I used it the last two days, and this morning when I woke up, my mouth was dry as usual, but my lips were not covered with tough dry skin that would start peeling. You can find their website pretty easily _, and it is inexpensive. EVERY other product I have tried has been zero percent effective, but at least this one worked at least at the beginning.
