Explaining masterbation to my daughter

My daughter is 11 and we have a good and close relationship. She recently asked me about the things in my bedroom drawer (my toys - obv). I told her they were for when i masterbated and i gave her a brief description of masterbation, and why we do it. She has since told me she has tried it herself but feels she is doing it wrong. The point of this thread is :

1. Am i breaking the law if i show her how and techniques???

2. How did other mums tackle this with their girls, and at what age?

Personally, i think it would be best to show her and let her learn the right way as i dont want her getting hung up about doing it wrong (as she sees it).

Personally I would want to masterbate in front of her as its a very personal and private thing,I would try and show her via the internet or a dvd.
There is a site called the lovers guide which explains masterbation in a nice way,and they also do a dvd..
Or maybe trying a teen sex-education site may the way to go.
But onething I would encourage is that you both still comunicate to each other,and that she finds out her own way because there is not a right or wrong way of doing it,its whatever is right for you/her.

Hi, Im not sure showing your daughter how to masterbate would be the way to do it,
I explained to my two daughters that it was quite normal for boys?girls to play with themselves,
I also got diagrams of the vagina and showed them as many of the spots to touch, also told them that boys when they reach a certain age that they would play with themselves, and that girls and women I.E were not satisfied by ordinary sex that they either used toys or their fingers to climax,
and to try different ways, but also to keep what they do private or at least until they were in a good relationship, love Sally

Showing your child how to masterbate is probablygoing over the top. If your talking about masterbating in fornt of your child that is illegal, exposing your child to sexually explicit material is also illegal, regardless of it's intention to educate. Obviously, masterbating your child directly would be an offence too and likely result in you going to prison and being placed on the sex offenders register, possibly for life.

I'm not usre what you meant by 'showing' her but I hope that those options were not what you were thinking about.

Masturbation is perfectly normal and natural for peri-pubescant children to engage in and perhaps the extent of your involvement in your child developing sexuality should not go any further than letting her know that for now. Explaining masterbation techniques to an 11 year old child is too advanced and shold be reserved for older children in thier teens.

Explain to her that it is something that is perfectly healthy and normal and that it is something that she should enjoy exploring for herself in private.

I think your could explain how without actually showing her.

I would have thought it would be better to explain to her (as she is just 11) that Masturbation is a healthy thing that people do, that its something you do in private. I understand that you dont want to make her feel like she shouldnt do it, but Im not sure if its really that appropriate to teach her per say. It might be best to explain that there isnt a "wrong" way off doing it and she will discover it for herself when she's ready and that its part of growing up.

You may off course need to brace yourself for the moment she decides to share her knowledge of masterbation with her grandparents, ahh how children have the capacity to make all adults blush and want to run from the room in fear.

My two daughters are older now, but I showed them both how to masterbate. I even went out and got them vibrators. They were only 10 at the time. I would say go ahead. They will thank you.
