Few questions about distant future.

Postby WonderingTeenager » Tue Dec 30, 2008 6:15 am

I'm in a relationship. I met this person since grade 9. And we are now starting to date, me being grade 12 and her being first year university. It's awesome. She's a very amazing person. She wants to become a doctor. As do I. I''m just curious, I probably shouldn't even be thinking about this right now. But, lets say we do end up getting married. After Medical School and all. What will happen if we have kids? Like, lets say both of us don't want to quit our jobs. Which we probably would both not want to. Like I don't want it to happen that, I don't get home until 5pmish, and then spend time with the kids. Like when they are younger, ages 1-6. To me, that is very, very crue. Leaving them with another person. Even though that person would be a very good relative or a very very good friend. I don't know too much about this kind of stuff. This could potentially hurt the child in the long run, leaving him starved for attention as he gets older, causing him to possibly dislike his parents very much. If we get back at 5pmish, that does leave enough time to give the child attention, but what about throughout the day. As I said earlier, I probably shouldn't be thinking about this right now, but I want to get a general idea on what to prepare for. Always came here seeking help, and always got it :)

Regards,
Help Seeker.

You are thinking far too ahead.

If you want medical training, you'll have to study in the UK. The medical schooling in the U.S is a complete joke. (Source: My wife, GP and university tutor.) They can't even teach students basics such as foreskins, instead they teach them to chop them off.

You have years before you need to concern yourself with such matters.

Still... What's going to happen then lol... Meh I guess it will solve it by itself. I'm going for P.hD, then take courses that allow me to give medicine. Neuropsychologist.

Really? I don't think so.

If you did that here you would have to have: B.A/BSc, M.A/MSc, PhD and then a MB BS. (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). Somehow I don't think you'll be doing that.

The U.S system is pathetic - much like the entire nation - so I really wouldn't bother. I thought it was a doctor's duty to save lives (as it is here) not to turn children away and let them die because they have no insurance and need $5 of antibiotics. You want to be a doctor that does that do you?

I hope not. If you do - shame on you.

First off, I live in Canada. I'm not going the MD route. Don't want to. The way I listed, I found on the internet. And I know doctors, I think get 60 dollars per patient, so they try to move you fast. I was told this by someone. You would think the Medical care in the states would be good, since they get a lot of money. Not free medical care there. But if I do become a doctor, I guess doctor of the brain, it would be for everyone. Child, teenager, adult. I don't limit it to a certain age range.

Edit: can't edit my original post. If you think that all doctors do that. Your dead wrong. Sure, some are there for the money. But I know people who will become doctors for people. Not just for the money.

If you are Canadian then fair enough. Your system is like ours.

American doctors are only in it for the money.
