Re: Marvelon???

Postby cazzalina » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:24 pm

Hi, I'm 25. I've been on marvelon for years. I have just been advised to come off it by my doctor because I'v had bad nausea, migraines, mood swings, feeling like the world was going to end, crying for no reason, weight gain, lethargy, taking offense to the slightest little thing. I have been a nightmare. I had always had these symptoms, i just had never put them all together. I only noticed because my migraines got so bad i was missing days off work. I decided to keep a record of what I was getting when. Then I realised that for 3 weeks of the month I was feeling unwell. I'd always had these syptoms, i had them for so long i convinced myself they were normal. They've definately got worse over the years and now its totally unmanageable.
Ihave to go back to docs in 3 weeks to see if I've improved. I did wonder if I had PMS but after reading what all you ladies have written, I'm quite convinced its my marvelon. We shall see.
My advice to anyone out there, monitor yourself if you start taking something. any problems at all, go back to the drs!

Wow... I had no idea. I've been on and off antidepressants for years, since I started my first BC (depo provera) at 16... I went off the antidepressants and depo at the same time, i was fine, lost 60 lbs (all of which i had gained from the BC & antidepressants), and was feeling great. Started taking marvelon 21, then things just went down hill... Gained 25 of those 60 lbs back, feeling like I need antidepressants again, working out 5 days per week eating the same amount as my 5 year old nephew and STILL gaining. This isn't normal!!

Thank you all... I've been crying uncontrollably, always feeling depressed, like a worthless piece of you-know-what - you know, the weight gain on the BCP isn't just hormonal, its probably also from the depression.

Since I was 16, I haven't felt as normal as I did this past summer... I was happy, confident, and it even affected my career - I was making money hand over fist. When you're self employed, that's AWESOME!

But since like September, it's all stopped... Which oddly enough is about 4 months after I started Marvelon. I moved in with the love of my life, my career was taking off, we're looking at getting married and buying a house, and I was happier in the summertime when our relationship was a bit rocky - I couldn't understand why, but now I know.

I'm coming off the BCP, and switching to a non-hormonal BC method asap... No more drugs! None! I don't want antidepressants, no more BCPs, not even Advil and Tylenol unless I really need it (and I've had horrible migraines since starting Marvelon, so it's no wonder I'm having to take a lot).

I wish there was more education out as far as what BCPs do to you. If I'd known all this, I probably wouldn't have started...

No more Marvelon!!!!

Postby ski » Tue Feb 24, 2009 7:32 pm

I came off Marvelon on 1st october08 so my last period was in september i am still waiting to have a period and its now end of feb! I have done lots of pregnancy tests to make sure thats not the reason as i am not trying for a baby. I have developed acne on my face and back and a little on my chest it is so frustrating as i am determined to stay off the pill but looking like i do at the moment is very bad for my selfconfidence. I wanted to know how long it has taken others to get their first natural period and if they are suffering with bad skin and also whether i should visit my GP.

16 year old on marvalon - I always get breakthrough/spotting on marvalon, esp if i miss a pill - maybe that's my own fault, but i've been on lots of different pills and its never really been a problem before. this is actually why i googled it and found this forum in the 1st place - think i might go back to my gp and ask to change. there's loads of them and your gp should be happy to let you experiment!

so relieved to have seen on here that i'm not alone in having experienced mood swings and low libido on marvalon. can't remember exactly when i changed to it, sometime in 2008, and i've always linked my weird emotions to life changes like finishing uni, but i think its def always worth a try changing. going to try keeping a mood diary as well. you never know!

keep us updated everyone x

Re: Marvelon???

Postby Dianette4ever » Tue Mar 17, 2009 7:13 pm

I was on Dianette for about 5 years longer than I should have been. A non-smoking, sporty vegetarian, it really was my only vice, and I'd have stayed on it forever had my doctor not said enough is enough. I switched to Marvelon and, yes, my sex drive plumetted, as well as getting an immediate spotting or period if I delayed taking the pill by a few hours. I came off the pill altogether, for the first time in about ten years, and have no regrets! Well, no regrets apart from the fact that my boyfriend does NOT get on well with condoms, and the whole 'pulling out' method has caught out a number of my friends (it's not worth it). So now I'm reassessing the whole contraception game, and am thinking about... an intrauterus device (coil). Does anyone have any advice?

Re: Marvelon???

Postby Guest » Thu Mar 26, 2009 9:34 pm

I am 18 years old and I am now on my third type of birth control. I was first on Micronor (started april 08) a progestron only mini pill because i had ridiculously long periods and migranes. Next i switched to Alesse (nov 08) because i was experiencing brutal cramps and no change in my period as well my periods being very unpredictable. The about a month ago I switched to Marvelon. I am in my period week right now on my 5 placebo pill and still no period. I normally get a period on the 4th day of placebo pills (i did that with alesse). Has anyone ever experienced this? Also with Alesse i noticed a complete lack of sex drive which really hasnt improved with marvelon. is the only way to fix that going off it?

I am currently taking marvelon. I have for about a year and a half, I get bad cramps with it even though I never had them before taking it. I was looking at getting off it at about the beggining of june because i'd like to try and conceive in a few months, I was just wondering if getting off it would give me irregular periods like i had before and how long it would take for my body to start releasing eggs again and such.

Hi!

I'm 21 and have been on birth control since I was about 14 I started using the pill as a way to deal with my severe cramps. The first type I used was I think Alesse I was on that for about a year then the cramps came back. Then Tri Cyclin for about 2 years then the camps came back. Then I was on Tricyclin lo (great pill no side effects for me at all) for about 3 years in the last few months the cramping has returned nothing to severe but enough to notice. I just switched to Marvelon a couple of weeks ago and so far no side effects no weight gain and no cup size increase. No mood swings nothing. I haven't taken the week off yet though as its only been 2 weeks but I'm not complaining.

Hey all...

Just wondering if anyone else had the same problems as me as its really getting me down...

Back in january I got all the signs of thrush, itchyness, horrible discharge and just genrally a lot of discomfort. This has happened every month since, however, I only get these symptoms 10-7 days before my period. I come on, and then it goes.

I was on Microgynon 30 for years, came off it and went back on, since around the time I went back on it, I've ben getting these symptoms, I'm now on Marvelon, I'm only in the first week of taking it and I still have this problem.

Anyone else had this or have any other ideas? I've been tested for thrush, STD's and unusual bacteria- all negitive.

Thanks, please reply if you can help, its been going on for 5 months now..

x

I'm experiencing a lot of the same problems as you all are, glad I'm not alone, but thinking if we're all in the same boat that's not that great either... One other thing I should mention, I'm on implanon as well. After 2 years of having it in, I started to experience 3 weeks of heavy bleeding at a time, normally prompted by sex, so the doc prescribed me Marvelon.

I've had almost constant thrush for a long time now, my weight has fluctuated (but I think that's more to do with my food:exercise ratio!), my skin is clearing up with Marvelon, but it's completely killed my libido. The few times I haven't been bleeding and we managed to have sex, it would hurt when my boyfriend enters me. Now I'm not being crude, but he's not the biggest, and I'm not the tightest, normally we have no problem. But recently, it's been horrendous. Since coming onto Marvelon as well as implanon, my libido has completely disappeared. I've gone from being a highly sexed person to a 20 year old woman who's practically a-sexual. I thought it was because I was scared of the pain, but after reading some of this, I think it might be linked to Marvelon.

Messing with my body so much and putting all this extra estrogen in can't be good for it, I would really like to just let my body go back to normal and do things the 'old fashioned' way!

I was on Marvelon for years - I came off it six months ago to try to conceive and have been amazed to find I have a healthy libido! I had imagined when after a year or so with my husband my libido waned, it was just one of those things, but needless to say, it put a lot of pressure on our relationship at times.

Now I'm just so angry that for the last seven years I could have been having a great time in bed and a better relationship with my husband, instead of it being a thorny area. This is not a trivial matter - I know many people whose relationships have failed because of one partner's low libido, almost invariably the woman's, almost invariably on the pill. It strikes right to the heart of relationships between men and women, and doctors should warn you about this when you start taking it.

My advice to other women? Do NOT take Marvelon if you want a healthy sex life.

Hey Ladies,

I've seriously been a lab rat when it comes to bcp!! In the span of 3 years, I was placed on nearly every pill out there, with ever single one causing side effects, even after 3 months of use (weight gain, break out bleeding, acne, cramps....everything!). The docs thought I may have had an absorption problem, so I was placed on the bc patch. What a disaster!! I gained 15 lbs in less then 2 weeks!! I was then placed on Diane-35, which is intended for acne, but apparently the high dose of estrogen was what my body needed. All was good for 3 yrs until 5 months ago when I started to experience mild yeast infection symptoms before and after my periods. These symptoms got worst with each period. My doctor finally decided to get my off of Diane-35 (not good to take any ways because of the high dose in the pill), and on to Marvelon. I've been on Marvelon before, but can't remember what I experienced. I'm now 2 months into the pill, with 10lbs of more weight that I can't seem to shed, even with diet and loads of exercise. I've always been really fit, so this is very troublesome for me. I think I may switch back to Diane-35...errr!!!
