Yes, as a man, i agree with the bold bit some men do feel threatened. However there are a large number of men who also know nothing about cars, but that doesn't stop them spouting off.

I used to do technical sales and standing round listening to all the salesmen spouting off about their company cars used to make me laugh, none of them seemed to know anything about the actual cars it was all about GTi this and CDi that.

princess22 wrote:I think everyone who drives should at least understand the basics about how a car runs. If you don't you won't know if the car is doing anything weird which could lead to breakdowns. possibly in an unsafe place. As a girl you have to look out for yourself

It is amazing how many people don't seem to know anything, even why oil and water is needed. Everybody who drives should know basic checks and what to look out for, my gf had never checked the pressure on her spare type in two years needless to say it was flat. I know she would just call the RAC but all the same it should be checked.

Reading through this thread reminds me of when I bought my first car. I went to the car yard with a male friend to check out a car I had seen there. The salesman completely ignored me until it became obvious to him that I was the one who was buying a car………..

Seems men have a lot of accidents or near accidents involving women. Despite that they always think it's the womans fault, just for being there I suppose!

Amanda, those drivers were making turns out of center lanes. Drifting over lane markers, and one ran a red light!!! Certainly not my fault, as I can't force them to turn properly out of the correct lane, or how to keep their vehicle centered, or to pay attention to traffic signals. I'm not a complete misogynist, I do like women, I just wish insurabce underwriters would would reassess their methods, and take application of makeup, wiggling into pantyhose, smoking and talking on the cell phone (sometimes all at the same time....true story!) when they say women are safer than men. :lol:

When you are talking about men v women drivers, did you ever consider that:

most men think that they are far better drivers than they actually are, and;

if women were more dangerous behind the wheel, insurance companies would be charging us more..............

Fran, do you think it is a safe behavior to be talking on the mobile phone and running a red light?

If you are travelling in a center through lane, and some idiot turns left from the right curb lane, or right from the left curb lane....am I somehow supposed to believe she is a better driver than me? If roles were reversed, and you were in my shoes, you'd be cursing the dude out!

Add drifting over the painted lane markers, impeding the flow of traffic, applying makeup, and all the other stuff....I'm sorry, but I can't be sold on the concept when I witness the opposite everyday. Insurance companies make money with devious marketing ploys, and appealing to women's ego's get male customers through nagging and hen pecking tactics. It isn't that guys are worse drivers, its that we live shorter lives, and women are the cause! :lol: :lol:

Hi

Well I don't do any of those things you mentioned - well not when driving anyway. But you see plenty of men smoking, talking into their mobiles, fiddling with the radio etc. and I agree plenty of women too. I presume the insurance companies, which are not noted for their charity, simply charge women less because in general they make fewer or smaller claims. I agree there are good and bad drivers of both sexes.
