Hi,

I have followed the thread of posts for the years passed. I am a female car owner who is tired of being treated like I am worth less then men and feeling ripped off.

I am looking into starting my own garage and am looking for female and female friendly mechanics to help me make this idea come true. I am not a mechanic myself, I come from the business side, and highly respect all of you out there who are working hard to make your mark in a male dominated world. I am trying to learn some basics helping my bf working on our old beamer and love learning and getting dirty is only fun.

Please contact me if you are interested or know of anyone that might be! I am only in the beginning of the process but have a potential investor and really want to make this happen.

oh yeah and a race car as well!
gents are welcome as well
any age
we plan on building drag racers from the most unlikely cars
we have started on our first motor a 1980s volvo 340 its a brick which is why we chose it plans are big block v8 pumped to the max, mental wheels, mad cap paint job ect
this is a massive project and we want more help there is no pay this is for fun but hey your meet like minded people have a f'ing good laugh
so far psychos is me and my sister this is her baby she has the city and guilds in mechanics were in hampshire alton area

Why bother with a v8 it won't be much good if it does if in the engine bay on a 340 the 360's the best one to go with.sim shell.put a 2.0 early zetec or vauxhall twin cam xe pre ecotec.or similar and go drift racing.as the 3series volvo handles quite well and stiff shell.

I've always been interested in cars, am about 2/3 of the way through my diploma of motorsport at college too.
Includes all the basic mechanics and then goes on to teach us how to build a race car.

I've actually started already on my own, despite the fact the build is going so slowly (money limitations) it can be rather fun at times. I'm pretty much trying to make it a bit of an allrounder
Its a mitsubishi scorpion (dunno about england, might be called a plymouth sapporo or dodge challenger even.. or galant-lambda  )

So rear wheel drive coupe, but only a 4cyl from factory. I'm in the process of rebuilding the 2.6L motor and will be supercharging it and running a suck through carby setup.

The main goal is for drag racing.. I wanna make it wheelstand even just a little bit without altering weight distribution (which is cheating)
At the same time though I'm going to have the suspension set up so that it can drift quite comfortably.. and maybe enter a few sprints and hillclimb type races
It obviously wont be too fast around a track if its constantly sideways, but will be fun at least

And the best part is I'm going to do it all myself
Katie Potatie :)

If anyone had me on msn, I've switched emails so please update to the new one I have listed here.

I'm not sure about in England, but it's probably similar to what we have here - you have to complete both a course and serve an apprenticeship. Probably the best way to find out would be to contact your local Technical College (or whatever they are called in the UK).

Hello
I am a female mechanic, I done my city and guilds levels 1,2 and 3, nvq level1,2 and 3. I also done motorcycle mechanics 1 and 2. Welding city and guilds level 1,2 and 3 also vehicle spraying 1,2 and 3. I also won and best female working in the male envrioment in 1999. And i believe I was the first female in the uk to complete the vauxhall training programme.
I believe any female out there that wants to have a go a being a mechanic, do it....
Go to your local colleges and ask if they got a motor vehicle placement. If they have not ask if that is another college locally that do it, they are very helpful...
When I started my coarse I was the only girl with 60 lads... And they did not all think I should have been there... Be they got over it, and if they didn't well that was there problem... We were all there to learn... At the end of the 3 year city and guild there was only 8 of the 60 left and only 4 of us completed the level 3.
I have resently been told by the doctor that I had to give it all up... So I am now working as a service advisor... But I wish I was still on the spanners...
I was very lucky as my parents was very surportive of me beening a mechanic and from the age of 12 I was stripping down engines and my dad was out with his haynes manual helping me... I was never a very girly girl
