O/T Obama Health Care

Postby United Kingdom » Sat Jun 12, 2010 3:14 am

What is the problem? I am very unclear about how the US system works.

If I rock up to a hospital with a broken hip, how will I be treated? Please help me understand. Will I be turned away if I had not paid my health insurance?

What happens, and what is the difference under the new system, if any?

What is the change?

a) what was the previous system

b) what is the new system

I'm not exactly clear on what this new system does. However, I can tell you that I pay a sh*t ton of money for health insurance AND I pay a sh*t ton of money out of pocket. I'm in a big city, and the ER here is over-run with non-productive members of society who do not pay a single dime for health care; taxpayers pay for their health care, as well as for their food and clothes and general cost of living. So I'm not exactly sure how this new system is designed to help those who are actually productive & responsible.

You don't have the option of not opening/reading this thread? Or maybe it's confusing for you because the thread isn't clearly labeled 'off topic - health insurance'?

It's gov't-regulated to the extreme. It's not like what Britain has, it's not like what Canada has, or France, or even Cuba for that matter. It forces everyone to buy health insurance and if you can't buy health insurance (welfare recipient for example) you get a different kind of plan.

Mammograms will no longer be allowed to women under 50 even if they're high risk. Some patients will be forced to die at home whether they choose to or not. Some procedures are refused based on age or previous poor health.

Even though the plan doesn't take effect until 2013, businesses are now forced to purchase certain types of health care for their employees, which is putting financial strain on smaller to mid-sized businesses. As a result, many are closing, or purchasing poorer health insurance for their employees.

It's a lose-lose situation all around.

Oh, I see , Guest gets bitched at for saying the same thing LYNNIE said. WTF? Why not attack her too.

Jeez, nothing confuses me on a GOSSIP FORUM. Yes, GOSSIP, not POLITICAL. Politics are upstairs, Angelina/Brad, here, or is that confusing to you?

OP.

Thank you so much for alll your answers. Apologies that some are unhappy with the topic. I have the information now to research more by myself - it was just that last night my living room was full of people and the conversation turned to US health care and we knew that most Americans were unhappy with it but not one of us knew why.

I thought the best women to ask were right here on FF (naturally).

Thanks again.

Yes, I work for a small construction company, and as of June 1st, we went to a cheaper insurance, and now we have to pay a small percentage from each check to get the former benefits of our health insurance, if we want them. I was barely making ends meet with my check before, now I am seriously struggling, because I have to have some extras (well that are now considered extras) in my insurance coverage. This has, in turn, forced me to start job hunting, after being with this company for 15 yrs. They are small, so they are doing what they have to to survive themselves, and I do not blame them, I blame this new plan.

You know, I was going to post something snarky about how stupid you are, but then I started to feel sad that this propaganda was out there and that women believed it and felt scared.
If people don't like the idea of health care for everyone that's fine, but I wish they'd argue their case on the merits (I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about whoever you got you info from), instead of just making up lies to scare people. This is right up there with death panels.

The mammogram information seriously surprised and worried me. So, it's not true?

No. There was study that suggested younger women didn't need mammograms as often, but it had nothing to do with Obama's health care plan. Here's an article that explains in detail. http://www.associatedcontent.com/articl ... grams.html

Yes, it's true. The person arguing that it isn't true has probably not even read the health care plan and probably couldn't understand it if he/she did.

They are also going to limit services to those with pre-existing conditions (like Down Syndrome) and to the elderly.

Yes, the limited care to the elderly is, in fact true. People need to read it, and understand it.
