Hey Ill,

sorry to hear that you are not feeling too well still. I guess it takes a long time to recover from this nasty pill.

Just give it more time. Hopefully things will get better. Your body will start regulating itself eventually.

How much hair did you lose from Dianette? How long did your hair loss last for and most important.. did it grow back? Please let us know.

As for me.. I kind of had a break from itching on the scalp for almost two weeks, and it returned on Saturday. I am kind of bummed about that. I am still losing hair, but of course, not as much as the begining. When is this nightmare going to end? I feel as if my life is put on hold. Anyhow, I will keep updating on my progress.

Sorry if I'm repeating things someone else has already said, since there being 41 pages worth of replies, unfortunately it would take days to read them all! But i was wondering if anyone could help, and whether anyone had been through a similar situation and what happened with them in the end...

I have been on Dianette for about 6 months or so, and feel i am now in the brink of mild/severe depression. My mood goes up and down like you have no idea, and it took me to nearly breaking up with my boyfriend to realise that i was not the same person i was when i first started taking this pill. I went on Dianette because I had severe acne that was aggravated the week before and during my periods, and after taking the pill, this cleared up no problem, but after 2 months or so (i think, i thought i was fine, until actually thinking about it now.) i noticed there was a huge difference in my mood, i was irritated a lot, i picked arguments with people, especially boyfriend, who obviously didn't deserve it, and over the months its progressively gotten worse, i have a constant feeling of hopelessness, i feel anxious all the time, miserable for almost no reason, and to top it off paranoia. It took me to today to realise all of this, to realise that the way i was feeling and the way i was thinking was just not who i am, or who i ever was or have been until taking this contraception.

The past few months on dianette have been a struggle, one that i am only just realising that i was going through now, i have been more sick in the past 6 months than i am sure i have ever been in my whole life. I've had the cold at least 3 times, had an odd virus that stopped me keeping food down accompanied by swollen glands, a severly bad fever, and meant i felt weak and sick constantly. Later, I developed B.V, thrush and a severe UTI (one after the other), as well as weird eczema on the palms of my hands, according to my GP anyway, though this was something that was disregarded and through my own analysis can only assume it is caused by water/dry skin, my hands become very pruney, as if i have been in the bath for hours as opposed to being in the shower for mere minutes, and when dry the skin looks like it could peel off. Along with all these effects that i am going to assume are caused by Dianette, as i did not have any of them before starting the contraception, my breasts have swollen to nearly 2 cup sizes bigger.

My questions for you are, has anyone else had any of these effects having used Dianette? What happened when you came off it? Do your breasts go back to their previous size?

I am coming off this pill as of today, as these things are just not worth the spot free skin, and i regret ever going on it, however am shocked to hear that the pill is banned in america, and cant believe that the same has not happened in the UK, considering all the health risks and people who have obviously had adverse reactions to it.

I hope everyone posting here about it is getting better and that the original poster's conditions have improved!

Thanks for reading :)

Hi Playcrackthesky,

What you are experiencing is a total side effect of Diane 35( Dianette). Many women report being depressed because of this pill and in fact, even the manufacturer tells you that depression is a side effect. This pill is so high in estrogen that it will cause a lot of unwanted side effects. It is a dangerous pill and I advise you to get off it right away.

Your breast size will go back to normal once you stop the pill. I actually liked this side effect :)

I am almost a year off this pill. will be a year in two weeks and can you believe it, I am still suffereing. my scalp still tingles and itches and I still lose hair. I just cannot believe how thi spill destroyed my life,. I am also losing eye lashes. I heard many women go through that as well. I can only hope that this will stop soon. I cannot believe it took this long. I feel that my life was robbed from me . Thi spast year ahd been very painful. I will never want to remember going through this nightmare.

Anyhow, Hope you get off it, and hope all will go well for you. After 5 months of coming off and you will have no side effects, then you will be hope free. Withdrwal side effects usually happen anywhere from 1-4 months post stopping. For me, it happened almost 4 months after stopping.

Goodluck, and keep us posted,
Din

What to do?

Postby Kirsty90 » Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:51 pm

I'm 19 and was diagnosed with PCOS last year. Since having the contraceptive implant taken out I've been having problems with my periods, Only having them atleast 2 times a year.. If I'm lucky. I've been looking at pills I could take so I could have periods and came across this site. I actually was thinking about having Dianette but as I've heard all this I don't think I want to. Anyone know of any good medications I could take so I could start my periods? I appreciate all the ideas :)

kirsty90,

Stay away from all birth contro pills. They are awful. And especially stay away from this one.
You should see your doctor, but I think to bring on a period you can take progesteron or prometium for two weeks, then when you stop, you get a period, Again, your OBGYN will know about this,

Goodluck,

Hi DinDin!
That sounds awful, how long were you on dianette for? I've not really experienced anything to do with hair but when i think about it, its been really difficult to get it to grow any longer than it actually is, and is extremely brittle, but that was to do with the fact that it is coloured...

I am actually starting to feel better already, which is amazing! What are these with drawl symptoms you speak of?

I hope things get better for you soon anyway!

:)

Hi playcrackthesky,

I have been on this pill for 6 months. I got off because I gained a few pounds and didn't like the way I looked. I got off at the end of July 2009.

I kind of felt ok after getting off. I think I may have felt a little tired, but that could be also because maybe I was working too hard, etc..

At the end of November 2009, thats when the hair loss begin. They say it takes anywhere from 3 to 4 months since you stopped the pill to get the hair loss. This was a nightmare. This pill is known to cause hair loss when stopping. My hair shed rapidly for 8 weeks, then it stabilized, but is still shedding, even today. I also got the itchy tingly scalp that sometimes follows such a hairlos. There are many girls who this happen too. I hope that you will not be a victim as well. When did you get off? You ont know if you will be symptom free at least until you have passed the 4 months of being pill free. Good luck to you!!

DinDIn,

Wow that sounds scary! i really hope that doesn't happen to me, and have no idea how you've coped with it!
I was on it for about six months, perhaps less and only realised that the problem in my life wasn't that my boyfriend was rubbish, it was the pill making me miserable all the time, and caused pretty severe anxiety/stress/paranoia (my boyfriend is actually pretty amazing haha) I've only been off it for a couple days actually and feel a million times better, i feel like my old self again :) However, i have been feeling very fatigued, and a loss of appetite since, i'm not sure if this is a knock on effect from stopping the pill.

Hopefully in 4 months time i do not begin to lose my hair!

Hi just thought I'd do a quick update on my progress. It's been three months exactly since I came off dianette and so far no major problems. My periods are a bit unpredictable but seem to be settling down. My skin has started to get a few breakouts (again nothing horrible yet) and I'm terrified that this is the beginning of the horror story I experienced last year. Kinda feel like I'm living my life counting the days until I'll be too embarrased to leave the house! Just wondering if anyone found anything to help with the bad acne in withdrawal? I've been taking supplements for the past few months but just holding out for a miracle cure I guess!!
Thanks,
Laura

Hi Playcrack the sky,

I also felt fatigue and loss of appetite when I got off the pill. I never thought back then that it was from stopping the pill. I thought it was just me working too hard or something....but good for you srating to feel better:):)

Laura,
Good for you for getting to the three months mark. Another month to go, and you are home free. Never ever go on this pill again. It is so dangerous for all of us. I can't believe that the drug companies are able to sell this. It's a crime!! I am not sure what you could do for acne, but have you ever tried tretinoin cream? It is a retinoid and it works quite well. ask your derm about it.

Still same crap for me. Still lightly shedding and scalp itchy/ tingling . Almost 8 months of this hell!! I keep waiting for the end.

Thanks for replying DinDin. Sorry to hear the hair issues are still ongoing. Just goes to show how much this pill can mess with your system. When you say another month do you mean it takes four months for the pill to clear out of your system? I heard it was three. Just curious, wondering if I got it wrong. Good luck on the hair front and keep updating to tell us how you're getting on x x

HI Laura,

I think it takes about a year for you to have the pill off of your system. It is a very strong pill. In fact, Diane 35 is the higest hormonal pill out there. What I mean by another month to go is about the hair loss.

My hair only started to fall off 4 months after stopping. For most girls, it happens between 1 to 4 months after stopping. When you stop the pill, your body goes ito shock, even if you don't feel anything. The damage is done then, and then everything goes back to normal. Your body may even recover, but because the shock was initiated, it usually takes 3 to 4 months for the symptoms to appear, in that case, hair loss. The hair went into telogen phase when it recieved the shock, but it takes 3 to 4 months for it to actually come out and fall off. so basically, if 4 and a half months go by and you lost no hair, then you are home free. I wish you all the luck, and I hope that you wont have to go through this nightmare. Keep us updated on how you are doing. Also, do not go on Yasmine or Yaz birth control pills as well, because they are just as bad. I think there is an actual law suit going on right now about Yasmine. It's best not to go on any birth control at all, in my opinion. They are so bad for us.

I really wish you luck, and symptom free withdrawl,
Din

Hi,

I am 20 years old, I have been on dianette since I was 14 and I can say it hasn't affected me badly whatsoever. My hair is still thick as it always been and after suffering with acne before I was introduced to Dianette, it has totally cleared my skin up and my skin is beautiful and clear. Im not saying that I dont agree with some of the side affects that people have listed but I think other explanations should be found rather than just blaming Dianette i.e. such as hair loss....Constant hair dying and over styling can do this too...Think about it. My sister has been has been on it for a few years too and came off it for a while and conceived a beautiful, healthy baby boy who is now two years old. Anyway, I hope ive helped stop some people from worrying about Dianette :)

Hi Guest,

I am glad that you were on this pill for so long and that you fel good on it. However, do you know what kind of damage you may have internally? Do you know what the long term side effects this pill is giving you? As long as you are on it, you may feel great. I had no problems on it, other then some weight gain when I was on it. You may have side effects, you may not.. it all depends on your body, and the fact that your sister was on it and was ok, is great too. However, This pill is a very dangerous pill. It does do bad things to many women. You may be one of the lucky ones who didn't get affected, but then you will never know until you get off. Many women have suffered from this pill, and this thread is basically for them to share their experences. These horrible things DO HAPPEN because of Diane 35(Dianette). Women who are considering taking it, should read what we went through and then make up their mind if they want to take it or not. I am really happy for you that it worked for you. Good luck to you,
