NATO coalition losing in Afghanistan

Postby stonecastle » Thu Aug 12, 2010 11:49 am

The NATO coalition are losing the war in Afghanistan, both in Afghanistan itself and at home as the public lose faith in the war. In Afghanistan coalition forces are bogged down in Helmand province making little progress while resistance is increasing and has also spread into neighbouring Pakistan.
An interesting video of the London anti-Afghan war demo in 2009 outside Downing Street: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THKD6AF0fuo

U.S. GOvernment is straddling the fence on even being there. Its about politics right now and that is going to have a very predictable effect on the ground when they are driving so much of the operation.
I'm not sure how relevant a 2009 demonstration is now, but support for the war has certainly fallen in the U.S. as well.

george bush jt blew the war in Afghanistan by shifting attention and most soldiers to iraq................thank you shithead .

Also this President Karzai isn't much of a war leader either , heard that was the case in Viet Nam too................what can we do if our allies don't want to really fight ?

Some allies are bailing out of the fight

Many people don't see the need for the war since bin laden has moved on to Pakistan

Lucky us ..............

You know I hear that a lot but then I wonder why it hasn't been corrected. Its not like the opportunity was forever lost.
Obama and Clinton both campaigned on getting us out of Iraq quickly...but they didn't keep their promise. I'd say we're getting close to the point where its Obama's fault this isn't going well.
Even now, why don't we drop 150,000 troups and just steam roll them? I wonder if Obama even wants to win as long as he can pin the war on Bush politically. I'd think that if he wanted a different result than he has he's getting, he'd either get the heck out of there or go all in and end it.

Do think Obama wants out since it all loks hopeless & with binalden in Pakistan needless but is staying for politics ...............Don't think any Democrat wants to hand Republicans ammunition that they are soft on security .That wud fit in with Republican mumbo jumbo we'd won in Viet Nam but the liberals made us quit.

The army too wants to keep trying and he's giving them the chance BUT the army has to bring home some progress soon .

As a bartender heard more then one army guy from senior noncoms to field grades say the war in Iraq wud torpedo the war in Afghanistan so bush has to bear the main responsibility for the mess .

BTW no stockings today .......... barefoot for school and knee hi's at work

I'll take you any way I can get you.

If Obama is staying in for politics, he deserves to have it used against him.

I don't think the Republicans would get any momentum out of the 'we would have won it' argument. Most realize Bush is largely responsible for getting us into the mess and he had his opportunity to win it. The voting public isn't going to care that Dems controlled Congress - we saw that with the recession.
The longer this goes on Obama's share of the blaim burden only increases. With public support in a continuous decline he has two forces working against him.

As for the Army, they are acting within the parameters provided by the Commander & Cheif. Whenever a military leader proposes something differnent they get replaced. I'm not sure they can show anything until Obama lets them.

The army got several extra divisions it asked for .

Any informed person of either party knows bush blew it in Afghanistan but I can hear rush , old Liddy & laura all now saying how we had the taliban beat but Obama blew it with many out there falling for the lie .

Interesting to while the army wanted more men the US ambassador whose a retired army general says they weren't needed and the problem with with Karzai .

Am sure we are looking at years and years to come of trouble in Afghanistan & Pakistan

I predict that the NATO coalition will be forced to retreat from Afghanistan within just two years. The anti-war movement is one of the things that is helping to bring an end to that war. See this http://www.stopwar.org.uk

The U.S. has a Muslim President. The American troops are demoralized.
