What do you think of applications on Facebook?

I'm doing research. The topic is "Applications on Facebook".

What are your views/opinions on the matter?

Do you like/dislike applications?

What do you think of the game applications?

Are there any that you use regularly?

i my self do not use facebookj -- but--
the univ of Wisconsin ,computer science dept. has shown that they can be a very nasty security risk .
they posted a "fake" app -- for security testing ONLY -- and it spread like wild fire and retrieved a BUNCH of personal info on people

even AFTER it's name was released as a piece of "spy ware"( made by the "white hats" and not the "black hats" ) it was STILL ranked very popular for a few months .

i would NOT run any of them on a MS Windows computer

Many of the applications (in fact all of the ones that I've been invited to use) require you to give access to ALL of your profile information. If you are happy to share that in an uncontrolled way then go ahead; otherwise be very cautious. Similarly Facebook will locate friends for you if you grant access to your various address books and contact lists. Once more you think you might be in control, but how do you know?
Facebook can be fun and a good way to keep in contact, but like all computer activities, be very careful how you share you data. Remember that a loose e-mail could be world-wide in seconds.

I think most of the applications are an annoying waste of time that could be put to better use elsewhere in the real world - Farmville for example!

yea farmville might be crap but there are some great apps on facebook like splashcast, feedburner, collegehumor and stuff.

I am not using facebook currently and not like to use it because I do not like its features and services. Even it has to suffer from some issues also. It has a big problem of security and that is why mostly people do not like it that tI have heard that.

I find the aplications on facebook rather useless a the main idea of facebook is in the posting wat your up to and telling you friends how your feeling etc etc the aplications are useful if you want to burn some time though as there is plenty of quirky games to get addicted to and get your friends to get ingto also

Facebook is having really great applications I have not used all of them.

I never install applications. You never know if they're a virus or they're going to steal your personal information. Facebook recently punished (but did not completely ban) an application vendor who was stealing user information and selling it.

My bf told me to never never allow them. He says they rip off all your personal stuff and you don't know what happens to it.
