Hi just an update. Bayer Shering rang back and left a message on my answer phone to say that they will be posting a reply to me via e-mail, I think this will be tomorrow. I will let you know what they say. I am now 49 and since the age of 39 when this happened to me one minute they say I am peri-menopausal then they do more bloods and say I am post menopausal and then three years ago when I started to feel a bit better they did bloods and said "it is nothing short of a miracle I was producing estrogen again and they could not explain how or why". Obviously now I would not even bother with more bloods because I am now what I would consider the normal age for a normal menopause. However, I have lost 10 years of estrogen production thanks to Dianette. I was watching a Panorama programme tonight, I don't now whether or not you watched it. It was about the use of a drug for diabetics which is still being prescribed despite the fact that it was causing heart attacks and heart failure. There was a lady on called Fiona Godlee who belongs to BMJ group. She is trying to bring to attention the fact that the side affects of drugs are being ignored and profits are being put before patient safety.. I am going to contact her to high-light Dianette as one of these drugs. If you go to www.bbc.co.uk/panorama you could watch the programme. Keep in touch.

Hi Millie,

Thanks for the update. Please let me know what they said, it will be very interesting. i still don't have much hope for them though....they will never admit it is their fault.

I actually wanted to sue them when this happened to me but I know that they have so many in house lawyers and that for me, I would have to spend a lot of money and I will lose for sure. From what I hear, those who try to sue drug companies rarley get anywhere, unless of course their is wrongful death involved or something really really severe that one of their medication may have caused. The way I see it, we are the little people, and we have no say. They will continue to make drugs that harm people, but they will get away with it, because the government makes a lot of money from them as well.

No I haven't seen that program, but I will sure to click on the link you have provided.

so you still have hair loss today? How much hair do you lose while washing or combing?? And if it lasted for so long, shouldn't you be bald by now?? Does it just fall out lightly now? Maybe that is just normal shedding??

Thanks for the info Millie,
Din

Hi all,

I thought I would post on here as people who are thinking of going on (or coming off) dianette need to hear a balanced view, not just the view of one person who has had a particularly bad experience with dianette and feels the need to update the world on her progress and take over the forum almost (sorry dindin!!).

I've been on dianette for 8 years after having terrible problems with acne and then cystic acne in my teens. I am now 26 and me and my partner are considering trying for a baby in a few years so thought I would slowly wean myself off the stronger pills. For the 8 years I was on it I had virtually no problems (lack of sex drive being the only one..!!) - my periods, which used to last for 10 days and be very heavy and painful before, were relatively light and I only had mild problems with pain before they started.

I have been off dianette for 4 weeks now (waiting for my next period before I start femodene) and have been advised that it may take a while to start again but that is fine. My skin has started to get quite a bit more greasy and skin has deteriorated, but that's not really that unexpected to be honest!!

What people have to remember is that everyone is different and dianette can be a really really really good thing if, like me, you have/had severe acne that was, frankly, quite depressing and confidence-sapping! There may or may not be side effects when taking any kind of pill (whether that be contraception or other pill) and it all depends on you. People need to make a balanced judgement as to their preferences - it has been fantastic for me and despite the skin deterioration since I would happily recommend it to people, it helped me gain my confidence back and enjoy my early twenties much more than I would have had I been stressing about acne the entire time!!

Hope that's helped someone, just remember there are 2 sides to everything and you have to make an individual choice what you think is best for you - what dindin is describing is extremely severe and is NOT what happens to everyone...

Dear Guest,

That is great for you that you have not had any major side effects from coming off this pill. You have only been off for a month, Right? how do you know you wont experience side effects? They don't always show right away. I hope for your sake that you wont experience anything severe. I started to get hair loss 4 months after coming off.

And for your information, I do not have a NEED to update the world on my progress. In fact, I could save my self lots of time by not bothering at all. However, I know how COMMON a side effect hair loss is from coming off this pill. If you look at the products monogram, it clearly states that hair loss is a big possibility once you discontinue the medication. I wish I have seen that before taking it, otherwise I would have never even considered taking this bcp.

The reason I update here, is because I want other women who have this side effect to have a guide line as too what could happen and how I experienced it. each women is very different, just because I experienced something in one way, does not mean that others will, but believe me, when you are going through this... you would only then understand how important this is.

There are many many women who post in other forums about hair loss from Diane 35. It is so common!!!! If you did your research, you will find it too.

Again, I am glad that you are not experiencing anything severe, and hope that you wont. regardless, I will still post here monthly as I made a promise to myself and plan to follow it.

I was on dianette a for a couple of years and it worked realy well for me, i never had sever achney but quite a few spots round my chin a mouth and it really depressed me so went on dianette. the doctor pulled me off after a couple of years because of the health risks. I went on to cilest which was ok. i still got spots but not really bad. i came off that after a year because it gave me headaches. i still have spots probably about 5 at a time round my mouth and its depressing! i also have a few scars. im marrying next july and want nice skin so i am going to go back on diannet as i found it worked well for me. my only worry after reading all these horrible reviews is if i come off diannet after july(when i plan to start trying for a baby) is will my skin become worse then ever?
is there anyone like me that found diannette a really good pill that came off it but then went back on and it turnt horribly wrong.
i am hoping that as it worked well for me previously, that that means it will work well for me again? surely if the pill agrees with my body before it will agree again? anyone out there that has similar story to me? please comment

Ive been on Dianette for about a year now and its been totally fine for me, my acne and hirsutism has disappeared. Ive tried other medication they just didn't work for me, as some of the people described the symptoms on dianette I have had them with others like Marvelon or Yasmin.

Dianette has been a life saver for me its not allways the horror stories which are on this board, make sure you see your GP or if it something like ive had which was hirsutism maybe a Trichologist (a doctor in hair) Anyway www.hairtreatment4u.co.uk have been a life saver for me.

Just thought id share my story.

id just had a baby girl and boom angry red spots around my chin . id lost my confidence tryed every thing glycolic peels... md formulation products , facials , laser treaments to battle the scars the spots were leaving me with. Colnic irrigation, wheat grass, washed my face in bicarbonate of soda ... then i found Dianette within 2 months my skin looked amazing no pain, no high cost . Then the side effects kicked in around 6months in i became so emotional , feeling down , my relationship started to suffer , i was'nt my happy self my own vanity wasnt worth feeling this miserable. I also gain weight on my legs with tread veins to match then came out with a skin rash perioral dermatits which i thought was just more spots but was all side effects of this pill ...i have now come off Dianette with skin alot worse than when i started , if anyone finds something that works please let me know. Dianette messed me up big time! my heart goes out to everyone who knows how it feelsxx

I actually have the reverse problem. I was diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia (genetic hair loss) and had major scalp pain BEFORE using Diane 35 or any other medication. After a scalp biopsy I was told to try Diane 35 and rogaine. Both have helped to slow down hair loss, grow new hair and reduce the scalp pain. The side effects I've had from the pill is cellulite, stretch marks and a bit of skin pigmentation. I know that if I stop Diane the scalp pain and hair loss will come back because that's what I was dealing with before using Diane. It's hard to make a choice between hair and the side effects. I know its not a long term solution but Diane 35 has helped with genetic AGA and scalp pain which I think was caused by high androgens or low estrogen.

Palmie,

what kind of scalp pain did you experience prior to the pill? was it tightness of scalp, itchiness, burning???

How long did you have it for? Also...what did you genetic hair loss look like? did you lose a lot in the front?? Or the volume of your hair??

Thanks for any info,

Hi, prior to the pill at the same time I noticed a hair loss problem I developed a burning scalp. It also felt tight, hot, and sometimes red. I also had a bit of dandruff and sometimes developed a weird pimple on my scalp, even though I've never had acne on my face.

The hair loss seems to be all over. I don't have big sheds. I just seem to lose a few strands throughout the day and it doesn't seem to grow back. If it does it seems to grow back thinner, I think its called miniturisation which is part of AGA.

Thank you Palmi for answering back.

Sound liek you also have or had sebourheic dermatitis. If you use t-gel tar shapoo or nizoral, it would have helped with the itching and dandruff. have you ever tried that?? so you never really had a big shed, just some hair fall that doesn't grow back??

hi, i have just started taking dianette. only two weeks in. i am 22 years old. i have noticed a dramatic increase in hair loss in just the past two weeks. i think it is this pill, as when i normally loose hair when its the time of the year it is NO WAY near this much, i think i am loosing around 300-400 hairs a day. i am going to stop taking this pill from today, as i have read many horror stories. two weeks before i was taking the pill i was only loosing around 10-20 hairs a day, so therefore i do believe there is a definite connection with the pill and the hair loss.

i am taking it for PCOS. i haven't noticed a difference in my mood etc only the hair loss, that is more than enough for my to stop taking this pill! my hair is VERY thick, it has become noticeably thinner over the last two weeks. however there has been no balding etc just my overall hair is alot thinner.

i will keep you updated about what happens when i go of the pill, if my hair loss stops or continues.

has anyone else experienced a similar problem to mine? i mean i have only been taking the pill for about two weeks, from what i have read many people have been taking it for months and years and then are experiencing this problem.

thanks

Hi there,

just to let you know...Diannette is usually taken by women who have hair loss problems. It may or may not shed hairs in some women.
With this pill, either you will have a shed when you stop, or while taking it. Many women experience hair loss while starting Dianette. You should discontinue it as obviuosly it is not working for you.

You may experience hair loss even though stopping, but eventually it will stop, so don't worry...
