root = god
root is almighty
most long time linux users use one of the two " su" or " su -" commands to become root ( temporally ) and dislike sudo with a passion
but sudo ( and it's variants) let a NORMAL user do things as root WITHOUT NEEDING roots PASSWORD
can be used by IT to let one employe do "some" things that root can do without giving FULL root access to that employe
can be good for letting the kids install programs in ONLY certain places BUT not allow them FULL control over the computer
but it needs to be set up CORRECTLY otherwise it defeats the purpose

sudo on linux does ask you for a password for authentication?
