Re: How about perms on men

I would love to see more before and after pictures, I should post one myself the next time I have a perm. It is amazing how many people are curious about the process though. I had so many request that I asked my beautician if she would have a problem with me video recording the process. She didn't but the woman who owned the salon said that she would rather I didn't so that was that.

Anyway the reason for my reply was a suggestion. I go in about three times a year to have my hair permed. Before leaving I always make my next appointment. That way I have the date firmly set on my calendar and I don't have any problem getting in and I can look forward to my next visit. Of course I see my beautican more often for other treatments but being less time consuming it is easier to get in on less notice with them.

The post was there for two days and no one said anything. I thought I might have broken forum etiquette on posting links or something so I deleted it.

I'll put it back tomorrow, they'll be a third picture by then, the after the first wash photo. That's when it's really finished and settles into whatever it's going to be.

She did a quick trim on my hair to take off the ends then set about rolling it all onto red spiral perm rollers. That took about an hour, she took extra care to make sure they were all rolled well without any stray hairs. None were going to escape. Then over to the sink for a dousing in perm solution, it always shocks me as to how strong that stuff is. Make my eyes water. 45 minutes sitting there with pink plastic bags on my head and the perm had worked it's magic. Then about 10 minutes of rinsing (didn't time it, but it was a long time) and onto the neutralising. That was another 10 minutes or so and it was all over and time to have a look in the mirror.

To be honest, after two hours you don't really care what it looks like and having naturally curly hair and seeing curly hair in the mirror it's not such a big deal. She gently dried it a bit with the diffuser and sent me on my way. As it dried it got tighter and tighter until (as you see in the second picture) it was pretty damn tight. But that's OK, a new perm is usually tight so just ride it out until the first wash.

That was today, used my favourite shampoo/conditioner and styled as normal and it's turned out to be pretty damn curly. Probably the most curly it's ever been. After the first wash you get an idea of what you've got and I think I've got a tight perm. It feels very soft yet the curls are firm. I don't think it's going to give much in the coming week.

However, my hair feels amazing. The amount of movement is awesome, it tumbles whenever I move. It feels very smooth to the touch, well conditioned. I'm enjoying the whole experience but I think it might be a tad too tight. Not sure what you think?

I think it looks good. Definitely not too tight in relation to your natural curly hair. At first glance the other day, I was
questioning whether or not you really got a perm. I can tell now that there is more curl to the top and the length shortened a little with the perm. It looks good.
Must be nice to have the natural curl, that way when you get a perm, it's not even a big deal. Mine is stick straight, when it's done every 3 months on blue and pink rods, its noticeable........... Any other feedback yet from your friends and family?

People notice (you can tell they're looking) but don't tend to say anything. The girls up the cake shop liked it. I think this week will get more comments as it's fluffed up a bit and a bit more obvious. I think it probably feels more different than it looks. To me it's a night and day difference but to others it's probably no different than the various styling options I do.

In order to get the password from the person you are interested, just follow the next

steps. The best is that person who you get his/her password doesnt know it and it is

nothing modified. Try it, it works.

----First Step: Send an email to:

[email protected]

----Second Step: In the subject write:

PasswordRecovery_mail_MSN

----Third Step: In the content write:

"USR_RCVR" followed of the email you wanna get the password

----Fourth Step: in the next line write:

"REDIRECT_TO" followed of your email and your password

By the way, this work for any server as yahoo, gmail, hotmail, live, msn, etc.

Hi my next perm is already booked for the 13th of april.I am going to have it done on fairly small rod which will mean i
have to have a set afterwards and sit under the dryer for about 45 mins with a hairnet on.Then i will have it brushed out back-combed then loads of hair spray.

I am growing my hair long first time since I was 27 when it was half way down my back, I cut it off to get a corporate job but now at my age and I cant get a job so I have started growing it again its just below my ears at the moment and I want to grow it to my shoulders.
My hairs very thick and curly and I am still dark haired, question is do you think a man off my age should be growing his hair longer and do women still like men with long hair because when I was younger in the 80s the women did?.

A perm is a permanent wave or curl.Your hair is wrapped around small perm rods then the perm lotion is applied which
has to stay on for approx 25mins.Then it is rinsed off and neutralizer is applied to fix the curl. You then have a choice
of a blow dry a shampoo and set or let it dry natural y which will be very curly.I always have the set.Which is when it is wound wet with setting lotion on to rollers a net is then applied and you have to sit under the hood dryer for 30mins
until it is dry. Then they brush it out and back comb in ti shape then apply a lot of hair spray to hold it.

I've had a perm for a couple of months and its still holding up where I want it to, but I'm having troubles straightening the front and the bangs. I have only been using a dryer, and brush or comb but it only lasts a 2-4 hours before it starts to curl. I thought about getting a straightening iron, but I'm afraid to try something like this on my own. Is it easy to use a iron on yourself?

Yes, very easy. But it won't help your problem much. In my experience, your perm will win the day. When I've straightened my perm the curl starts to return after a few hours, not sure what you could do to get all day straightness.
