Hi there,
I've always had a thing with piercing my ears. When I was about 13 - that being in the late 70's - I pierced my left ear. When my parents found out - which was quite easy because a metal stud was sporting from my ear - I got this marvelous speech on stupidity, ridiculousness and more humiliating stuff, so I got rid of the earring immediately. So when I was studying on University, I had a lot of thoughts on piercing my ears again. At this time I actually wanted to have them both pierced. So I did, but then I was afraid of how the people around me would react. Having your ears pierced as a boy was either very alternative (and my friends were actually quite conservative) or considered rather tacky by a lot of people. I took the earring out again. Since then, I now and then cannot resist the urge of piercing my ears. I plunge the needle through and put in an earring, feel totally sexy for a while and take it out again... Bit strange, I must admit.
As it happens, I am a genuinely happy married guy. My wife and I are 19 years together and I am totally in love with her. However, I still have this interest in piercing. She never noticed that I do my ears once in a while. After doing so I cover this dead up with some kind of Chanel ointment... I know she is very much 'not fond of' earrings, especially on men. She herself has non-pierced ears as well. I like that too.
Other piercings always had my interest too. A short while ago I got myself a PA and since no one else can see it, there is no social issue and my wife really adores it. She says it looks sturdy and it feels even better than it looks. And then she adds that she likes it a hundred times more than when I would have gotten earrings instead: "That would really have been stupid". Damn, just when I finally set my mind on having my ears pierced with a more definitive status.
I cannot convince her with arguments like "You have your ears pierced, so..." and in my social surroundings pierced ears for men are quite unusual. I don't know any guy with pierced ears personally, and at the school that my children attend, there is just one father and only one boy with a pierced ear. In Holland (where I live) pierced ears for man have gone out of fashion and it is also considered not very chic to have them. On the other hand, since I am otherwise a rather refined person, I think I can pull it off.
To decide if it's all worth the trouble, I really would like to know whether getting your ears pierced does or doesn't kill the thrill of it. Or should I go through the predicament of having studs in my ears 24/7 for 6 weeks, so I will have the possibility to put them in and out whenever I like (and take them out whenever my wife likes) ?
Cheers.
