Postby pooky1981 » Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:40 pm

hi i'm really glad i found this site, just a shame i didn't look for it 3yrs ago :(
i had the implant fitted in july 08 after it was suggested by my bf's cousin, huge mistake, i've always suffered from mental health issues, an this "miracle" rod hasn't helped, about as much use as a chocolate teapot (thanks nan lol), anyway my depression has always been bad and after several yrs looking for a medication that worked i found one :D i got myself a job found a man that i would lay down my life for an then came the talk of starting a family, well we both decided we would wait, get to know each other properly and get our finances sorted, so i spoke to friends and family about different forms of contraceptive, the implant seemed the best, so i had it fitted, anyway almost 3 yrs later i have no job and my bf is now my carer, i've gained 3 stone, havent had a period in 2 yrs and am disgusted with the way my body looks, i use to be a bubbly lively person that would talk to anyone, now i'd more likely punch you if you asked for the time ( i know it sounds dramatic but its the truth) I'm having it removed tomorrow, and i don't care how much it hurts, the implant has ruined my life and now i'm taking it back.
Please don't get the implant if you have any form of mental health issue, it's not worth the pain physically or emotionally.

thanks for reading

Re: Implanon - side effects

Postby Guest » Wed Mar 02, 2011 11:58 am

Hi

I've been on implanon for 4 months now and I'm feeling some of the side effects listed- irregular and prolonged bleeding, mood swings (depression and ridiculous amounts of confusion!), some tenderness in the breasts which only just started. I've only just gone on this so surely I should give it a chance cos it takes a while to settle doesn't it? Has anyone found that after a while the symptoms died down or went away completely?
I'm going travelling in two months and went through a recent break up (before I went on the implant) so I don't want to attribute too much to the implant but after reading these all the posts I'm a little worried.

Re: Implanon - side effects

Postby mmm...beer » Fri Mar 04, 2011 3:31 pm

I've had mine for three weeks and I've already made an appointment to have the thing out - roll on the 14th. Within about 3 days of having it in my sex drive completely disappeared. I went from wanting sex 2-3 times a day to not wanting it at all. My boyfriend knows all of the tricks to turn me on but none of them work anymore and when we do have sex it's nowhere near as good for me as it used to be - I used to feel sorry for women who don't particularly like sex and now I am one of them. Since about day 3 of having it in I've also been constantly tired and have had a really low mood. On the up side I haven't had the period I was due this week.

The bloody thing has also started moving down my arm - the end is now about a centimeter from the insertion scar and it's started hurting again. At least that should make it easier to remove since my arm hasn't healed around it - if the nurse won't take it out for me I can probably do it myself.

I've found a government website where you can report suspected side effects of drugs - maybe if we all report our symptoms then they will start taking notice.

Oops - I cut and pasted the wrong thing into url code! One of my other symptoms is that I've become quite scatty and forgetful. Here it is:

Hmm. I'm obviously being very scatty today - I seem to have not managed to properly submit the post I was referring to above!

https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/ is a government website where you can submit any side effects you experience on a medication - maybe if enough of us submit our side effects then the government will take notice.

Apart from the forgetfulness and general scattiness, I've been exhausted since about three days after the implant went in. I've also had low mood and complete loss of libido. I'd be willing to wait out the other symptoms to see if they improve but the lack of libido is something I can't live with so I'm having it taken out. The thing has also started migrating down my arm. It started hurting again 4-5 days ago and I noticed last night that the end of it was about a centimeter past the insertion point. I've got an appointment to have it out Monday week but I'm going to call all of the family planning clinics near me on Monday to see if any of them will take it out earlier.

I had the implanon put in last june and did not like it at ask within the first two months I had it. I had really bad stomach pains which I never had before the implant and then I would constantly bleed it was light but it was non stop. I went to my gyno and she did an ultra sound and found multiple cysts on both ovaries. She took it out immediately and put me on the pill. I have not had any stomach pains since now I'm just waiting to go back and get another ultrasound to see if they are gone. I really want to have kids and I pray that this does not affect that.

I've had the implant for 2 and a half years now, but am really shocked reading about these side effects as i havn't experienced anything too bad! In the first few months i gained some weight but not much, had mild mood swings- and thats about it. I havn't had a period the whole time i've had the implant except for the first month it lasted for 2 weeks, i also found that the side effects balanced out as time went on i lost weight and don't experience mood swings anymore. It's great not having to think about taking a pill and most of all no periods! I am a bit worried now though after reading about possible infertility after it has been taken out. Think i'll have it removed when it reaches 3 years.

Hiya glad to have found this site made me question a few things.
Since having had the implanon inserted may 2010, The nurse that inserted my implanon was nt the nicest of ladies and was in a really bad mood jst what you need, then ended up with an infection in my arm so was put on antibiotics to calm the swelling down, 6 months later went to the docs and he refused to take it out. Ive gained 2 and half stone thou the doctor says this is normal! Then recently been diagnosed with polystic ovaries. Im tearing my hair out just feels like since having implanon all this has happend :(. Going to have it removed soon when I see the nurse I will demand it. My moods are really low aswell never know what to do for the best, The weight as made me feel S*** 2 as I go to the gym 3 times a week so its nt like im sat on my fat arse all day! I was 10stone 9 when had implanon inserted and am now 13stone.

Id advise no one to have it in as its aload of shite!!!! messes with hormones and personally I would never have the thin again.

I had mine out 9 days ago at a walk in family planning clinic. I was expecting to have to fight to have it taken out having read about other people's experiences but it was no problem at all. I arrived at the clinic half an hour before it opened because I wanted to make sure I was first in the queue and they had the thing out and my arm all bandaged up before the clinic was even supposed to open. I think it did help my case that it was moving down my arm ( the removal scar is about an inch below the insertion scar) but I got the impression that they'd have taken it out anyway since it was obviously affecting my mental health. I'm happy to report that I started feeling pretty much myself again after 2-3 days.

anonamoussssssss if you really want the thing out as soon as possible then do try your local family planning clinics. This website http://www.fpa.org.uk/helpandadvice/findaclinic will let you search for family planning clinics in your area. I just rang all of the ones in my area until I found one that took them out at their walk in clinic.

Ive been searching the internet for ages trying to find something like this, Nice to know there are other people out there.
Unlike many on here, ive only had my implanon in for three weeks and its already scaring me.
Ive had a slight bleed for a few days which wasnt too bad, but from the day after i had the implanon fitted, my mood swings have been horrendous. One minute im like a crazed psycho spawn of satan and the next im blubbing my eyes out. Cant control my moods and its already starting to strain my relationship with my boyfriend, not even mentioning the fact that my sex drive seems to have vanished and i seem to want to eat everything in sight so my weight is going up.
Has anyone seen their doctor about anything similar? My doc asked me to go back after 6 weeks and keep a record of bleeding etc and if that was bad then she could give me tablets, but im scared that if i keep going on like this with my moods, my relationship will be over and the implanon will have been a total waste of time.

I need some advice...

I've been on the pill for about 4 yrs now and i'm thinking about having the implant. I've been reading post and information about it and one minute people are saying how good it is and others are saying its really bad.

I suffer from migraines anyway and think the pill is making it worse. And i think the pill has gave me really bad mood swings, and gives me bad depression. And its gets a bit annoying having to keep remembering to take it, had a few slips up before but lucky no pregnancies.

I have a new bf now and we don't want kids till a few years down the line. I don't really know who to talk to...

Cud someone give me a bit of advice plz

I had the side effects (prolonged bleeding and horrible moods) when taking the pill (progestogen only - cerazette). I was constantly told, it will settle, but it didn't, so I went on an Implanon.

It's been 2.5 years now and my periods last for weeks, sometimes a month or so. I feel stupid now, that I didn't have it removed long time ago. It's horrible, the bleeding seems to never stop or it stops after 2-3 weeks and after one day it comes back again.

I will have it removed now, as I don't want to destroy my body any further, I am just afraid of how long it will have to settle now.

I also feel like my sex drive had gone down and actually put on a little weight and cannot go down, even when I started excercise (never been to gym before!) but it doesn't help. I really don't know if it's a side effect from the hormones or not. But I rather have it removed and see than wait for something that never happens!

GIRLS, don't get an Implanon (or the new version of it)! Doctors will tell you all about how great it is, but listen to the ones who have actually experienced it :-)

I thought exactly the same way. I've had a few migraines when having an implant in. Don't know if it's related though.

Pills also gave me mood swings, but the implanon also does. We get into big arguments with my bf, but here either, I can't say if it's caused by the implant. (defo it is linked to long periods)

One thing it really kills me is really long period times and as I said this is very likely the reason of my moods.

My advice is - don't get a an implant, even if you think it's so great. When some people say it's great, there's so many complaining and wishing they never had it! Be wiser than us - you will surely avoid a lot of problems. :-)

Hope it helps
