Divorced now shunned by friends

Postby oldelsie » Tue May 31, 2011 9:09 pm

A recently divorced lady(51) I know is now shunned by her friends.
No longer invited to parties etc not really welcome to their homes.
Before divorce things were fine, all her friends were supportive.
She now feels that her friends view her as single & a threat to the stability of there relationships.
She does say that she used to get on fine with their partners etc.
She’s still very much a head turner,is that the problem, threat etc.
Any insight would be helpful.

They're obviously not real friends and she is better off without the two-faced folk.

Perhaps it is worth using this divorce as a new start all round.
I like to tell people I have the heart of a small boy. Then I say it's in a jar on my desk.

Thanks I think you are right she has to move forward & forget the past.

Not uncommon in divorces /break ups for one partner to get the friends .

Only adds to the sadness of it all.

you may have kinda summed it up in saying she`s still very attractive, (head turner), but as has also been said, it seems that her so called "friends" werent hers in the 1st instance, more her partners, but against that you can throw maybe her ex bad mouthed her, painted her in a bad light etc, bad break-ups can bring out the worst in people.
best of luck to her, if she`s still a head-turner and at 51 is still young headed then i doubt she`d be single too long.

It is normal to feel austrasized or rejected by associates and friends after a major life change. It even happens when there is a death in the family or any other life change. People don't know what to say or how to act, so they avoid the person all together.

One couple asked me what to do, they were friends with both of us and what should they do now that we were divorced. I told them they could still be friends with both of us.

Yes is does happen that one partner will bad mouth the other. It isn't right because it takes two to get along in a relationship.

See, I think that has hit the nail right on the head.
