Hi Beth,

Aw thanks. I hope so too! Will definitely let you know how I get on.

That's terrible they didn't just remove it when you asked - it's your choice! At least I just asked and they removed it. Yeh they seem to want to get people to stick it out for a while - probably due to costs!
Good luck for fri and ask all the questions you can! When you had your implant removed did they acknowledge the different side effects ie mood swings, emotion imbalance, weight changes ect? I said to the nurse but he was quick to dismiss it and ask if something else was maybe going on in my life!!

I agree with you there doesn't seem to be enough publication of all the possible side effects! There are definitely large numbers of women being affected! You just have to read these forums an many others. I only know one other girl with the implant she says shes's ok on although she does admit to mood swings ect but doesn't know if it's just her.
There just seems to be too many similar stories for it all to be a coincidence. If I could go back and change my mind I wouldn't have got it its ruined too much :(

Let me know how you get on

I also have the implant, ive been told by a lot of people that it has stopped their periods all together and i hoped it would do the same for me (i'm aware of the statistics) but i've recently got my period. I'm going on holiday to spain on friday and have been advised to take my pill through the holiday to stop my period, but i was wondering if my periods could still stop all together despite the fact that i have already got one? could i still not have any all together later on? i only had the implant inserted 3-4 weeks ago.

Thanks x

hiya i need to ask a question i'll explain tho first.
i had an implant put in after i had my little boy in 2008. i had no side effects and felt fine. however in april i had it taken out after the three years were up and had it replaced. it took over an hour for the nurse to get it out, as it was imbedded into my arm, and another half hour to put the new one in. since ive been really tired and had alot of cramps and really heavy, near enough continuous bleeding. i went back to my doctor who told me it had nothing to do with the implant, so ive had blood tests, swobs and scans done, nothings been detected. however at the weekend i felt my implant and noticed a big dip in the middle, when i squezzed the ends together the part were it dipped moved up as if it was broken and snapped. i went to the doctor on monday who made me have an xray, where it turned out broken. the doctor has told me that the implant will still be working properly and that i'll be fine. but surely it'll be leaking into my body and this is what could be making me have the symptoms ive been having. the doctor has yet to get back in contact with me. please help x

Hey all,

Don't listen to everyones comments.
The people that want to go _ to talk about it are the ones that had crappy expierences.
I LOVE MY iMPLANON!
I've had it for about 3 months and it's perfect.
I have had dark brown spotting since i got it but nothing major at all.
No mood swings, still have an awesome sex drive.
It's amazing.
I would recommend this to anyone.
All of my friends go it and they love it too!

Re: Implanon - early menopause

Postby Guest » Sun Aug 14, 2011 3:06 pm

Following on from Beth's post, I related straightaway to her problems. I am now on HRT for early menopause (I'm nearly 42). Had Implanon out nearly a year ago, no periods since having it removed and had 3 blood tests since removal that show my oestrogen levels as next to nothing and FSH levels sky high. The only conclusion GP came to was early menopause. It seems too coincidental that it's not linked to Implanon. I've always had extremely regular periods, two completely normal pregnancies with no difficulties conceiving and no family history of early menopause. I can't find any links to Implanon and early menopause but it does make me wonder if if messes around with your hormone levels so much, there's no going back!

Watch if you use Implanon and then have it out to try for a baby. I think it could take years to get fertility back to normal, even if you were fine before it.

All very weird.....

hi all..
i got the implant in january of this year (2011) and for the first 5-6 months everything was smooth sailing regular, light period every month up until june. since then i have bled constantly which is now tallying a total of 8 weeks, i went to see my local GP and she gave me some tablets to relieve me of the nightmare i was facing and to my surprise it worked. until i came off the tablets and roughly 3 days later i started to bleed again and was experiencing pain like no other. i have also just found out i have a number of cysts on my cervix and am being sent for laparoscopic surgery and im not going to lie but im scared!! can any if this lead to infertility as my dream is to be a mother one day?
please help ha..

many thanks! xxx

Hi all, I had my implanon removed almost 2months ago it was just coming up to the three years since I had it inserted when i went to the doctors complaining of severe headaches.
I had been to the doctors many times over the past few years about my headaches but this time i saw a Dr who was new to the practice. She looked back over my medical history and found I first started to complain just after I had implanon. She went over a few other things in my history like tiredness, weight gain and put with the fact that my periods were irregular heavy, painful and could last up to 6 weeks at a time she could not understand why my previous gp had not suggested i have it removed.
I had gone from a size 8 when i had my implanon put in to a size 18 and was too tired to do anything icluding exercise to lose some of the weight I had gained.
I had lost my sex drive majorly but hadnt linked it to the implant, I used to have a very high sex drive but hadnt thought this tiny stick in my arm could change things like that.

I had my implanon removed on 1st of July, it was easy, pain free except for a tiny little scratch from the anaesthetic needle and quick to be removed. nothing like the horror stories I had heard from other people I know. I had a period 4 days later that lasted only a few days I then had another 26 days later, so far things seem back to normal. My sex drive has gone back to how it was before, infact it seems to be all i can think about,I dont think my boyfriend can believe his luck  We not taking precautions with the thought that we dont want to feel the pressure in trying for our 2nd child but if it happens we would be really pleased. I really do hope that what people are saying about fertility wont apply to me. Has anyone managed to get pregnant soon after having implanon removed??
My energy levels have improved but my moodswings and headaches are still present, I have also had a little boob leakage  I asked the doc about this who informed me that this can be normal as my hormone levels are still finding a normal balance. Anyone else had the boob problem?
My advice to anyone thinking of gettin the implant would be dont and to anyone who has it get it removed and find another form of contraception, I used to have the patch which was good, I wish i had kept using it instead of ever getting Implanon.

Hi

I had my implant fitted about a year and a half ago, i have put on some weight but not to much to worry about but for the last 6 months i have been feeling really depressed, dizzy, no sex drive at all and just generally not myself at all. I have been to the doctors a number of times and have asked if they this it can be due to the implant and they just say no! thank god i have found this site as everything i have read just seems to have come clear that it most probably is the implant making me feel like this.

I am having it removed next week and i cant wait!

Once having the implant removed has anyone felt a much better improvement?

Thanks

Lauren

Hi Lauren,

Hope you have had your implant removed ok. I had mine removed just over a month ago and I feel so much better already!
My skin has cleared up, I feel so much calmer and dont have irrational outbursts like I did before! I am so much more awake than I was before, I used to be constantly tired and crabbit. I also seems like my IBS has just disappeared as well and I suffered badly from it before.
On thinking about it I experienced some dizzyness as well when I had the implant and haven't had any since although it's still early days so I'm keeping an eye on it all.
I hope you are feeling alot better, you should notice alot of improvment over the coming weeks Im sure :)

I said to the nurse about how I had been feelin on the implant but they just dismissed it!!

Hi

Thank you for responding to my post, unfortunately I havent had my implant taken out yet I am having to wait until 6th September As I have to wait for an appointment and a well woman clinic and my doctors will not remove the bloody thing!

I am so pleased to hear that you are feeling better, I just hope that it does the same for me. I honestly think it will make such a difference. I have jut had enough of the anxiety attacks, dizziness and the constant feeling of being knackered. I am just feeling happier about the thought of having it out. I will post an update to let you know how I get on after.

How long did it take to feel any good changes?

Thanks Lauren

Hi Lauren,

That's rubbish you have to wait but at least its not long you have to wait. The doctors should have removed it for you.

I'm sure you will feel better too once its removed, fingers crossed :)
I have had it out just over a month now and I do feel loads better. I'm not saying I'm 100% but I definitely feel less anxious and less stressed about the stupidest of things! I would say I panic alot less about things that caused me major panic before so I definitely think its related to the implant.

With regards to feeling tired/energy levels - I can get less sleep than I did before and feel like I have a lot more energy than I did when I was on the implant! Before I used to stress out when I didn't get 8 hours sleep or more and still feel crabit anyway! But now I can have less sleep and feel alot more awake! Another definite link.
I think after a few days/ a week I felt loads better. Just kind of knowing what was making me feel so awful and that it wasnt just me was a huge sense of relief and then getting it removed made me feel alot better in myself too.

Good luck and let me know how you get on :)

i wrote a little while ago that my implant was broken. :? i had it taken out over a week ago and it was snapped in two. the doctor said that the doctor who put it in must of broken it while putting it in. like everyone else i feel so much better im not grumpy, not tired and no bleeding. the implant sounded a good idea at first but i would never reconmend it to anyone now. it makes you a totally different person but now i feel the best ive ever felt before. to anyone wantin an implant please please dont rush into it.xxx

The implant is ruining my life, as drastic as it sounds it realy is true, my mood swings are AWFUL causing me to feel the lowest i ever haven and iv only had it in 2 months! i had been bleeding everyday and so was given a pill to stop it which although has helped to calm it down i still expeirence crippling period pains. I often become very dizzy finding myself having to sit down untill it stops, i also have a constant head ache. I have always had fantastic skin but i now look as if i am suffering with accney. My weight gain is a shocker too, i am a slim girl and have found all the weight has gone to my belly making me look pregnant (which i am not) i am outraged and will be geting mine out asap. This is my second attempt and its having such an effect on my life i would advise any one to NOT GET THE IMPLANT!! i would not want anyone to have this rubbish!

My first attempted the implant became infected due to being put in wrong and after 2 months i decided it was time to get it checked out because i was sure it wasnt just not healing properly, when i attempted to show the fpc doctor i was told she would not look at it as it has not been long enough and so i left it for another month and when i returnd to the same woman forcing her too look it she confirmed that it did need to be taken out and did so, SOO much puss and blood came out, this was well over 2 years ago and i still have a scar that looks like its just been put in.

However, this did not put me off as i accepted it was very rare and so tried again after the 2 years and a doctor advising it... i am NOT happy but worrying about weather they will take it out.

Hi,

this board really is a godsend!!!

I had heard a couple of horror stories about Implanon but mostly saying that the first year was fine but watch out once you hit that first anniversary...! I've been on various pills for around 6 years for contraception and also to help my acne....when i first started i had no side effects whatsoever ( Dianette) but then was put on a couple of others which hugely affected my weight and my mood.

after a few years of trying various things I decided to go for the implant.... first year has been bliss, no bleeding, no pain, no mood swings.... or so I thought.... I havent had much of a sex drive but then thats never been something that I've really had....looking through the posts on here I think maybe now I know why! Implanon didn't affect my weight, I actually managed to lose 1.5 stone through excercise, which now I've reduced it, is creeping back on haha.... ANYWAY....now, coming into the 2nd year I have noticed a change in my mood, and in the last few days my body has started trying to have a period, and now, after reading all the posts on here I am wondering about it's effects on my seemingly non-existant sex drive.

as well as that my mum suffered PCOS so this maybe isnt a wise move for me.... I think Im going to see my doctor about getting the implant removed next week...

thanks for all the info ladies :)
